I conceived my little boy in 2011 using clomid and metformin it worked on the second cycle and now I've got my appointment with the consultant in Sept im looking for ladies in the same boat for a little support

I hear you hunnie...i may be out of the loop now at 43 but i have PCOC and have suffered all my adult life...clomid was my life saver so to speak, if it helps you sweetheart, my first born conceived with clomid is now a very handsome man at the age of 23 with a life and family of his own...PCOC doesn't mean the end...as you will know with you little boy...i have 4 babies 2 boys 2 girls and my youngest i conceived naturally after weight loss....chin up and hang in there :family2:

Aww that good to hear this is going to be are last go now as my dh only wants two children my appointment on the 5 th Sept im soo excited will keep you posted xx

I'm Diabetic, and take Metformin 500mg x2 per day (Used to take 4 per day but I lost some weight and they have lowered the dose). I wasn't aware this could help with conceiving a child? How does this work?

If i can remember it trick your overies in to thinking there younger but i think it only happens when mix with chlomid it three years since i did it last but il ask the question and get back to you xx

Penny, Metformin is given to PCOS'ers because most women who suffer with it also suffer with Insulin resistance as a PCOS side effect. It has also been shown to reduce testosterone in the ovaries lowering the excess hair some women have and it has also been proven to increase fertility for some due to the reduced testosterone.
Was anyone given Clomid when they were around 93kg? My consultant refused to give it until I hit 73kg. I tried to tell him that I had read women who were heavier than me had been given Clomid and it was successful but he said that in the area I live in they had been given strict rules on when they can give Clomid

Heya, im in the same boat, on the fertility clinic they said they cant help me at all, until ive reached bmi 30 (wich for me is 70kg) i was 98kg at the time. i do have metformin wich been upped by the endocrinologist from 500mg twice a day to 850. I also started with orlistat (might be an idea to talk to your doctor about it, its not a miracle medicine, you still need to work for it, but it does help me getting steady weightloss), and joined slimming worl, so working on getting to that 70 kg to get referred back again.
They said that a big reason is that the heavier you are, the more riscs for complications, and they dont want to make that happen. alltough just by loosing 10%, will do wonders for your body and you might even conceive withouth clomid

I'm on Orlistat. Lost about 7 pounds in the first couple of weeks but for the past two weeks I've not lost anything
I am exercising more than I was before I started taking the tablets and I am eating better so I'm not sure what's going on. It's quite frustrating actually! I take 3 tablets of metformin each day, each tablet is 500mg. Today I have just felt really sick all day with a headache Hi Panni

7 pounds is not bad at all tho. Sometimes weight loss slows down, i have weeks now and then when it slows right down and i just feel bloated and off, but then it goes back on track, agree its super frustrating tho. Are you following any weight loss plan?
also make sure you get plenty of fluids, dont know how u you eaten the last days, but if u changed something (less sugar or less caffeine for example) that can give u headache and nausia, oor you just having an off day maybe. Hope you feel better soon tho!
Hiya Panni. Not really following we or slimming world or anything like that. Just eating more fruit and veg and grilled chicken and fish. Had some pasta yesterday though. Still not seen any more of a loss although I don't feel sick now. I'm tempted to come off the orlistat if it isn't doing anything to be honest. Think the lack of sugar in my tea was contributing to the headache but I've gotten past that

its going well here, last two weeks been slightly slower (but still 2.5 pounds together), but have been feeling very bloated and been constipated (tmi sorry), im also considering going off them if i keep feeling like a balloon, got a nurse appointment next week so gonna have a chat to her and go from there. i don't know if it be worth for you trying to follow a plan from home to see if it makes difference, or u could just do a food diary, and maybe some more clever people can spot something you can improve im glad you not feeling sick anymore and ye, coming of sugar sure can be a real headache

I have only just seen this thread.
I have been under the gynae for some time, TTC for 2 years.
My GP finally gave me clomid last night and my BMI is well over the 30. It has been made clear that IVF won't be available until I get my BMI down and I have had to show them that I am losing weight.
I'm now taking 2 x 500mg metformin per day and I have tarted my first cycle of clomid - took my first 50mg tablet yesterday (CD3) so will see how it goes. Suffering very badly with side effects from the metformin but will keep going .
Although I get AF naturally every 6 weeks I have not been ovulating so just hoping that clomid does the trick

i was devastated when i was told i have to get to bmi 30 (i was bmi 40) but now im acutally ok with it, i feel better have more energy and actually sticking to my diet, and i havent managed that since first time i started dieting more than 10 years ago.
so at the moment im fine with waiting some months, ofc we are still trying and would be super happy if we managed on our own

Hi I haven't posted in this group yet, but I'm in a similar place to you. I have pcos and am current under fertility treatment trying to conceive.
i saw the consultant in December who said I didn't ovulate, but they wouldn't treat me until my bmi was under 30 like you, I am currently at 33 bmi, so she sent me away until July to loose the weight. The catch is that at 31 years old my ovarian reserves are already running very low. So after a lot of crying hubby and I decided to try the private route convinced that the first month of clomid would be the answer. So £1100 down the road we have just tried our first month of clomid 50mg with 1500mg metformin, with absolutely no response. :cry:I cried for days.
now I'm waiting for my next period which could be any when as my cycles are around 50-60 days long and I'll be trying the 100mg clomid. Luckily as our tests are all now down our next month will cost us £500, but if next month doesn't work we can't keep throwing money to the clinic who would happily take thousands off of you without blinking. So I've been told if I can get my bmi down the nhs might be able to help, but the pressure is on as I have a cancellation appointment in 6 weeks and I have nearly 2 stone to loose to get under 30bmi..... So this morning I started on the Exante diet, just had my first shake and feeling good!
would love to hear other peoples stories.

i really feel for you, I am putting all my hopes into the clomid to trigger my ovulation and my worst fear is not responding . I have very long cycles also - 42- 45 days it's such an agonising wait.
Did is you have scans or progesterone blood test to know you didn't respond at all?
Did you get any side effects from the clomid - I've taken it for two days now (albeit at night time) and haven't had any side effects which makes me think I'm probably not responding . It has stopped the awful side effects I was having from the metformin though.

anyway yes I knew I wasn't ovulating because I had the follicle tracking scans done every 2-3 days from day 9 of my cycle. At day 9 they saw a couple of 11mm follicles starting to grow but 2 days later they had shrunk, and then disappeared for the rest apparently this is usual for PCOS sufferers, which is why we don't ovulate...booo!
so this month i'll be trying the 100mg, but if I have the same negative response I've already said I don't want to continue with the clomid but will move onto the Gonal-F injections, which are far more direct at stimulating the ovaries to produce more eggs. the only downside of this is that i'd need follicle tracking (scans) for every month.
As for the side effects, I didn't get any whilst taking the tablets, but then they work by starting a chain reaction within your body. from about day 11 I really noticed I was emotional, and would often cry for no reason at all. I also found I was really tired often falling asleep during the day. and from about day 15 I got a lot of 'ovary cramping' pains, apparently this is quite normal. I read somewhere that the clomid increases the size of the ovaries which causes this pain.
Good luck though, i'd love to hear how you get on.
I'm also taking Royal Jelly capsules - 500mg per day, I read this helps as well.
