Mens JUDDD calculations

Hi there

My ex is thinking of doing JUDDD and has asked me to find out on here how he should do it, he has quite a bit to lose so his calculations are

Up day : 3470
Down day : 694

Should he stick to these or should he do what I do which is 2000/500?

Thanks if you can help :) xxx

If those are his numbers its fine for him to stick to them. Bolero does 600, and 3000 if i recall correctly.

The book only suggests 2000/500 for typical women, men need more calories than women because they tend to be more muscle dense.

He can round his figures for simplicity if he wants, for example he could do 700/3500. hth x

3500/700 averages out at 2200 a day if he does alternate days. It will climb for every extra UD a week. By comparison the Hairy bikers were on 1250 calories and doing exercise to lose their three stone* To my mind the 3500 is way too much.

*( I go with the calories in versus calories out approach whatever diet. The health benefits and long term maintainabilities are what I see as being the novel part of this approach)

I have to disagree with you there I am afraid, I believe the calorie deficit theory has been more or less debunked as our bodies are far more complex than that, its def the feast /famine effect that works with this diet , if I went on the calorie defecit theory I shouldn't lose weight most weeks. If you are going to eat less than your specified amount you may as well calorie count everyday, you won't get the benefits if you don't do the plan, what have your cals looked like this week ?

EDA that amount was far too low for the Hairy Bikers , yes they will have lost weight but a large part of that will have been muscle mass, its also not sustainable they will go back to 'normal ' eating and regain it all, I would put a bet on that one lol

Hmm but 1250 calories seems too low for a man on a diet? lol, thats what my calories were when doing cal counting. But I've sent the ex a link to Boleros diary and I think hes going to do 600/3000 at least for this week to try and see if that works for him too xxx

That sounds right to me Emily, and yes 1250 is ridiculously low for a man let alone a largish man, surprised they advocated it on a TV programme to be honest. Anyway good luck to your OH x

Popping in from another forum to agree - the bikers diet was actively dangerous when you add in exercise - and Dave said he aimed to burn 600 calories a day with high intensity workouts. That leaves him 600 calories a day - lower than VLCD levels for a man.

I don't believe that's exactly what they were eating tbh but it wasn't really a diet plan programme, it was a recipe show to fit in with their book. I'd like to see actual meal plans of what they ate in a day because a few recipes wouldn't have lasted them several months, but on the whole I found the 'advice' in the programme poorly explained and often irresponsible.
