Treat Night - Do you do it? What do you have?

I know that a lot of people in my group consider weigh-in day "treat night" and after weighing they go and have fish and chips or pizza or a Chinese and in their minds it's like syns don't count on that day.

When I did Slimming World before I used to do the same thing, have whatever I wanted on weigh night. This time round though (I'm three weeks in) I really want to do really well so on "treat night" rather than having whatever I want I just have the full 15 syns.

I figure, syns are still syns and I know some people say that it doesn’t affect their weight loss but I think, how do you know it doesn't? You might have lost another half a pound if it hadn't have been for treat night! However, I do think the concept of treat night is an important one as it’s good to feel like you are treating yourself when you work so hard all week.

So I have decided instead to just have all 15 of my syns on treat night instead. I never have 15 in a day normally (it ranges from 6 – 10 at the most) and I also never have any syns on the day I weigh in until I get home so to have a whole 15 as part of my dinner and dessert IS actually a treat!

Now, it’s weigh in day today – what to have

Last week I had garlic and chilli pasta (with 1 tbsp and 1 tsp of olive oil from my syns to fry the garlic and chilli), a side salad with salad cream and the a toffee crisp biscuit mixed in to a toffee muller light! It was heaven! Grand total – 15 syns

My OH has a personal trainer, who is lovely, but he thinks it's important to have one night a week where you have something you fancy even if it's not that bad, because otherwise you might get stuck in a rut or crave things more, even just to shock your body into going "Ah, what's this!" and mix it up. Obviously if you don't fancy anything bad then that's great, and people succeed equally as well without cheat nights which is fantastic, but other people need them.

Personally I found it difficult to keep one night to just one night, hence why I'm back again! But this time I think I've found a nice balance, I'll have something small, even if it's bad that I've been lusting over all week, if you fancy a Chinese it doesn't have to be a blowout, just one dish that you really like.

I do agree with you though, who's to say we wouldn't have lost another 1lb if we hadn't have had a night off, but I'm in this for the long haul, healthy for life, so if it's a 2lb loss rather than 3 because I've had a small pizza, then that's better than a 2lb gain a month later because I've had a huge pizza!

I agree with you! It's definitely important to treat yourself. In the past, like you say, I struggled to not let treat night slip into "treat weekend"! I'm quite enjoying deciding what to do with a whole 15 syns on a treat night. TonightI think it's going to have to be chocolate as I've been itching for some this week. I wonder how much I can have for 15 syns!

I don't go all out on weigh-in night, but if there's something I've been wanting all week but it's higher in syns than I'd usually have; then I'll have it after weigh in. Perhaps a slice of pizza and chocolate or even a slice of cake and a cuppa. Depends on how I feel. It's not every week but you've got to enjoy things every now and again. It doesn't usually effect my weight loss but it's different for everyone.

I dont find i need more than my normal daily syns to have treats im never hungry on SW and feel so much better an i ever did before

So far I'm having one day off a week, usually after weigh in. Got a chippy last week and it was great. But if I stop losing or start gaining I'll have to re-think that. I agree that this is a change for life, not a race to get to a certain weight for me. I know that if I have a treat now and then I'm much more likely to stick with it. Although I agree with elvisfan, most non-treat days I struggle to use my syns now I've cut out the Coke.

M syns are all used on treats though choc or white choc chewy bars love em

I have a galaxy ripple with my name on it for my treat night this evening after I've been weighed! Might even have a glass of red too which take me to my 15 syns!

I posted this on another thread, but I have what I call a "treat" (wine mostly) after WI, but I calculate it into my syns for the next week (I add up my syns weekly). That way I still feel that I have "rewarded" myself, but I am still sticking to plan. Now that I have written it down it sounds stupid, but it has worked so far!

I treat on Tuesday. I do syn it

Usually some biscuits or white crusty rolls

I'm then mostly syn free rest of the week xx

Doesn't sound stupid at all!

Didn't realise you could add up syns weekly - that would make weekends much easier!

I don't do "treat night" as it tends to turn into "treat week".

I find it much better just staying on the straight and narrow, or if I have an occasion coming up when I know there might be a blow out I prepare by restricting myself beforehand.

I've just had a massive treat weekend at a festival where I had beer, wine, nachos, cake ..the lot!! I have found getting back on the straight and narrow afterwards really hard even though I was mega motivated beforehand. It's taken me a full three days to get my head back in gear after all the goodies.

Despite all of that somehow I managed to STS. I nearly fainted in shock when I got on the scales this morning!!

I stick to it 100% and only very occasionally (maybe once a month) have a night off when I go for a meal or have something massively off plan! Tomorrow night in off to a friends for a girly night where they'll be a Chinese takeaway and lots of wine with my name on it! I'll stick to plan all day but then have what I want in the evening. Back to it Saturday morning with a big SW fry up!

I don't have a treat night, I get quite a lot of treats out of my syns anyway. If I do feel like a treat I'll have something I haven't had for a while but I still syn it, like maybe keeping the fat on my bacon or having 'real' sausages. I know, party animal right? ;)

It's not officially approved of by SW, but quite a lot of people do it. There have been several threads on here about it, and the general consensus seems to be that it's okay unless you notice your weight loss slowing down/stopping. It works for me, but might not for everyone.

I don't do treat night. I don't do saving syns either - if I don't use all my syns one day I lose them and start afresh the next day. I have stuck to this 100% and STILL put on two occasssions, 0.5lbs each time, and I dread to think what those gains would have been if I'd had a pizza!

On WI night I don't eat any syns during the day and then treat myself with a options hot choc and a curly wurly in the evening :)

Different things work for different people though and it's up to everyone to decide what works for them.

I flexisyn pretty much every week, I WI saturday morning so either have a night out or a bit of a treat night on saturday. Generally I use about 45-60 syns, if i'm going out its alcohol but otherwise I usually have some chocolate and some sweets. Someone people may see if as a waste but I find I don''t really need syns as much in the week :)

Sometimes if I REALLY want something then I will go to about 20 syns but the next day I would just have a max of 5. I wouldn't have one massive splurge day as that doesn't seem to work for me although it works for others. I would want to get another stone under my belt (or rather OFF my belt) before I start experimenting with what I can get away with.

My 'treat' is a few vodka's on a friday and / or saturday night, mainly because whenever i've dieted before it's always taken over my life and this time i really don't want it to. If i get to goal a bit slower because of it i can honestly say i'm ok with that - long gone are my days of sitting at home scared to go out in case i gained!!
