Appendix or IBS??!

Joanne24

Restarting!
For about a month now I've had stabbing pains in my right hand side just under my rib cage. Its started spreading to my back and its agony. Had the final straw yesterday when I was doubled over in college with the pain.

Now, I was suggested it could be some form of IBS but I don't really know anything about IBS and I didn't think I would be in so much pain if that's what it was.

Also had it suggested to me that it could be my appendix

Waiting to go to the doctors this morning, just wanted to post about it cause I feel soo shitty

Hey Hun

I wouldn't suggest it was appendix as typically the pain gets so bad you would have to go hospital or ring for ambulance.....

The body is a weird old thing though hope doctors can shed some more light and you start to feel better xx

Yeah I thought that myself, just starting to worry now lol

Thank you, I hope so to!

I had my appendix out 6 weeks ago. The pain was indescribable. I took pain killer after pain killer to no avail.
It got to the point where if I pressed on any part of my stomach, it would hurt right down at my right hip towards my belly button. And when they pressed there...well, needless to say you could have heard me from the other side of the world.

I don't think it's your appendix, as typically the pain is much lower. It doesn't sound like IBS either to be honest, as I've suffered with that since I was a teen. It could be some sort of gastrointestinal disorder though.
I hope it's nothing serious and you feel much better soon.
Let us know what the doc says x x

I have been and she thinks it may be a bladder infection, been given antibiotics. Although she thinks there may be something else so I have to go back for blood tests.

Fingers crossed its nothing serious. Doped up on painkillers atm!

Thanks guys xx

I've had pain in the exact same plce and up between the shoulder blades, doc says it's my gall bladder and if I have more attacks they'll look at ridding me of it!
Apparently it's common in women who are 'fat, fair, and forty'!!!!

Hope you feel better soon

:O I hope that's not what he/she said!

Thank you! Hope its nothing and just an infection that can be treated with antibiotics.

Oh no the 'fat, fair and forty' didn't come from the doc! I read that after he told me what the attacks were. Doesn't apply as my natural hair colour is as dark as night!

certainly sounds like gallstones to me, have you noticed its worse after eating something fatty or drinking alcohol?

Guess the doc doing some blood tests should shed some light on it for you.

Poor you, very painful condition xx

I suffered from a pain in the same place - on the right hand side just below my ribcage sometimes extending through to my back. It caused me the most pain at night when I was lying on my right hand side and made me wake up two or three times a night. I am fair fat and over forty. The doctor sent me for an ultrasound scan of my gall bladder but they didn't find anything. I returned to my doctor complaining of the same thing for almost three years. The trouble was that the pain wasn't constant and I cancelled appointments with the consultant when I couldn't feel the pain only for the pain to return the next day. I noticed that the pain was worse after I had eaten a fatty meal e.g. cauliflower cheese, thai green curry or spaghetti bolognese. This was pre- slimming world days. I went on holiday to France this year and had a lot of salads and meals cooked by someone else and the pain decreased almost to the point of non-existence, but when I came back and started Slimming World the pain came back with a vengeance. Anyway the point is, after thinking about the pattern of it, and realising that my doctor wasn't going to sort it, I decided to try consuming olive oil and olives. Not in stupid amounts- I didn't want to be reckless and I also didn't want to go "off-plan". I started this on the 8th of December since then I have had about 2 syns a day in olives or extra virgin olive oil. The pain diminished considerably the first night and since then has completely gone except for one night when I had only had 0.5 syns worth. I expected my weight loss to go down, but it has actually increased. Last week I attended 2 Christmas dinners, one supper party and visited my Mum. Whilst I was trying to be sensible, I was expecting a weight gain, but in fact I lost 3lb. My theory is that Slimming world can turn into a very low fat diet and the fats can be the wrong sort. You need some HDL oils to keep your gall bladder working properly. It's really just turning the SW diet into the classic Mediterranean diet. I am feeling healthier than I have done for ages but that might be just that I'm sleeping better. Anyway I hope this helps.
