Is there a vegan sub forum please?
*waves*!
I'd like to try vegan for a week as a little challenge! Looking forward to reading your diaries for inspiration![]()
Wow that's an amazing commitment, well done! There's a great 30 day vegan challenge on the Viva! website here 30 Day Vegan | Viva! with loads of tips to get started. I'd stock up on healthy extra A essentials like the different milks (all have different quantities depending on what you like and how much you will use - Oatly is my favourite, super creamy!) and most soya yogurts are 2 syns a pot - Alpro ones are probably the best but I also sometimes buy Tesco free from lemon soya yogurts too.
Good luck!
Vegan here
SW is super easy once you get into a routine. It took me a few months to really start loosing and getting into a rhythm...I don't really use soy milk for anything so my 'A' choice is always chocolate oat milk, heated in the microwave each night for a hot choc. 'B' choice is bread and nuts usually.
Wow, thank you so much for this amazingly helpful and supportive post! I am so excited to try something new! Whenever I tell people about it, their reaction is always "but what will you eat?!" I've made a list of meal ideas on my phone that I keep updating whenever I think of something and when I show it to them, they're always surprised at the amazing stuff you can eat with a little imagination.
What different vegan-friendly milks are you allowed on SW? I've tried soy and almond milk before - I preferred the latter! Must try the oatly milk too - is it in the fridge sections or with the UHT milks?
I must try that, sounds like quite a nice treat as I noticed that vegan friendly choc isn't as easily available as normal choc!
Looking forward to the challenge!! xx
Are you a member? If so, the healthy extra list online is super extensive with A choice milks - I find it is trial and error with what tastes nice and how much milk you will get through as some brands you can have almost a litre of a day. I find the best one is Oatly which is in the long-life section - Tesco stock it, and as mentioned they also do Chocolate Oatly which is also an A choice and that is an amazing hot-choc alternative. The next best one I like is Koko dairy free coconut milk, again that is also longlife and Tesco also stock this. Tesco is the best supermarket for free-from stuff - you can get Tesco dairy free chocolate buttons (around 7 syns a bag - the white ones are the best!) and quite a lot of dark chocolate is vegan - just look out for sneaky butterfat in brands like Lindt, Tesco also has a good chilled free-from section including cheeses (my favourite is the medium flavour and 35g counts as a healthy extra B). You can get some good frozen items in Tesco - their soya mince is completely free and they do a 2 pack of 3 bean and red pepper burgers at 3.5 syns each. You can even get dairy-free ice cream, cheesecake, creams and custards in Tesco
My staples are things like dried soya mince, tins of beans (borlotti/cannellini/black eye etc), tins of chickpeas and green lentils, tins of Chickpea Dahl (free!), brown rice, wholewheat pasta etcBeing vegan is sooo easy, when you get in to the hang of it you'll be flying
