Has anyone ever challenged planning permission?

I've just found out that a Dominos pizza store will be opening 2 doors away from me. Aside from the obvious temptation issue I am worried about a few things. Mainly, the access to the store for employees is via my driveway. I'm worried that there will be a constant stream of Domino mopeds & delivery trucks coming and going until late on every day. It will be really noisy. I'm also worried that customers will just park across my drive all the time as there will be far more traffic. It's already a bit of a problem despite double yellow lines & signs up.

What do Ido? Am I worrying over nothing? I'm really pissed off that the only way we even knew about it happening was a planning permission for new signs! They didn't even bother to tell us as a courtesy.

I think you have every right to complain and get your message across. Especially as access is past your property. Have a look on the government planning portal website. They should have some info about who to contact.

Contact the planning/development control section of your local authority and they should be able to advise you on how you can challenege the newly planned development. I work for a local authority, and I'm quite surprised this was never put out to public consultation before a decision was made.

I imagine it's because it's not going to be changing category or something. It was a fish & chip shop before. But with no delivery function, and only 1 delivery a week from big trucks.

I have posted a comment on the planning permission for the extraction fan - in itself an issue as it will right next to my front door - and I've also emailed dominos directly. The mopeds will be going through my driveway to get to the back of the store - that's a massive issue & I really can't believe that Dominos didn't even let us know.

Will other people in your street be inconvenienced too? If so, get them to complain as well. A lot of complaints from neighbours will have more impact. Have a look at the council's website to see if there have been other complaints. You might find out more about the actual application there too.

Could you get your local newspaper involved? The traffic issue would probably be the best thing to stress.

Could you find out just why it is that they have rights across your driveway? Seems odd. Your local council could help you with this. It could be that they don't really have any right, just assume that they do. In which case you could scupper all their plans!!

Also, if there are fumes and/or noise from the extractor fan, this could be an environmental nuisance. Talk to your local environmental office to get their advice.

Good luck!

I don't anyone will be as affected really. We live above a convenience shop & the other people who live above the other shops in the parade are for the most part people who work in the shops.

The access thing is something only affecting us as we live at the end of the parade & the shop will be next door - the access to our flat & the back of the shop that will be dominos is via an alleyway, and my driveway is off the alley. Basically, i will be blocked in or out by deliveries. But I'm more worried about the Moped noise.

Might be time to look at moving
