Morning all! Was just checking in to see if Linz is home yet? I hope so cos she'll be happier there :) xx

Wow guys... what a welcome home!!

Thanks for keeping my diary lovely & warm while I was away! Even it did turn a bit smutty with all the get yr puppies out for the boys talk!!

I'm doing really good thanks... far better than I ever expected to be & much better than the others on my ward, I'm a tough old boot!! By the end of my stay I was fixing everyones tv's & filling up their water jugs.. one of the nurses said I made it more like a sleepover at a mates house than a ward full of people who'd just had major ops!

I'm just at the moment trying to get 42g of protein down my neck in a protein vial... no wonder they call them [STRIKE]viles[/STRIKE] I mean vials, they are pretty rank but protein & fluids are great for healing after ops so I'm just thinking of it as medicine & thankfully it'll only have to be one a day!

So much to tell you about my amazing journey so will post more........

P.S did I tell you all how bloody amazing you all are & how much I love you??? Coz you are all fabulous & I loves ya heaps. xxx

So 9th September 2010

We arrive at the hospital at 0700 & enter the Chichester suite (like a hotel lobby) I was then told that although I was the first one there I would be the last one down for my op, this brought a tear to my eye, why say that I'd be first... anyway was shown to the ward & went to say hi to my friend Helen who had her op on the Weds (she's from another forum) then I was checked in so to speak.... it was then explained to me that they like to keep the straightforward cases til last & b'coz I was so simple  thats why I wouldn't go down til about 1430.

I chatted with some of the others on the ward & decided that I would lie on my bed & have a snooze... nurses couldn't believe I was that chilled out that I could sleep, more like I was bloomin' knackered!!

So I go the shout about 1330 that I needed to get gowned up, OMG they were huge... I could've parachuted with them they had to tie them around me twice but when you see the size of most of their patients you see why they have to be so big! I was as dry as anything as I hadn't had any liquids from 2230 the night before & was pleased to be off so that I could finally drink the otherside!

We headed down to theatre at 1400 & when they opened the doors to the theatre the place was rocking.... an amazing sound system, the new Simply Red/Mick Hucknell song was playing (not sure what its called) & then on came fly me to the moon... once you get on the table there are loads of people attacking you from all sides so yr completely distracted & then Zzzzzzzzzzz.

After the op has finished I was taken to the recovery room & left to wake up... I woke with the most almighty pain in my chest & across my back, I later found out it was wind, they pump you full of gasses & fluids whilst on the 'slab' & it bloomin' hurts! Paul had been caleed at 1615 so my op had only taken 2 hours & I was back out of recovery & on the ward by 1730, there were loads of people on the ward when I came too as it was visiting time & then I saw my lovely hubby walk in... that was a sight for sleepy eyes, I think we managed about a 30 min conversation in the whole time he was there as I kept falling asleep mid-sentence! That night was a complete blur as I had to have a big dose of piriton as I had a reaction to the morphine & was terribly itchy especially on my nose so I was out for the count!

Friday I woke refreshed, had my catheter, morphine drip & ops cannula removed so all I was attched to was my fluids which was fab so that I could get up & move around... I wobbled off to have a shower as I was incredibly dizzy, but felt hugely better for it afterwards. Not much pain friday apart from this bloomin' trapped wind but the did give me a sponge on a stick which I could have water on & it was pure heaven!! I progressed to free fluids later in the day & was really nervous about my new tummy but she did me proud!

Saturday I was allowed some soup, its was rank tasted like watered down hot mint sauce but then later I was allowed 2tbs of cheesey mash potato & I swear it was the best thing I have ever tasted!! By 1500 Sunday I was back home with my super excited kids!

At the moment I have to eat approx every 2 hours & the most I can have is 2tbs of pureed food, I also can't drink for 30 mins after eating so getting enough liquids down during the day is proving my biggest challenge!

I have 6 little patches on me.... one between my breastbone & 5 in a line below that, its truly amazing how untouched I look from the outside of course on the inside is a completely different matter & I have to remember to take it easy.... so on that nore I'm off for a snooze before Amalie comes back from school at 1300 & will be back to chat later no doubt.

Love to you all & thanks again for everything. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Linz, it's really good to see you home love. :wavey:

Yay! :D

Well done and welcome back Linz! :)

Awww Linz it's great to have you home... you're a star for helping out everyone on the ward :) General anaesthetic always knocks me around for about 2 weeks afterwards and you're wise to have little snoozes while you can.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad.... as you know, so much can be done with tumours these days but it's worrying for everyone concerned. Your Dad will certainly be in my prayers.

Sending you lots and lots of love.... and a very gentle hug
Welcome back xxxx

Linz it is so wonderful to have you back and I am really sorry to hear about your Dad and I will certainly offer a prayer up for him - hope it all turns out ok for him. Love and Hugs to you and yours.
