Ooops nope unfortunately not Ste, I was playing about with bmi's, guess I should change it back!!

if makes you feel better leave just thought why you thinkin of going under the knife

I've battled my whole life with my weight Stephen... I have tried everything to lose weight & at some things (always low carb) I have succeeded in shifting alot of lbs.. my problem is maintaining my weight loss... admittedly the worst times were when I fell pregnant.. I put 7 stones on with Jacob & then finally lost it & 4 years later put on 8 stone with Amalie.

I have suffered with really bad polycystic ovarian syndrome since 14yr old, then I got insulin resistance & now diabetic, all of these on their own can cause weight problems.

When I enquired about wls I was at my heaviest. my lowest mentallywise & was looking for my last resort of help!! I then got diagnosed with diabetes, got put on medication & watching my carbs & things felt under control again.

I have questioned about wls all of this time I have been on Atkins wondering if this could be the time it stays off, if this could be the time I stick to it & manage to maintain but I also know I have felt like this before!!

My thinking is that no matter what avenue I take I will have to low carb for the rest of my life... wls could give me a huge boost to getting to where I need to be much quicker... PLUS & its a HUGE PLUS it could reverse my diabetes & insulin resistance & thats a major health benefit!

So there you have it... my wls heart on a sleeve. xxx

Linzi just reading that makes me think that wls isnt necessarily the way to go for you.
Wls will make you lose the weight quicker but it wont reeducate your eating habits the way Atkins does which means you will still have problems maintaining it.

Although I could be talking complete rubbish (I have been known to do that on occasion, lol) but its just what popped into my head reading your last post.

Thanks Jo... it does help to re-educate you tho because you can't eat high sugars as they make you dump (come out one end or the other , give you the shakes, hot & cold flushes & generally feel very unwell of you eat too much) this happens for the first 12-18 months after surgery then it starts ti diminish (although in some people it doesn't). It is also encouraged to eat high in protein as it helps with the healing, keeps you feeling fuller & doesn't mean you lose muscle... so in a way its like Atkins but with a tool that means you can't stray especially in the first year.

The main focus for me is the reversal of diabetes & the insulin resistance!

Thank you for your comments.. its really great to hear what you guys think so it makes me think of answers to questions that I wouldn't neccesarily think of & research that bit more. xxx
