Bran with every pack ??

I dont want to be taking laxitives for the next few months but the constipation this diet gives me is awful

Does anyone have any thought on taking bran

I was thinking a heaped teaspoon with every meal pack so for me that would be 4 per day

obviously this is going to up my carb and calorie intake but is it going to make much difference

and should I go for oat bran or wheat bran im confused ?

any advice gratefully recieved :)
 
Found this but it doesnt say if its a level spoon or heaped

A cup of oat bran provides 231 calories, 6.6 g fat, 16.3 g protein, 62.3 g carbohydrate and 14.5 g fiber.

If you use a tablespoon at a time, a likely serving size, it will provide 14 calories, 0.4 g fat, 1.0 g protein, 3.7 g carbohydrate and 0.9 g fiber.

so if i had 4 spoons a day Id be looking at an extra almost 16g of carb per day
 
Ok well wheat bran is nearly half the carb and calories of oat bran so Id definitely go for wheat

4 spoons would be about 8-10 extra carbs per day, I think that would be worth it if it works
 
Report back. If it works I might give it a go. Psyllium husk is supposed to be really high in fibre but it seems to do nothing for me :(. It's the constipation that I find hard to cope with too.
 
When I did CD I took psyllium husks. I had to have quite a lot though because if I just had a teaspoon nothing moved. I had one big spoonful in each shake which sorted me out. My friend takes wheat bran with hers which has cleared her out too.

I've just started taking Benefiber and it is having the desired effect. It seems to be the same stuff as the Cambridge fibre stuff - white, dissolvable (sp?) - no taste and no thickening. Sugar free, sodium free.

Nutritional info per serving (2 teaspoons twice a day) Cals 8, carbs 0.585g, fibre 3g. 3 for 2 in the larger Tescos at the at the mo so 3 pots (38 servings per pot) is £10. It's in a green tub and among the vits / slimming bars etc
