Alternative Bars

Hi All,

I am due to go away for work on Monday for a week... I won't have a microwave to use so I was hoping to use shakes and bars. Unfortunately my delivery of bars (ordered Tues) hasn't arrived yet, hopefully they will come in the morning.

Just in case they don't does anybody have any suggestions of any alternative bars that I can buy off the shelf to tide me over for a week until i get back?
Really disappointed, S&S delivery is usually amazing... although i guess it's Royal Mail to blame really as I know they were dispatched quickly.

Thanks

Tesco Ultra Slim bars or Biggest Loser Meal Replacement bars (not the snack ones) although you'll need to accept that they are higher in calories.

Yay I go a eply... thanks Borders!!! Tesco Ultraslim... so these are meal replacement too?

Thanks very much

Biggest loser bars are delicious, even better than s&s (sorry to be disloyal s&s),but they are more calories,200 a bar I think, compared to s&s 130 calories (on average) per bar.

Any recommendations on BL bars? I tried the Choc mint one ages ago and found it a bit like cardboard, it was really dense - maybe I chose a bad one!

I"ve just had a quick look on the telco website... the Ultraslim bars have more than 22g carbs in them... what do S&S have because that sounds like a lot to me!

Yes, they have more carbs and calories than the S&S bars and I wouldn't suggest that you use them all the time as a result but if you're stuck .....

Not all carbs have an effect on blood sugar though which is the important bit when in ketosis. Polyols don't so you can subtract those from the carb total to get net carbs and it's that total I would use to assess my total carb intake. I would try to keep under 70g per day once polyols are subtracted. If you do 100% S&S you don't have to worry as it's all within the right limits but if you start changing things around you need to do more 'counting' of carbs.

And I don't know if the Tesco bars contain polyols - you'd need to check. I know that the BL bars have some though.

Very interesting - thanks for the info!

I had an Atkins bar the other day, and I stayed in ketosis, and it was deeeelish! I know your not meant to have many of them, but as a one off it was ok

Atkins... are they meal replacement bars? I've ever tried the chocolate bars but i thought they were snack bars!

Really hope my delivery arrives in the morning!

Have you been in touch with S and S about your delivery? They are usually next day, so if you ordered before 2.00pm on Tuesday the order should have been delivered by Wednesday or Thursday if you ordered later. They use a courier service not Royal Mail, so shouldn't be a problem with the post.
Give them a ring - hope your delivery comes soon.

That's very useful info BG! That means that the Atkins bars are really low in carbs :)

Yeah, I count net carbs since I'm mainly interested in staying in ketosis and am refeeding. I use the Atkins bars but they're not full MRP so if you're on 100% S&S be careful and have one on the odd occasion, not every day.
