Not to be confused with the March savings challenge! This is to share ideas for paying back debts and to motivate and encourage eachother. We seem to have had a good month in February so lets keep it up!!
 
Argh! Now have to find £800 for our Malta trip because i invited the MIL as i know she is very down and lonely still since she lost her husband, but it's gone from thinking and dreaming about, to actually doing and finding the money! Anyone wanna rob a bank with me lol ;)

I got martins money saving tips email this morning. It's got some brilliant deals on balance transfers for those of you trying to pay off credit cards. Barclays is 30 months interest free and nationwide is 26 months interest free. The nationwide one has a really low fee of 0.75% to transfer a balance. Think the Barclays fee is 2.99%.

Worth bearing in mind that purchases will not be interest free though so I would recommend transferring your balance but not keeping the card in your purse so you don't get tempted to spend on it!

Think I'll be doing this as my interest free period end this summer - may as well jump a little early and lock in 2 years of interest free! This period could also be a target to paying it all off as well!?
 
That's a good plan Sparty :) we did that a while ago, just remember to ask them what the fee is in actual money as that won't be interest free and we got a bit buggered the first month as didn't pay enough to cover it, so got a bit of interest the second month until we paid the next payment x
 
I'm going to talk to bf about it tonight and see what he thinks. I'm trying to involve him more in finance decisions as it takes the pressure off me and hopefully makes him understand a bit better why I'm stressed out sometimes.
 
At work I regularly go on moneyfacts.co.uk for research & tend to stick to just a few tabs, but today I had to do something different & noticed they have a voucher tab, wow you've got to check it out, it's brill, I'm thinking I'll take advantage of the body shop offer, spend £30 & get £10 off:eek: When I get a mo I'm going to have more of a look at the voucher section.

How's everyone doing so far this month?

Exactly, when my boss didn't pay me in Jan it sort of helped as I couldn't spend, I am even more careful now with spending, it has also helped me setting up little pots for birthdays & car stuff, it is a long term plan really & something which needs constant attention.
 
I think we are managing ok this month. Our plan was £200 off cc and £200 off overdraft but the cc company have mucked us up a bit by reducing the min payment because I overpaid last month and we didn't realise til later in the month - I like to pay ASAP so we don't spend the money. But overdraft is looking ok and we have spent less on food than last month so far.

Not really progressing with savings but our debts are my priority at the moment so I'm ok with that.

Feels like I'm finally getting some good financial habits and routines although I will check out that website suggested earlier (by happy I think) to see if it is helpful.
 
Doing ok, not great. Paid off overdraft (again :sigh: and paid a chunk to hubby's friend for the drums but that's all.
Going to be eating down the freezer this month as he has a week off and hope to use some of the shopping money for some days out.

Hello all! This thread had been a bit quiet this month. It's been a long one eh!? How did everyone get on in the end!?

We struggled quite frankly. Bf's wages were really late so we had to use the credit card for a couple of things. It hasn't been used since November so we did well not using it and now I feel a bit like we have undone all that hard work. Not pleased
But we didn't have a choice really.

Now that his wages have appeared we have managed to pay back some of the overdraft however which is good. I need to double check my sums but I think we ended up paying back between £200-£300. I'm really pleased with that as it will help keep us on track this month.

I also switched our smaller credit card to nationwide who have a 0% balance transfer offer for 26 months. Our plan now is to just leave that alone, pay the minimum and let it pay off over the 26 months and then it will be gone. As for our bigger one (which we have been concentrating on), this is where any extra money will go to bring it down further. This one needs switching in August when the interest free on that runs out.

Hope you are all plodding on ok. Has anyone done an April thread yet?
