Pregnancy and Slimming World

Honeyoc

Is a crunchy mama!
Starting a thread for Starlight to sticky. I thought it would be a good idea to have an area for moms-to-be so we can support each other as we go through pregnancy whilst staying on plan on SW! It would be great to hear ideas on SW friendly ways to deal with nausea and cravings and also trying to ensure that we're eating a wide variety of healthy food to keep us and our babies strong! So here's to being preggers and achieving success on our SW journey!

Honey that sounds like a fantastic idea - I would really benefit from support from other pregnant slimming world members and in turn support them too. I'm determined that I will continue with my weightloss despite my pregnancy and be at least 3 stone lighter by the time baby no 7 arrives :eek:

How good would we all feel if we managed to keep on track, have a healthy pregnancy and have the added bonus of still seeing the pounds melt away even though it will probably be at a slower rate.

My consultant said that in reality they don't want pregnant ladies to aim to lose weight during their pregnancy but more to stay in control and limit their weight gain - I myself know that if I food optimise properly I will be able to continue losing pounds - a pound a week would be great to aim for. Saying that in reality I dont know how it works, never having followed slimming world during a pregnancy, infact never having even followed a healthy eating plan while pregnant - I've always used pregnancy as the normal excuse to eat for 2 or actually 3 in my case lol.

Here's to healthy pregancies and fat bouncing babies!!

Well done for your determination Alia!! I read in an article that you're not meant to gain any weight in your first trimester anyway. So I'm hoping to lose a little bit in my first trimester, maybe 5lbs - 7lbs and then gain modestly from then on. I also read that at 24 weeks your baby can taste what you eat and develop a liking for it (or is at least familiar with it) so if you eat tons of choc you'll have a baby wanting the same but if you eat lots of fruit and other healthy food that's what your child will crave. I hope it's true because I've been eating lots of fruit and hope to continue!

Jericebenton yes we do have to pay and get weighed every week like everybody else. Seems a bit unfair paying to attend a slimming club and watching the scales go up and up LOL!

Honey have you noticed we are only a day apart in our pregnancies - there is deffinately a baby boom going on because I've got another friend who has just found out she is pregnant and she is due on the same day as me. I would love for the first time since baby no 1, to go full term and be with you till the end but I'll have to have my baby at 3 weeks early at the latest due to have sections every time.

Yes I noticed! :D I'm almost 100% sure that this baby was conceived on m birthday hee hee...
I'll have to have a C-section as well because I had a myomectomy 2 years ago to remove a fibroid. Apparently it was the size of a 16 week pregnancy  so if I try to have a natural birth I may rupture my uterus :(

ooooh so we may still have our bundles of joy within days of each other

Nothing SW related but just wanted to say don't forget to sign up to the baby clubs & get freebies, like sample creams/nappies etc & if you sign up to Boots you get a free changing bag...

Ooooh really???? Thanks for letting us know, I had no idea!!

Can I join please? Am 11 + 3 and currently still in the sicky nausea stage, I currently am having problems eating fruit, veg, dairy and pasta and can't remember the last time I stuck to SW. Hopefully this will pass in the next few weeks and I can get back on it (hubby can't wait, can't remember the last time I cooked!) Think I have put on 2lb max so fingers crossed, it can start going back the other way once I go back to food optimising.

Honeyoc - at my first midwife appointment I was given the bounty pack and there are loads of leaflets and clubs to join and I'm sure it's pampers or tesco that do a baby changing box thing! Will be signing up for everything next month I think!

Yeah I've just signed up for the boot's parenting club, you get a free changing bag when u buy a pack of nappies, looks really nice, will let you know when I get mine

yeah try sainsburys/tescos/cow & gate, atpimal etc just google seach baby club freebies (i think)

They just give u some nice little sample things 4 mum & baby x

I was really sick early on..I drank ginger tea & ate small amounts often. I'm 26+2 & getting bigger now..trying 2 stick 2 sw but if I fancy something don't deprive myself although with in reason.

hi great idea - im 19+5 20 week scan tomorrow- find out sex i hope - i have to have section too at 39 weeks so im thinking 19th 23rd or 26th of nov since thats the planned section days around 39 weeks - idid s/w throught out my 2nd pregancy which i started at 13st 9lb after i had her i was 11st 6lb - i lost weight on scales up till 22 weeeks then i did loose it slightly after that cs could not see the loses!! but obvioulsy not too much cos still ended up 2st lighter at end - this time i went back to group at 17 weeks and have had my 3rd weigh in i have only lost 2.5lb in total maintaining on my 3rd weigh in so assume im now putting on that 1lb a week of baby weight since im nearlly 20 weeks - so im assuming in theory im still loosing if i am maintaining iygwim - im going to try not to get too disheartened if the scales do not go down - i hope it will show at the end - i guess inevitably at the end we will start to gain ne way

Oh wow so there's a whole world of freebies out there for moms!!! LOL!

Laws1980 it's so encouraging to hear that you lost so much weight while you were pregnant! I must admit I've been finding things a bit difficult because when I'm hungry I feel soooo nauseous and dizzy, and fruit makes me feel worse (go figure...) Today the only thing that made me feel better were M&S pretzels, I ate about a quarter of a big bag and now I feel like I've blown it. It's hard finding the balance between feeding your body with what it takes to feel better and making sure it's healthy. I've gone off meat and veggies for the most part too :( I'm just hoping it doesn't last much longer so I can get into SW proper and get back to enjoying all the foods I used to enjoy.

Good luck with your scan! What sex are you hoping for?s

have a boy and girl already so as long as its fit and healthy we dont really mind we think its a girl although a boy would of been good as 1 more girl means a netball team in the family with just our little boy as referee lol.
i really got back on track after 12 weeks - prior to that i felt much like you although i wasnt sick this time ( surprisingly) was horrendously exhasuted with some nausea and really only felt like snacking ( mainly on junk grrr) i hoping i am now totally focused now - infact i managed to totally food optimise when i went away for 4 days to centre parcs last week a good achievement i say when u are on holiday

I've not felt sick once yet - kind of worries me a bit as with all my pregnancies I've had sickness, major sickness but when I had my miscarriage in March I didn't feel sick once either and I read that the more sick you feel the stronger the pregnancy as it's the pregnancy hormones that make you nauseous :sigh::sigh::sigh:

I've not gone off any food either, eating just the same on my SW plan although I have upped my fruit and veg intake.

I'm secretly hoping for a little pink bundle this time round, I've got 4 boys and 2 girls and it would be nice to even up the bunch a little bit, plus I had 4 boys in a 5 boys in a row so it's been a long while since we had pink around here :p:p:p

I'm not a patient person at all and I can't be waiting till 20 weeks to find out the sex so I have blood tests done and they can tell you the sex from 7 weeks after conception. Only problem is, that it does n't work if you are having twins :(

I've got my first midwife appointment on Thursday and I usually get an early scan around 9 weeks to count how many bundles there are, I'm so hoping for 1, its so much easier to enjoy and spoil one baby than 2. Fingers crossed anyway.

Honey do you have any prefrences for what you have?

Oh I didn't know you could find out the sex of a baby that early! DH would be beside himself with excitement if we had a boy for him to play cricket with lol. I'd like both though so one of each in any order would be fine by me!!
