Hi everyone,

I'm Gemma, 21 and I'm starting the cambridge diet on Wednesday.
I'm going to start on Step 2, although I have tried the Step 3 but gave up :(

So I'm back and starting on the lower calorie step as I am desperate to get to 11stone from 17stone!

I am not aloud the bars for the first 2 weeks but the trouble is that I do not like the shakes at all! Quite like the soups and porridge but cannot take to the shakes, any tips for making the shakes taste better?

i am worried about starting which was why I joined up on here for any tips you all may have for me to keep me going, thanks!

Hi Gemma. Probably a good idea to start on a higher step, you may find that if you want to you find it easier to move down once in ketosis, or you may find the losses on 810 are just as high and stick with it.

I hated shakes, porridge and soups the first time I did CD, I spent 6 months drinking nothing but Chocolate Tetras. This time round I find I do like the shakes, but only Chocolate, Choc Mint and Fruits of the Forest (I find all the others taste powdery). I blend them with loads of ice so they are like a MacDonalds Thick Shake and they are lovely. Also although you aren't supposed to, if it is a question of keeping you on track ask your CDC for the bars ahead of schedule, mine gives them from day 1 as it reduces the risk of me caving in and heading for a chocolate bar.

You can also add the Mix a Mousse to make it like Angel Delight... gorgeous. I have also frozen tetras in the past to make an ice cream.

Good luck, it is a great diet, you just have to get through the initial 4 days. 4 days in and it will all of a sudden become very easy.

Thanks for the reply!

How long have you been on the CD? And what are your losses/step your on?

I was thinking of buying the cartons but aren't they more expensive?

Im really looking forward to starting, worried about the water intake as I hardly drink water although ive been drinking more the last couple of weeks.

Is the mix a mousse just one flavour? And how many servings isit?

And what is tetras?

Thank you

I did CD 3 years ago and lost 6 stone, doing SS during the week and SS+ at the weekends. Sadly I just went back to my old eating habits and piled the weight back on over the last 2 years (I really could kick myself). Nothing to do with the diet, I just went back to eating like a pig. This time I am trying to do SS, but having a few relapses, it is so difficult to get back on track. I am doing 8 weeks SS though in the lead up to my holiday. On average I lost about 1 stone every month with more in the first month because it includes all the water loss in the first week. The Tetras are more expensive, but for me they are the same price as the bars and I would rather have one of those at work than have to mess around making shakes. Mixamousse gets put into your shakes so you can make any flavour (basically I think it is just gelatine).

The losses really aren't that different between SS, SS+ and 810, I have seem a CDC comment on here that they are pretty much the same. It is just some people need the total removal of food (I am one of those, give me an inch and I take a mile).

I struggle a bit with water, I make sure I have at least a litre while at work just sipping through the day, and that leaves me a litre and a half when I get home. The only time I find it is nightmare is when I haven't drank enough in the day and have to drink more at night, that is a pain.

First few days, keep really busy and keep drinking.

Hi Gemma,

Well done for coming back to Cambridge! I lost 5 1/2 stone on sole source over 3 years ago but like many I didn't move up through the stabilisation plans to maintenance so didn't re-educate myself about food. Obviously if you go back to eating what got you overweight, you will put the weight back on, as I did. I see losing weight as the easy bit, long term maintenance as the real challenge! And maintenance is going to be my real focus this time.

I started 11 days ago and had my first weigh in yesterday morning (after 9 days on step 2 - 810) and had lost a whopping 12 pounds!! I was ecstatic :) 810 is the perfect plan for me as there isn't so much food and such a variety of food that it teases me into pushing the boundries and eating more, but because there is a meal at the end of each day it gives me something to look forward to. Plus, unlike SS, you can eat socially, just within the allowances of 810. Each day I can cope with just having shakes if there is a chicken and cottage cheese salad (or similar) waiting for me at the end!

Do you use a hand blender for your shakes? I whizz mine up for ages with it and they come out smooth and creamy. I wouldn't make them without. Last time I tried literally every flavour and found I only liked choc mint (which is my favourite and I now have one of these every day), chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. So now I stick to those. I also tried all the porridges and soups last time and hated them all so don't have any of these. There's no point forcing yourself to have something you don't like. The tetras are nice, I like the chocolate and strawberry ones. A lot of consultants charge extra for them but if they work for you it's worth spending the little extra. By the way please don't freeze them as has been suggested...the Cambridge guidelines state that other than the porridges, none of the products are suitable for microwaving or freezing as the nutritional content is affected by doing so. If you're not getting all your nutrition, your weight loss will suffer. On plans 810 and above you can have the bars from day one, although a lot of consultants seem to think the SS and SS+ 2 week rule for bars applies to all plans. They now do lemon bars that you can have up to 3 a day of! My consultant had none in so I'm still waiting for these. People rave about them!

I was also nervous about starting so can really relate to you but a week and a half in and I am loving it! Wish I'd started ages ago!! Stick at it and when you see your weight going down, your clothes getting bigger and your shape re-emerging you'll know it's all worth it :)

Hiya everyone, thanks for all your comments and support.

Day 1 today, had 1 pint of water already, then got original porridge for breakfast, leek and potato soup for lunch and a strawberry silk ready made shake for snack time.

Not sure what to have for dinner, probably chicken and broccoli lol.

Have a good day everyone
