No longer "Overweight" !
Please bear with me - this is going to be an epic post...! Inspired by discussions on the 100% forum about the rewards we will give ourselves when we get to goal, I've returned to ideas of getting a tattoo - here are the ramblings I've put together today.
When I was 18 or 19 I had my first ideas about getting a tattoo. I didn't want to rush into getting something I'd grow out of and regret, so I made myself a deal that if I still felt the same way in 5 years time, I'd do it. I've changed my mind about what it should be a few times, so now 20 years on, I've still not done it!
Here's a summary of my evolving thoughts through the years:
Place: Base of my neck at the back. It will be a bit of a shame not to be able to see it myself, but have never really considered anywhere else. Maybe I should?
Design: Originally, a spider - to look like it's crawling up my back. Junked that idea due to boyfriend (at the time) and best friend both being Arachnaphobes. Decided it was probably my fate to spend my life surrounded by people who would hate it, and that wasn't fair on them...
Then thought maybe an Egyptian Scarab beetle instead, but decided they were too stylistic to look like they were convincingly crawling... :hmm:
Liked the Eye of Horus symbolically watching my back, but was put off when I realised how many naff companies, corporations and computer games used it as a logo! :9529:
Then thought of a tree frog. My parents have a holiday chalet in France that I go to a lot (as often as I can get away with, frankly - hurray for easyjet) and I saw a few of them there. Very small and bright green and very very cute. I’m still considering that, but sadly haven’t seen any for a good few years and wonder if they’re not so relevant to my life anymore...? :wave_cry:
For the same reasons as the tree frog (though not *quite* so cute) is a Gecko. Again, not so prolific as they once were, but we still have a fair number of them living in the chalet roof or the garden shed. If we go out for an evening and leave the outside light on, the moths flock around it, the Gecko basks under the light and snaps up a tasty snack while he’s at it. An expansion to this tattoo could be a moth fluttering across one shoulder...
Finally, when my brother John died (almost 4 years ago, now - blimey, time speeds by with no flipping regard, doesn’t it?!) I thought I’d get a tattoo of his name. Maybe with mine and my other brother’s, too. He was quite into the Ramones and I’d bought him a cd and a t-shirt a couple of years before he died. I’d bought myself a vest-top with the Ramones logo on it at the same time and wore it to the funeral, and I ended my funeral speech with a lyric of theirs. He was probably into a dozen other bands just as much, but I personally hold a strong association of them with him. Because their logo has the name Johnny at the top, I thought it would be fairly easy to adapt it to our own names. I’m stuck about what to do with the eagle logo in the middle, though. Not too keen on the USA-tastic-ness of it, and not sure how it could be adapted to be more personal. Maybe a gecko instead of an eagle? Maybe I’m going a bit bonkers, now...!? :ignore:
So there we are. Those are my thoughts. Looks like it could well have to be two separate tattoos! Any thoughts and comments sincerely welcome.
