struggling :(

Hello, I started the diet on step 2 and my losses are really slow, they have only been a 1lb - 2lb a week and now for the past 2 weeks I have been stuck at the same weight :( it's so discouraging since i've stuck to the plan 100% I haven't even exercised much cause I was scared it would slow my losses, I have only walked twice this week.

I weight myself today and i've gained a pound, the only thing I can think of is im drinking too much water as i've been having over 5 litres a day or im having a reaction to the coke zero, I drank it last week and i've had about 4 pints in 2 days this week, could this be it?

Also I really want to exercise, I used to exercise really hard before the diet so i'm used to it, but numbers on the scale matter to me, will I see a loss here as well as inches? If I exercise should I eat a bit extra? I just don't know what to do anymore

That does sound a bit odd, but lets not forget pounds are pounds, I have seen threads on here that say the differences between step 1 and 2 are very small if anything. The Coke is supposed to make a difference , my CDC said no more than 1 can a day (preferably not everyday), so 2 pints a day is probably too much, try a week with no coke. You can either stick with it a couple more weeks and see if it improves, possibly move down to SS just to see if it kickstarts the losses a bit more, or maybe a different diet would be better for your lifestyle and wanting to do a lot of exercise.

I wouldn't have thought the water would make a difference, the consensus always seems to be the more the better.

Good luck, I am sure you will have a bigger loss next week.

PS.... quite a few people on here exercise with no adverse effects. I believe the guidance is you shouldn't introduce alot more exercise, but you can carry on doing a moderate amount if you did it anyway.

thank you for replying, i'm nervous of changing diets as nothing else seems to work for me, I know people say eat more to lose weight but for me when I tried that I just gained, also would ss not be too small an amount for my bmi right now? I'd be fine with exercising, I was only going to do moderate exercising anyway, like power walking etc, i'll try going with no coke and just stick to water, see what happens

You are right, SS probably is too much with your BMI (I hadn't spotted it). That would also explain the slower losses, you lose less the nearer to goal you get. Perhaps moving up a step will help, my CDC occasionally told me to have a higher week when my losses stalled and it did work. I hope you find the right balance for you.

I would definitely cut down on the Coke Zero. I used to drink a lot of fizzy water the first time (no citric acid) and as soon as I stopped, my weightloss restarted. I still have a glass of fizzy water/Coke 0 here and there to fight hunger pangs, but that's all.

Also you're already in a healthy BMI range so your losses will be slower. The closer you get to goal, the less you lose but the more it shows. Losing 2lbs at your BMI will show a lot, losing 2lbs when your BMI is 35 won't show much.

I know it's frustrating but don't lose heart. I think Chlo's advice is good: try to go up a Step, it might boost your losses. And if you're used to exercising, I'd certainly keep doing it (maybe not intensively though) as it'll help with inch loss too.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress :)

That must be so demoralising. There is a sticky at the top (sorry don't know how to link) called exercise on a VLCD -my CDC has checked and told me it is fine to carry on with any exercise I was doing (although be careful for first 2 weeks and listen to what my body is telling me) but not to start any new exercise. Given how close you are to your goal and starting at an already healthy BMI suddenly stopping a significant amount of exercise will probably not help either - your body was used to it. Going up a plan might help like the others have said. Good luck

so what your saying is in my case, exercising might actually help me on this diet cause my body was used to it? If I was to start exercising I would like to start running again, obviously not sprinting but keeping a moderate pace? Would this not slow my weight loss down? I can't stop worrying that it will! Or would this only apply if the exercise was new to me?

its difficult to say - ask your consultant what she thinks. I know I haven't cut back on any exercise i was doing - but I haven't added any more either!!
