The "no weigh every day" challenge

OK, i'm a daily weigher. I HAVE to jump on the scales every morning. Most days i also weigh last thing at night too. Midweek my weight seems to go down only to go back up and end the week with a smaller loss. It's frustrating, and i know it's only water weight and i shouldn't be weighing every day.

As ridiculous as it sounds, going a whole week without weighing sounds near-on impossible, it's become like a true addiction. If i don't weigh myself immediately after waking up i sit there thinking about the scales and biting my nails, it's got that bad.

So i thought i'd create this topic to try and challenge myself to have a whole week away from the scales, celebrating each day at a time. I hate to have this habit as it really does me no good, and i've been doing Atkins long enough now to know that the losses are steady as long as i weigh at reasonable intervals.

Tuesday is my weigh in day, i weighed this morning at 14 stone 7. My target is to not weigh until next Tuesday. Not sure if i can make it. If anyone wants to join me feel free, see if we can make it a whole week without weighing!

I'm not on Atkins but doing a mix of Slim and Save and low carb, and two days ago decided I wasn't going to weigh every day, but wait at least a week or preferably til the end of the month, if I can stand the suspense. I find in the end that weighing every day can set me up for mind games which might work on more conventional calorie deficit diets but can be death to ketosis..... I've made out a basic structure for eating every few hours, which encompasses the creamy (home made vanilla protein and almond milk shake) and the chewy (flaxmeal bread with philly or a MIM) and a protein and veg meal, and two of the S&S packs. I look on each day as the first day, as I heard someone else was successful by doing that, and this means I don't feel there is any weight loss to check on - but am already feeling the benefits so hoping it will work! Happy to run with you and see how long we can go without weighing, even if only weekly :)

Well i failed already, how pathetic is that.... lol .

Shame about that! I think you've got to be in the right head space for so many things on this journey, and you can never be sure when you wake up each morning if you'll still be there (in the head space I mean :)) For myself, I need to think out and convince myself of the benefits in not weighing too often - but that doesn't mean to say I'll be in the same mind about it next week.

We seem to have similar stats - same height, same current weight, more or less same goals, though I've been heavier than you at your starting weight. So still happy to run with you! x

Yes you are right about the whole mindset thing. I was in the right mindset for dieting for the beginning of 2012 and lost loads, then wasn't really in the right place at the end of 2012 and lost very little. Now i'm back on form again and losing. But not in the right place for avoiding the scales it seems, lol.

Well done on losing so much weight, it feels great doesn't it? :) I have never lost this much before in my life, before now i've always gained and lost the same one or two stone, and now i'm at the smallest i ever remember being and can't wait to get down to goal, hopefully this year!

You know hun I wouldn't stress about a daily weigh - it's only advised against so it doesn't send people off the rails if they show a gain.

You're in focus and doing well, and you know that it all evens out at the end of the week xxx
