Fibre

Can anyone recommend a fibre supplement thats allowed on this diet/that works?

Its just that i have a hx of bad constipation and have been free of it for over a year now. Would be devastated if it started up again! :( (guess i shuda thought of this earlier).

Any tips would be very much appreciated!!

Interested in this too - I suffer really bad from rubbish bowels and not wanting to take movicol again as I can only take with smoothie. Thanks for the heads up.

There are a few options that I know of:

1. The SnS one - I haven't tried it but if it's the same as the powdered one which LL sell then it didn't work for me.

2. Psyllium husks - in tablet form these work well - but you must drink lots of extra water (even more than currently!)

3. Wheat bran - you can add wheat bran to your oatmeal or porridge of you have it - this is what I did through the diet. It does add a few carbs but not many. It tastes yummy too! Eheat bran is an insoluable fibre.

4. Oat bran - you can add oatbran to your oatmeal/porridge. Doesn't change the taste much. It's a soluable fibre and so it swells up inside you and makes you feel a bit fuller too. I have it now that I'm in maintenance (I make up an oatmeal thing with the oatbran and milk - no SnS pack) but didn't have it when on the diet.

I would definitely suggest that you take extra fibre rather than using laxitives regularly because it is better for you and your body. Hope you find the thing that works best for you.

Have you tried the galettes Weasey? I'm looking forward to having sweet and savoury ones x

No I haven't tried the galettes - I like to have the oatbran with milk cooked up like porridge and so I haven't wanted to try the galettes yet - I will at somepoint though!

Has anyone tried the Psyllium husks tablets? I just bought a load on the internet in the hope of getting things going again.

I have used them. Make sure you drink lots of extra water (yes even more!) and they work well.

I have used Fibergel in the past when I had IBS. It comes in sachets which you mix with water to make a rather minging orange flavoured, very grainy drink. It's not pleasant but it really does the job. You have to drink it straight away or it goes gloopy- I would pinch my nose and down it!

Careful with fribregel as I believe that it contains sugar and so could take you out of ketosis.

Just checked mine Weasey, my packet says that it is sugar free and gluten free, although I don't know if this varies if there are different varieties. HOWEVER, they DO contain citric acid, so proceed with caution if you are concerned about it.

Aha - that explains it! Thanks Saddlebag.
