Hi Debs, I'm good actually - kind of!
I've had a very tricky couple of years, losing my Dad, caring for my Mum, work, kids, all the usual stuff too. But, 7 weeks ago i had a shock, went for a check up as joints have been so painful (hands and shoulders mainly) and following blood tests and xrays was told that I have advanced arthritis in every joint in my hands! Ah ha, that is why they hurt so much then. Trouble is although i can say that my hands are not fat, so that's not my fault, the truth is, the rest of me is and those aches and pains keep on coming. Then a FBG test and shock horror - type2! Well that floored me, only just above 'normal, but enough to get the label.
So I took stock, saw where I was heading and decided I didn't like it. That i had 2 choices, end up in a wheel chair with all sorts wrong with me or sort my self out. Chose the latter, straight onto a very simple but effective healthy eating plan which includes lots of good protein-rich fish and meat and very few carbs. Then after dithering for a couple of weeks joined the David LLoyd Club, go every day, swim/aqua for an hour and come home again. Have i got time for it? No, but I go because finally i realise that it is NOW or Never.
The weight's coming down my fitness is going up and I feel so, so, so much better. My hands are still awful but you can't have everything. I have cut back massively on pain killers and am on no asthma medication at all. Impressive or what? Can't really believe it is me, but it is. I'm 52 now and I want to have the best of times over the next years, not a steady and early decline into old age.
Sorry life has been tough for you lately, if you need me, you know where I am. PM me, you know I would listen and help in anyway I can. Much love to you Debs, you've been sorely missed.
