Blood Pressure

Hi All

Hope you're having good weeks.

Just a quick question on blood pressure. When I started, my blood pressure was measured at 108/70 and my pulse at 68. Had it checked yesterday, just under 4 weeks after starting, and it has rocketed up to "pre-hypertension" levels of 135/83 with a resting pulse of 65.

I thought losing 22lbs (no, wait, 23lbs as of this morning) and giving up caffeine would lower it, not raise it!!! Has anyone else experienced this? I am loving the rapid weight loss, but am a bit worried about this...

Thanks all!

As long as your nurse/doctor is OK for you to continue - don't worry. Blood pressure can increase for all sorts of reasons - nerves are a big factor. If you had a busy day or had just been rushing etc.

Your resting pulse has fallen which is a good sign of increased fitness.

What did the nurse/doc say about you continuing. Was it ok?

I really wouldn't take any notice if it was done manually that can the only way its acurately. The cuff may have not been placed on correctly or may have been to.small/big or a different machine, ARM and time of day has an effect on the reading. also I would have been more concerned with the lower reading as you could have suffered light headedness more so in the 1st weeks.

I would echo what the others have said. By the way I get "white coat hypertension" so always ask for a second reading if the first one is way off. It can be amazing the difference a moment of quiet breathing can make!

Apparantly if you need a wee your blood pressure will be higher too...

thanks v much all - the pharmacist just stamped the form as fine, it was me who noticed afterwards. LLC hasn't replied to my question as yet!

however, i bought my own monitor, as i don't think it's a bad thing to check from time to time, and all 3 readings have been at the low end of normal, with a low resting pulse, so my diagnosis is poor pharmacist, haha!

next pointless panic for me. er.... TOTM being messed-up maybe? we'll see....

xx
