New and need advice :)

Hi, I'm new as you prob can guess. I started myself two weeks ago and have lost by myself 6lbs but i think i would like to follow some kind of diet but i always end putting on more weight and over eating. I have a holiday in september and at 5ft7 and 238lbs i wouldnt look good hence why i need to diet and up take the excercise.
I was hoping to get to 13stone by the time of the holiday.
Just wonder could someone give me a few tips because i already feel myself getting lazy and giving up.
I have been reading things off this site and its been the biggest help for the last two weeks hence why i joined :)
Would be grateful for any tips to keep me motivated :)
