Sams no excuses diary

Hi All,

Won't bore you all with how I got to this situation, yoyo diet for years, got thin, got fat again got on scales today, about 2 stone heavier then expected, nearly had a heart attack.

So here I am, just turned 32, married, desperately wanting a baby, need IVF due to male factor problems, cant do it while im the size of a small whale, I ideally want 2 children, quite close together and at 35 all the books say the chances of getting pregnant starts to decline so I need to get a move on, everything crossed I want to be pregnant before Im 33.

When we decided we would go for IVF I worked out a savings plan, to work out how quickly we could save the money, super organised! Could probably do with losing a couple of stone I thought before I got on the scales and realised that I was 16 stone... yes sixteen whole stone, what! I honestly thought I would be about 14stone 5lbs... something like that, never expected 16 stone, I know how it happened, because I eat badly and drink lots of wine, plus I gave up smoking so that hasn't really helped and I don't exercise enough. I have lost a lot of weight on exante previously and Ive lost weight healthy eating previously but I want the weight shifted fast so back to exante it is.

Anyway my savings plan says we will have enough money by July, 5 months, so that my goal, I don't have a weight I want to be by then, ideally around 11 stone I guess.

Can lose a great chunk by then and as you probably know any weight loss is in the right direction towards getting pregnant - well done to you being so organised about planning your savings.

I'm sure you can apply that same determination to weight loss and get down to somewhere you're happy with! Keep us posted!

Hiya, good luck, I'm starting Exante tomorrow with my hubby. I have 7 stones to lose by end of June ideally... Not sure if it's even possible but I will try my best!

Sam, I was the same as you, I stepped on the scales after 5 years ! expecting it to be around 15st 2lbs and it was 17st exactly :(
This diet is going to be easy with IVF as your motivator because everytime you feel like its too hard, you'll remember your goal.. and all you can do is your best. You can do it !

1st week nearly done, I started on Monday but I am going to weigh tomorrow as during the week I struggle for time some mornings, so far so good, haven't been 100% every single day but it has been the case of a couple of skittles or a crisp someone offered me, so not a whole meal off of plan.

Only had 2 meals I didn't really like, the lemon and raspberry shake and the spag bol, have stayed away from the other dinner meals since the spagbol but do need to use them so will try one tonight

I've been putting a lot of thought into when I get to or near my goal weight because that's where I fell off track last time, I went from eating next to nothing and for a few months my portion sizes were small as I couldn't eat a lot, but then gradually got bigger and bigger, then the drinking snuck back in (not daily but would drink at weekends), then the take aways came back and the snacking and the pounds came flying back on, I didn't follow the plans they suggest, I just tried to eat better but that didn't really work obviously as Im back here at the same weight I originally was.

So my plan is to lose as much as I can on total solution until the end of June and then follow each step exante suggest for a month, the first plan is 1000 cals so I should still lose weight on that, then the next is 1200cals, then 1400cals, then 1600cals, the 1600cals is probably where I will have to try and stay around to maintain, the odd take-away or drink isn't going to pile the pounds on, my problem was that I was over drinking during the week as well as having the odd take-away or night drinking, a calorie calculator says I will need 1772 calories a day to maintain 10 and a half stone so if I could stick to 1600 calories for 6 days a week I would have 1000 calories "spare" if I did want to eat naughty or have a few drinks (not that I'll be drinking when Im doing the IVF anyway), sounds easy huh? hmm hehe we will see.

I will have to check with the clinic but hopefully I can start IVF on 1400 calories, if not I will shorten the time I'm on 1400cals and go onto 1600/1700cals quicker.

Lost 8.5lbs this week, happy with that but a bit miffed as I lost 12lbs the first time I did exante but then I have always struggled to get the same big loses as some seem to get even when I am 100%.

Had the sausage mix stuff this morning... hmm the taste was ok but its just the texture I struggle with, had the blueberry smoothie for lunch and once I got passed how purple it was, it was really nice, think Im going to stick with the sweet stuff now
 
Perhaps you didn't have as much glycogen stored this time? 8.5lb is still amazing! Well done, and good luck for week 2 :)
