New and need help

Hi all,

My name is Jessica, I'm 21 and live in London. I'm generally happy with how life is going now except for the fact that I want to be back into size 12/14 as I am currently size 20! :ashamed0005:

There's been a massive down in my life recently, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in October 2011, however I'm now in remission which is all good, and so I'm turning a new leaf and wanting to become a new fitter and healthier person!

However, I can't do this on my own, and I don't feel I have the support of my family, I feel I will just be judged by them. So I'm calling out for help from the great unknown, who hopefully, are truly great :)

I haven't really got a clue where to start, I've never really tried to diet before, not properly anyway. Just fad diets, which are useless in the long run. My problem is that I'm pretty fussy about the food I eat, and although my mum will say until she's blue in the face that I "just need to get used to other food" it's not really working.

Also, I need to eat food that is easy and quick to prepare as I work in London as a Junior Graphic Designer and lead a pretty hectic life.

I hope someone can help me! :D

P.S I don't know much about forums either, so let me know straight away if I break any rules :p

Thanks,

Jess xx

Well done om taking the step to change what you are unhappy with! If you have the will power im sure u will do great, its never too late to be who you might have been so seize the day :) I am starting a vlcd once I give birth to my baby due in 2 weeks, I'm going to do the exante diet as I've seen amazing results in friends. I am 16st and want to lose at least 6.5st so I think it will be a long hard year + for me but I have will power as I don't want my baby girl to have a chunky mummy! Good luck on ur journey to a new and slim you x

Well now you have taken the 1st step, there's no stopping you! Have you thought about what diet you will follow? Im on Weight Watchers. I am really enjoying it (never thought I would say that about a diet!). Its good if you are picky as you can eat pretty much anything you like as long as you limit your portion sizes. I have made some small changes and I am noticing big differences in my weight and body shape. I even feel like I got more energy.
You will notice changes quickly if you stick to the plan.
Good luck :)

Do you need the support of a class? If so choose the class that is most convenient for you re day and place.
Good luck.

I don't really have the time for a class. And not really much money for diets like that. I was thinking of going to my gp and seeing what he suggests. Is this wise? X

Most GPs have a dietician attached to their practice, who should be able to help you with a diet plan x

Probably worth me having a chat with them then. I'm not very good at following diets. I think I need something completely different. Like tfr or vlcd(?) I think that's what they are called ^_^

Hi there... welcome..:D If money is an issue, I think doing a vlcd will cost you a lot more... I know the LL cost me at least £66 a week without any other extras! Your best bet would to be seeing your GP as per the suggestions above and be refered to a dietician. We also have Health Trainers in my region and they are very good and this is free on the NHS. They help you look at what you eat and how much you eat and just recommend you making small changes in portions and what you eat and also to start including some exercise. Look for what is available in your area. I know that different areas have different support for weight loss. Good luck in your weight loss journey. I start my final journey tomorrow at WW's. I agree with goingtothechapel, with WW's you can eat anything and still be full and enjoy what you eat. I never felt like a diet as I always filled myself up with lots of veg!

And well done on taking the first step. A xx

My problem is I'm no good at eating food that's really good for me. Like fruit and veg. And I hate preparing food. I'm such a pain lol. I want something that's easy to do. I was looking into exante or slim and save. Exante price range doesn't look too bad I probably spend that much on lunches for a week anyway! X

Exante and S&S work out at around £25 a week so perfect if you're on a budget

I find S&S much easier to stick to

Well, if you don't like preparing food and don't like fruit and veg, maybe Starlight's suggestions are the best bet for you... Good luck. A x

Cool what kind of food things do slim and save do? I've had a little look at exante. But in they're medical bit they mentioned about having cancer. So I've asked on here and contacted them too. X

Slim and save do bars, soup, shakes and meal packs

Do you know if they have medical requirements?

I have just been on S & S website and they have a list of medical conditions that you can't do the programme on or some that need you to be monitored by Dr. Have a look at their website.... I don't think you need an actual medical form to be signed by Dr like you do in LL for example. I could be wrong. x

I don't think it mentions it. I just had a look. I emailed exante and they said if I'm in remission I should be fine. But u should consult my gp before starting it. So I'm gonna book an appointment for next week! Excited!

I can't decide between exante or slim and save. Ss seem to have a lot more to offer. With the meals and stuff.

When I was considering all my options, people gave me their advise and it looked like there was a lot more people liking the foods on S & S! x
