It was a real struggle for me too but I have finally cracked it.
I kept telling myself it was empty calories but no , it didn't work.
Don't ask me what happened. I just woke up one morning and no longer wanted to drink alcohol. It was very hard come my usual drinkies time so I substituted slimline tonic water and drank it from a wine glass.
You know what worked, what made me stick with it...........................I lost 2 kilos (4.4lbs) in the first week I didn't drink.
I have never looked back and now I never think about it and most certainly do not want to start drinking again. I didn't think I felt any differently when I drank until I stopped and realised how much better and less tired I felt.
