Skiing

Just wondered if anyone could give me any advice, guidance etc re skiing. Boyfriend wants me to learn as hes a continental coach driver an does a lot of ski trips. I've never skied in my life, and am terrified. I know I've got good balance as have ridden horses all my life but even so!!!

What would I wear for lessons? I've had a look on t'interweb and only 'plus sized' ski wear goes up to an 18!!!!!! and I'm about a 24/26 on top and 22 on bottom.
Also is there a weight limit for skiing? Bf reckons not as he was 23+ stone when he started, and I'm lighter than that, but still a bit concerned that I might be too heavy for skies or something!!
Thanks xx

I would love to go skiing, the family are thinking about for nxt year :-D do you live any where manchester? You could try the chill factor x

Yeah, well I live in North Wales(so only about an hour away)were hoping to go, but obviously alot of these questions will need answering before I could go there! :) x

Yeah they could answer the weight limit one I guess, but the other will only come from personal experience I spose x

Have scoured the Internet an there doesn't appear to be any weight restrictions listed for skiing so I may be ok-it's just the clothes I have the issue with. I've found a website that does proper plus size kit, but we're talking £150 a go, so I'm not paying that, especially as a)I might not be any good, and b) by the time I will be able to afford my passport to go on a skiing holiday I hope to be several stone, and hopefully a few clothes sizes smaller :)

Hey, I have only being skiing once, so don't claim to be an expert, but as far as I am aware there are no weight restrictions. I was a size 18 at the time. The only one I could possibly think of are for the ski lifts, but really not sure.

I struggled finding ski clothes to fit. Have you tried any plus size websites, rather than sports shops?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm a bit worried about the ski lifts too-but boyfriend has reassured me I'll be fine. Have searched the internet and as I said in the first post, all the 'plus sized' ski wear only goes upto size 18, unless I buy from USA in which case you're talking $150 upwards for just a jacket, which is a total joke!!!! :( almost feel like its not meant to be x

People of all shapes and sizes go skiing...fingers crossed you find something.

This might be a daft question but can you not just get a thickish pair of track suit trousers and a jacket to start off with? Then if you enjoy it you could look into getting the gear when you are nearer your target? Or enquire at the ski slope place? They might do hire of skiwear. Also eBay might be a place to look or local free cycling type groups. No point spending a load of cash to only need to replace it shortly anyway IMO...

Thanks-they do have clothing hire but only in regular sizes! Hence my dilemma :( I am not willing to pay a lot I money for something I probably won't be any good at anyway lol x

From what I saw from a bit of a look around eBay they pretty much appear to be tracksuit like stuff anyway. I'd go for something substantial fabric wise just because of falling hurting.
