Exercise.

Hi everyone. :) I'm approaching my last stone and was just wondering what kind of exercise people do? So far I haven't exactly done much in the way of exercise but I'm aware that the final stone can be a pain to get off so I'm thinking I'll have to move my butt more if I want to see results lol.
What sort of exercise would you recommend and how much? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi hun, afraid I can't help much as I can't really exercise much due to my fibromyalgia, but swimming and walking are good places to start, maybe try zumba or the wiifit if you have one? i would say start of slow and build it up :)

If you like walking it can be great for you? And then you can try to move it up to jogging (use couch to 5k for this maybe?). I did C25k to start off exercise and I've done a few 5k runs now, couple 10k runs and even a 10 mile run... haven't been out in a couple weeks but gonna get moving again hehe.
If you can swim, I hear that's great all over exercise!

Thank you for the advice guys. :) I think I'll start off with the walking and then look into couch to 5k, it sounds like fun. :D I do actually love swimming but I'm still very uncomfortable with my body and the thought of having to get into a swimming costume scares the life out of me lol. I might consider that again when I've lost a bit more weight though.

There are more than just swimming costume out there, they have these amazing swim dresses now that have a skirt attached to them! they are amazing! I usually look through www.simplybe.co.uk find a style I like and google it to find it cheaper! swimming is greta and low impact :)

Oooh thanks for the info, I will definitely check it out! Will they let you wear it in the pool though? Last time I went swimming in a pool (many years ago lol) I tried to wear shorts and a t-shirt over my costume but I was told it wasn't allowed. :(

yeah they are made of the same material as swimming costumes and are allowed in the pool, if you speak to the life guards ost of them are happy to let you wear a regular t shirt and short in a pool over a swimming costumes.

It sounds like things have changed since I last went and knowing that makes me feel more confident about going swimming as it's probably my favourite kind of exercise. Now all I need to do is pluck up the courage to actually go! Oh and invest in something that gives a bit more coverage.

Instead of focusing on the negatives hun, people wont be thinking "ewww look at her" because thats how everyones feels at swimming pool, they will probably think your thinking the same thing about them! your there to exercise to aid your weight loss and to become healthier, be proud your changing your life and don't worry about other people, your there for you. If they dont like what they see, they can look away :) but I'm sure you will look amazing :)

Aww thank you for your kind words. :) Unfortunately I do have it in my head that people will stare at me and think I'm repulsive but I know those are my own issues about my body and I need to deal with them. Swimming is something I enjoy and if I want to do it then I'm gonna have to get over the negative thoughts. One of those pretty swim dresses will surely help though. :D

The last thing you are is repulsive. I'm 21 st and decided I'd take some pics of me in my swimming costume to show as I lose weight and promised I would post them on here to try and help get over my confidence issues, and I cried and blubbed and beat my self up and they were horrendous, and I mean the were absolutely vile! I made my self feel sick looking at them, but you are 12st and slim, seriously if I woke up tomorrow at 12st I probably would die of a heart attack at being so slim.

Great idea about the swimsuit pics ... im going to do that too. I first look up swimming again when i was 20st 4lbs. Now in the late 18s ... and hopefully going down. Lol. Itd be lovely to have a comparison pic for when i hit target.

Dont worry about the pool. I used to be so embarrassed about going but that was more because when i used to go the lifeguards were pretty cute! Lol. Nowadays theyre all so young that im less embarrassed for myself and more sorry for the trauma im exposing them to! ;-) lol.

I wish I could be as brave as you ladies, I'm working on it though. :) I guess there will always be something about our bodies that we don't like but that's life and nobody is perfect.

Where I live there's a new Life Centre that opened not too long ago with a fancy pool and it looks lovely but I think it's usually quite busy and that does put me off. :( Grrr I get so annoyed with myself sometimes, why can't I just go instead of worrying about this and that and everything in between lol!

The grwat thing about C25k is you can do it he or in the gym or runnong on street.

C25k is a godsend. Furthest I've run so far is 10miles now ;)

Cycling is low impact if you have a bike? I did 21km today on my bike, felt great after :)

Sent from my Galaxy S using MiniMins

Well i have another excuse for not being able to cycle and its not just my ample backside lol

I have a condition (yes i hear you cry another one! Lol) that means to much pressure on areas of my skin cause abcess' to form under the skin so cycling is off the list too (if someone pokes m hard instead of a bruise i get an abcess under the skin) :( i use to lve cycling round the local lake when i was younger, can wait to shift some of this weight so some of my ealth complaints go away an i can do soooo much more!

O I wish i could run. I look like phobe from friends when i try ... like a total girl, arms flailing! Lol.

Im going to swim and exercise bike (the latter with the ipod pumping) and hope for the best. Lol. O and do some walking. Walking is marvelous ... im a convert to it. I just need to get a bit more of an exercise routine going on. Lol
