I'm 66 and need to sort this weight once and for all. A recent bout of DVT has made me think a lot about how I've just accepted the asthma, arthritis, general aches and pains, lethargy and exhaustion. Poor sleep patterns have not helped either. I have a store of clothes in 20, 18, 16 and a few 14. (Bet, I'm not the only one). Still work 3 days a week, commute into the City. Used to walk for pleasure - it's now TRUDGE for necessity. Doing an elimination diet to start with - 3 days in, pinpoint any pain trigger foods. Suspect coffee, dairy and wheat. Hope it's not eggs., I love them. Worth going with a few weeks of limited food if it helps make life more comfortable. John Mansfield and Shideh Pauria - The Six Secrets of Successful Weightless. It seems that foodstuff to which you are intolerant can prevent weight loss too. Could explain some past problems.
The coffee withdrawal headache and "fuzziness" have cleared, 7.6lbs down.

Had to take some Piritease for allege - I gained weight!! Went for my first Pilates private lesson yesterday. It seems that although I stand very upright, I am crooked, not just from the one leg shorter than the other but my right side is slightly behind my left and even when sitting might should

Just started the food testing - had broccoli with dinner tonight. See how the scales are tomorrow. 9 pounds down now.

Down another 1 lb this morning so broccoli is okay, today's test is set peppers - first of the nightshade family. think I'll do stuffed with lamb mince, got some huge ones from the Turkish shop in the village.

Yesterday's test was chicken - weight was up 1 pound this morning. pity in that I like chicken, but positive in that I now have an indication as to why I have been experiencing these serious weight fluctuations. No test today until weight loss is back on track.

Still trying to drop that 1 pond the chicken added to me - so no food tests until it's gone, pity I was looking forward to my banana

Oh boy - I'm so hungry today, had been on an even keel, but today my salmon salad and 2 plums did not cut it. Have raided the emergency stash - 2 oz of pistachios and they didn't touch the sides, still hungry, drank another glass of water, still hungry.

Got through yesterday, though dinner was late because DB was stuck on the road. Finally got rid of the chicken weight. Down this morning. Very satisfying. Will be testing banana today.

Well banana is obviously okay. Today's test is brown rice - not something I use much, but worth a try, expands the range of foods. Testing only one thing each day means a very slow process, but worth it I think. As a passionate coffee drinker since I was about 9 years old, 14 days coffee free is something.

Hi, I've been reading your diary with great interest and will be following you to see how you get on. We could be sisters! I have the same thing going on from asthma through to the exhaustion and I'm sick of GP treating me like a hypochondriac, and suggesting I have ME. I know it's food related so tried an elimination diet last week...soooo hard and only lasted 4 days, my head was killing! I found it way too restricting and was hungry all of the time.

The diet I tried didn't start re-introducing food until day 21, then only introducing one thing every 3 days, way too hard! I'm going to check out the 6 secrets of success as would like to know what's causing so many problems. I already know I've an egg allergy, lactose intolerant but now suspect Casein is a big problem as I've had reactions from soy, almond & hemp milk. I also suspect tomatoes.
I gave up eating meat & chicken years ago as always felt sluggish & tired after eating it.

If you put weight on does it signify something you're eating isn't agreeing with you? My weight shot up by 6lb and I was barely eating anything! Even after going back to CC, and low CC at that, I was still 2lb up at end of the week!

PS: like the things you've got written in your signature :)

Hi TIBBS, Yes putting weight on is an indicator that something you ate does not agree with you. The book suggests that after the 7th day you test 2 new things (in specified order) per day, but I'm trying 1 each day - long and slow but more accurate I think. I'm really determined to get it right this time. The first few days are difficult, but what is 3-4 days compared to the rest of my life. If you are intolerant to TOMATOES, you should be wary of peppers, aubergines and potatoes, as they are the same plant family.

My signature is to remind me that it is not too late to change things and (hopefully) show others that they should be sorting their weight issues now not waiting until 66 yrs old to do so.

Had another "hiccup" on the weight front only point 4 of a pound, but being caught in a situation where the listed foods where not available, I had some smoked salmon, as it seemed innocuous, but possibly not a good idea. Also roasted my own cashew nuts, with Himalayan Sea Salt - they are gorgeous take 10 mins - far better than ready roasted, which might be roasted in any cheap manufactured oil (I used a little olive oil)

Hi Clironka, thanks for replying. I was reading one of the reviews of the book and it said if you gain weight it could be a sign of yeast syndrome. I was eating gazillions of mushrooms while tomatoes were off menu, seemingly if you are yeast intolerant mushrooms are a no no as well as potatoes etc. My, isn't the body such a complex thing!
You're doing well, I like your way of thinking and wish I'd sorted out my food problems years ago. Like you, my weight has steadily gone up since my late teens and I really need to get a handle on things. I like the idea of the clean living, no processed food approach.
It'll be interesting to see what you find you've got intolerances to :) and hopefully stops your aches & pains etc X

Weight is back on it's way down 15.4 today!!! Best get back to food testing. Trying to think how to handle Saturday. I don't generally talk to anyone other than DB and Daughter about what I am doing weightwise - firmly believe it is my business. Every year I make novelty birthday cakes for DB's grandchildren, they come over to us, my daughter joins us when able and we have a real family affair with cake to follow the meal. They are "picky eaters" not likely to try anything 'different' so it will be a hearty sausage stew with plenty of mash, with a cheese and tomato pizza for the birthday girl who eats a VERY limited diet. Obviously I cannot join in with sausage stew, so will need to discreetly serve myself something different, I do not want a discussion about what I am doing as they still believe in low fat. calorie counting that we were all told since the 70's was gospel. Odd that the nation has become fatter since we began to follow that advice. Dry January is not unusual so I can explain away my not drinking any wine.
