USA SLIMMING WORLD

I'm off to Long Island for 4 weeks with work and was wondering if anyone knew of any free or healthy extra foods that I could have there? For example, any equivalent to Quorn or Alpen Light cereal bars?
Please help!!

Have a look on the SW overseas forum.... Britmum has done a long list of US/Canadian foods.

it won't let me pm you as i've not posted enough apparently! is it too dangerous to post my email address on here?! x
Yeah- don't post on a public forum

I added you to my contacts- don't know if that makes a difference, otherwise try and find me on Facebook (claire pratt, wigan) and send me a message that way?

Just post a bit more, go over to the fun and games area and post on there for 13 more posts then you'll be over 50 and your pm'ing should activate

cocktail princess is it the sw online list you are going to send?

As to be honest they are not very good, just list basic foods mainly, which anyone doing SW will already know.

The healthy extras list has a small handful of items, but thats it.

If you check out the overseas section, I have sourced and been adding foods as I discover them.

Claire I have just Facebook messaged you - well hoping it is you!!
Have checked out Brit Mums;s info - thank you! BritMum - do you know of any equivalents to cereal bars that count as healthy extra's? xx

Oh dear- no message on Facebook (some random woman is going to be very confused- lol)

Given what Britmum has said (as they are from SW online) they are rubbish anyway! Maybe stick with her thread as she actually knows the score

:D

Kashi Dark Chocolate and Coconut bars, are a HEb (just 1)

I think a few of the other Kashi bars are too, will need to check.

we dont have a great deal of cereal bars available to us to be honest. That I know of anyway.

I'm sure cereal bars will be easier for you, but if you're going to be staying at someone's house, get yourself some decent cereal. I'm currently in love with the Fiber One honey clusters. I eat them EVERY DAY. I don't eat them with milk. Just mix them in my yogurt (good luck with finding free yogurt). For an added punch, my breakfast consists of honey vanilla greek yogurt (0% fat) and 1.5 oz (not sure what that is in grams) of the fiber one. The protein in the yogurt and fiber in the cereal keep me going for a LONG time. There are syns in the greek yogurt - but completely worth it.

The US also does a very nice breakfast. If you can avoid the pancakes and other sugary things, you can probably find a really decent breakfast.

At the end of the day, I don't really eat a lot of convenience food so I'm probably not much help! Stock up on hi-fi bars and bring them with you. You should be able to find lots of fresh fruit and veg. Blueberries are particularly good right now!

Also, low fat cheese sticks are great. I take those with an apple and yogurt for a quick snack. And it counts as your HEXA.

I suppose by the time you have US food handled, it will be time to go home! Drop me a line if you need specifics. It really is do-able over the pond. I'm doing it!! Good luck to you!

Oh, and we have quorn but you will pay out your *ss for it!! One bag of mince (where I live) is $6.57!!

Can you tell me if you will be making most of you meals? I can definitely help you in that department! It's pretty rare that I use syns on the food I eat - and I eat a lot. :) So I know lots of free food that you can probably get!

Jenni o turkey products are mostly 1/2-97% fat free...they carry a ground turkey which I use to make spag bog tastes great and I still lose weight. You can find it in Walmart and Sav-A-Lot. Hope this helps.

Sorry but I think jenni-o Turkey Bacon is HORRIBLE. Louis rich is much better. Up to u to decide.

And if u can find ground Turkey breast it is AWESOME! really versatile and tastes great in place of ground beef! But it Can be pricy. Maybe $5 a lb or so. But worth it in my opinion.

Ground round and ground sirloin are the leanest mince u Can get. Ground round is cheaper But 93% ff. Ground sir is 95% ff. I think. For the price ground round is the way to go. A lot of restaurants offer ground sirloin on the menu. Its a fancy Burger so don't get too excited about It!

U might find a wealth of new things to try. Who knows! Post on here When u get there if u have questions!!
