Don’t get me wrong. I love the name Minimins. It like the name of a favourite Auntie, or a much loved game like hopscotch.
There is a effervescence about the name. It flutters off the tongue leaving a sense of slimness. It isn’t a’fat’ name….there is nothing about it that says ‘you’re fat mate….live with it’.
Much that I appreciate what Anne Diamond is trying to do with Fat Happens, saying the name leaves a gloomy feeling of resignation. It’s rather depressing. As if it’s something that can happen to us without our acknowledgement, like being run over by a bus. You’ve been run over…tough mate.
The name Minimins gives hope for the future without dwelling on the past.
But…I do have a problem with it. As you know, I am a music teacher, and if I tell the children once more that they have to watch out for the Minimins, instead of the minims, they are really going to start realising that I have completely lost the plot.
The fact that I have lost the plot, is something that at the present time, I would just like to be kept between Minimins members and myself. In my offline world, I am respected and considered to have a high level of knowledge in my field. For the sake of my business, I must keep the truth from them all.
Unless I can show some element of control in differentiating my minims from my minimins, I’m basically doomed
So for the moment, I will continue to tell the children that they must have misheard ….but for how much longer can I keep this dark secret to myself??
Any help in regard to solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
