My mummy bought me his autobiography for Christmas, as I love the man, and which I am halfway through reading, but it's breaking my heart! At 21 he weighed 21 stone, went to drama school and decided that the only way to get a decent acting role was to be thin like everyone else and so basically starved himself and lost 10 stone in a year! He lived on laxatives, coffee, ciggies and fruit! I don't know how he coped (or how anyone does in these situations) I just wanna meet him and give him a big hug!! I used to wanna meet him so that he could wobble my bangers! Ha ha!!

He did a programme on channel 4 before, which looked at his history a bit. It was a while ago, but i think he was talking to overweight kids, it was really good, especially coming from someone who had been there.

while he may have "been there" and understands what it feels like for the larger ones of us, he's hardly the best person to talk to kids about diet if that's the way he did it.. not really a healthy way to do it is it?
fair play to him for doing something about it but probably not the best way to do it...

He didn't talk to them about diet, in fact there was next to no comment on how he had lost weight. The programme focused more on how people felt, were treated an their situation.

Yeah, I don't think he advocates the fact that that is how to lose weight. What is interesting is that he's talking about how he struggled to find a healthy way to eat, and that he was virtually anorexic. I agree it's not the best way to do it, and he says the same thing. Funny how the whole "you've got to be skinny to get noticed" is still out there though It should be more to do with healthy eating and healthy weights etc.

and yet if you speak to real men about what they prefer in woman it isn't skinny. I realise you are talking career wise and it is true you see very few fat people in positions of high power.

I haven't posted this before because it looks immodest but now I am going to.

On Sunday I was talking to one of the Spanish antique dealers. A really nice man who dresses beautifully. He was commenting on my weight loss and I confided that I would like to lose around another 3 kilos. He astounded me by saying "no don't. A woman with class can get away with being a few kilos heavier. Men like it. " He went on to say he admires class and intelligence in woman. I am sure he was not referring to me. But I found it very interesting to hear that from a modern, trendy and intelligent man.

I enjoy Gok too. He is always interesting and a lot of fun.

And yes, I meant career-wise. I was just babbling and trying to get it all out in one go! And it's very true, most men love curves, which is a good thing in my book!

of course you see lots of fat people in positions of power in a company.. though it's ususally gained AFTER they get there.. all those "executive" outings and so on..

as for men lusting after women with curves, that's just nature doing it's thing..
they all indicate to a man ( subconciously anyway ) that the woman would be good at carying and nurturing a child..
they don't call them "child bearing hips" for nothing...

you're telling me! i walked into a bar on friday night and the amount of looks i got from men was rediculous. ok i am feeling more confident and some of my nicer tops look and fit better, so i was looking more attractive, but whoever says men don't like bigger women are talking absolute b*llocks!

even my boyfriend says he doesn't like bigger women, but he's with me and has stuck around for 5 years, so my weight can't be that much of a turn off!

the proof is in my pudding! lol

I think it helps him that he can emphasis as he had a weight issue when he was younger and knows what it is like to have body issues

Well I've finished the book now and it was a fab read! I felt so much for him and like him even more, if that's possible!
