Extra Easy 20 syns per day?

Hi lovelies,

I weigh 18 stone 5lbs and my Slimming Consultant has advised me to have 20 syns per day and to reduce to 15 syns per day once I get to 16 stone.

Has anyone heard of this before? xxx

Consultants have the discretion to give you more syns if you have a lot to lose but it's not common and not consistently used. When I started I weighed exactly the same as you but didn't get any extra syns. To be honest I don't really understand the reasoning behind letting you eat more 'naughty' food when you have more to lose. Surely they should be encouraging you to eat more free and superfree food. I would be tempted just to go with the standard 15 syns a day but it's up to you :)

When I did WW they used to give you more 'points' the bigger you were I'm sure there is a method in the madness but I used to dread going down a stone bracket as I has less food lol

When i started, my consultant said she generally judges it by 1syn for every stone you are. I weighed 16st 4lbs when i started but i still keep myself to 15 max.

There is sense in that though because you need to eat more calories the bigger the are. So in WW where the majority of foods are pointed you need more points to take in more calories. But on SW you have all the free foods at your disposal so I don't get why they would let you eat more chocolate (or whatever your syn of choice is lol)

I think its a good idea as if you are bigger perhaps you are used to calorie laden foods so helps make then change to healthier eating easier and more likely to stick

It makes sense. But when i first did it was was 17 stone 8 and never had extra syns, stuck to the 15.

I think maybe shes done it because when you loseweight, your weight loss may slow down so then you could go back to 15syns a day to kick start it again. Maybe? I dont know.

I wd 19 stone when I started and I was also told by my consultant to have up to 20, its not something your consultant has decided its a directive from sw head office that the consultants pass on to us. I don't often have the 20 but sometimes its nice to have the flexibility and its never slowed my weightloss! I lost 3 stone in 3 months and I'm now 16 stone 6 and I'm pregnant so the 20 syns are coming in handy for now lol

My consultant explained that if I go to 15 syns a day straight off it would be like a cut throat experience and an extra 5 syns a day would only be an extra 100 calories a day, therefore an extra 700 calories each week.

My consultant said if I allow myself UP TO (i suppose they are the defining words) you have set yourself a higher limit than normal and won't feel so crappy of you have 17 syns on one day, and I don't have to use them all. I just have an upper limit set to keep me on track, she thinks this will make the difference between staying on plan and not feeling restricted and giving up and bingeing.

I know there are plenty of super free and free foods to stop you feeling restricted but sometimes there is nothing like a controlled amount of naughtiness :)

It's nice to hear that this is a directive from SW head office.

Well done on your weight loss and congratulations on the pregnancy, I hope all goes well hun.

It may be a directive but clearly not all consultants follow it (why am I not surprised?!). And I still don't agree with the (il)logic of it but that's JMHO :)

I know some consultants arent telling their pregnant members to increase their A's and B's - that pees me off as its not been added for fun its so your getting enough calcium fibre and vitamins to support the baby growing inside!

I think the 20 syns idea is a good idea but it needs to be used as an optional not in a YOU HAVE TO kind of way. I would say before my pregnancy i only had 20 syns once a week and i could still lose 4 or 5 lbs in a week so i dont think it does any harm to a larger persons weight loss and I also think it helps becuase being a bigger person you obviously ate more to get to your size and to maintain it so for some people dropping to 15 syns a day would make them feel really deprived so at least by having 20 syns it keeps that person following plan and not falling off the wagon and giving up - even if they only do it once a week!

For some people going over their syns one day out of a week is enough to ruin the entire week, at least by having this option it keeps people on track better.

But i respect your opinion aswell :)

what i think is really badly done by head office is superspeed and superfree because if i have to sit in class and listen to my consultant explain the difference to the slightly slower members of our class again I may just murder someone!

Why couldnt they give them a name that was a little less similar so that people didnt get so blummin confused!!! :grumble:

Thank you :D

My consultant is also our area manager so she is excellent, we got to know everything immediately and were quite often the testers for new hi fi bars :giggle:

She also keeps bullying me to be a consultant because she has new groups she wants to open in the area - so i told her that if she lends me the £2000 you need to open 4 groups then I will be her new consultant in a flash lol!

If you know who they are I'd report them to HO!

It's because Speedy and Superspeedy existed before "SuperFree" was even invented, when we just had Green and Red days. There was no "Extra Easy" and you didn't have to panic about stuffing every moutful 1/3 full of vegetables :sigh:

I dont unfortunately - its people who come on here and say their C hasnt told them anything or given them the leaflet and they are already 15 weeks pregnant, it really gets my goat!

I know thats why but they could have called superfree something else couldnt they as the S and SS work great in the books already lol!

Honestly though we have some people in my class who come and i dont know how they lose weight as they dont have a clue how the plan works! i think one woman is only losing weight because she's given up alchohol since joining slimming world but she said when i hit target i'm going to start drinking again - well she not learnt anything then has she! She hasnt learnt how to incorporate drinking into her weekly plan so as soon as she hits target and starts boozing again she's just going to gain all her weight back! :sigh:

In the leaflet I have it doesn't say pregnant women need any extra, only breastfeeding. My midwife said I only actually needed an additional 300cal in the last trimester. You can get all the fibre, nutrients, calcium etc from plenty of free foods & these are listed in the leaflet so you don't need additional healthy extras when pregnant. I tried to stick to sw when pregnant but only because it's healthy eating, not to lose weight (I was 8lb off target when I fell pregnant) & had a very healthy boy at 9lb 11oz!! My leaflet may be out of date but I only got it in January. x

That will be an old leaflet as the advice has changed in the past 6 months. You are right however that you really don't need much more than a healthy balanced diet.

That must be the old leaflet, I have the new one printed 2012, throughout pregnancy 2 A's and 2B's are needed and you follow extra easy, I can't quote th bf bits as I'm only 14 weeks so will read that in 25 weeks Lol

If you were only 8lbs from Target you wouldn't have been advised to lose weight, a midwife will only advise someone with a bmi of 30 or more to lose weight during pregnancy. Mine is 35 I think and my midwife has given me the green light to lose up to 2 and a half stone. I've lost 6 lbs so far and I'm happy with that :)

That's why sw is the only plan approved during pregnancy as it isn't a diet its healthy eating :D
