Beelishy's VLCD Weight Loss Adventure!!

Hi bee and p

I've been reading along just super busy so not much time to post. I'm with you on the SW thing. Parts of it I really love. Unlimited veggies, encouraging fibre and dairy. Heavily synning sugar and alcohol.

But it loses me when hifi bars are considered a healthy b and avocados are synned but mugshots aren't! I do recognise that no diet is perfect but SW annoys me a bit in that respect.

I do know quite a bit about the body coach actually as I lent my friend the money to do it and she sent me the "personalised" plan. Personalised in inverted commas because I've seen 4 and they're all the same apart from the name in them!

So the principles are:

3-5 HIIT sessions throughout the 90days. This is high intensity interval training and the plan lives and dies by this in my view. You cannot lose weight and slim down unless you nail this. You don't need a gym although I follow the treadmill HIIT at the gym. But you can do a circuit at home eg 30 seconds of mountain climbers, 30 secs burpees, 30 sec high knee sprint on spot rest for a minute, repeat.

In the first 30 days you only have carbs after the HIIT workout. Theory being your body is going to absolutely blitz the carbs you've eaten and burn it off immediately especially if you've done the workout fasted which is encouraged.

The other 2 meals of the day are low carb. And on rest days it's all low carb. Carb meal is eg build up bagel (full size bagel with avo, egg, and heck chicken sausages). The low carb meals are meat and veg or quorn and veg for veggies. No sugar only fruit 2 times per week maximum, no plan for cheats. He says just get straight back on it.

Cycle 2 is about muscle building so weights are introduced and you start having carbs at every meal.

Cycle 3 you lose the carbs apart from after HIIT (I think).

It's funny as a few weeks I've actually followed it eg carbs after my hardcore workout and I've lost weight after 2 months stagnating. Whether that's because I love carbs so much and it feels like a treat that I binge less on weekend I don't know!

But that's a brief overview of the diet. My friends that have done it and nailed the food but didn't take the HIIT seriously gained weight! And I have 2 doctor friends on insta that followed it 100% and they haven't lost weight at all but are a lot fitter.

Sorry about your hip bee - I had a stress fracture in my hip and was limping for months - I really sympathise. Hopefully pysio will have some suggestions.

Hope you figure out a diet plan soon. I never change mine - maybe that's my problem!! Haha

Hi Cat :D

Thanks for that. I had a feeling that its probably something that maybe started out being more personalized but as it grew....isnt so much. Because seriously?! How could it be? There isnt enough time in a lifetime to sit and go over every client/customer's personal details and then put together a plan specifically for them. I wont know that I would ever fork over the money for the plan, even if I DID have it to spare. And then that brings up the point, is the food (although obviously healthy) even an issue? I mean...obviously you cant just do HIIT and pig out on junk. Its counter-productive. But Im sure you could just do HIIT and eat clean (really eat clean) and get pretty much the same results. Surely? Which then begs the question "What do you need him/his book/his plan for exactly!?" - haha and Ive just deconstructed a whole new diet in my head. Im not saying that it doesnt work, Im sure it does. But its probably doable with just the book and HIIT and also probably doable with just HIIT and just eating clean on your own.

Anyway. Regardless, Im not gonna bother with SW. The avocados thing is completely spot on. And I do love that its all about lots of lovely fresh veg and protein and very restrictive with (refined) sugars and alcohol and all that but its kinda got some glaring flaws, in my opinion.

Since I cut out coffee the other day, Ive felt so much better. No lightheadedness or heart racing or jitters or feeling faint.

I was looking at pics last night and I just was so much happier and felt so much better when i was at the lowest I got to on vlcd. Have some packs in the cupboard......:eek::(:D:D:D:D:oops:

I got in the shower this morning and was fine.....bent down to wash my feet and hellsbells if i didnt pull something in my back. So it now hurts to breathe deeply and Ive got serious strain and am basically in agony. Ive also got asda coming with the shopping this morning. HA! That'll be hilarious. I can get into a position on my bed where Im sitting up crossed-legged, with my back against the headboard and semi-hunched over (with my laptop in my lap of course! lol) and its not too bad but then it freezes up and if i breathe too deeply or move even a little bit..O M G - Ibuprofen has been taken and Im just praying it helps.

another freezing cold morning here. It snowed and hailed and rained and was bright and blue and was windy and all sorts yesterday. Who knows what itll do today but it is really like winter is back up here. So cold.

Thanks Cat that's really interesting. I'm still quite keen to try it but don't want to do it half heartedly so I'm going to carry on with S&S for now as I'd like a bit more of a quick fix before I commit to 90 days.
I'm with you both re SW, avocado or mugshot? no contest x

That's exactly it bee the principles are simple. Very clean food - no carbs unless you've worked out. Portion controls are in place though. You lose weight cos you're exercising and not eating junk. In the document you get per 30 day cycle it has pages of the meals you pick from - everything weighed / measured even veg. Probs so they control your macros. There's also two snacks allowed per day - eg weighed nuts, eggs etc.

I think people fork out for it who don't know much about working out and or eating clean. But I follow the principles most of the time eg low carb clean eating no sugar. I've just been a bit scared of regularly adding carbs post workout (I do it on weekends), and I still binge on sugar once a week which clearly is not on plan.

So SW is off the table, does that mean no more group? So I guess it's operation fix bee sore body and find a new plan.

What was wrong with the plan you were doing before SW switch. I thought you were doing great with you 5.5lbs :)

Morning :)

I decided yesterday...well the night before really.....that I would hop back onto VLCD to have a go at shifting the bulk of this once and for all. I also ordered Joe's book which is already out for delivery today. The plan is to get the chub off, or most of it, and then switch to Joe's method - HIIT at least 4 times a week and clean eating. The clean eating bit will be a bit of a struggle because its expensive (how sad is that, right?! why is an avocado £1 but often so are 4 sausage rolls from greggs (ew, we dont eat them. well...hubby does now and then. *shudder*). Anyway. Its pricey and I dont have a GOOD fruit/veg shop nearby. I also dont eat meat so will be having quorn from time to time, but really Im happy with beans. I ate no meat replacements and only beans for years and didnt miss it. Its also a lot more work for me. Hubby and the girls all eat different stuff (*wrings hands* *sobs*) so I make him one thing....myself something completely different and the girls share elements of theirs (ie, oven chips/fruit/veg - but the main bit is almost always different....one will have a sandwich and the other a quesadilla...etc). So now, i will have to add prep to that as well. Still, for good health, its workable.

So thats the (current  lol) plan. And the one im going to try hardest to really stick to because IM BORING AND FRUSTRATING MYSELF with all this chopping and changing. I just want to make some flippin' progress already. So. There. I ordered some more packs from exante as they had a crackin' sale on and its due today. I ordered my beloved pancakes and also some new bars ive not had and also shakes ive not had (1 one of each of the various new flavours) anda couple of the puddings and the "cereal" so I will mix it up a bit. I dont bother with their savoury stuff because it is always gross. Every single savoury thing Ive ever tried from exante has tasted foul. So I dont bother. Just waiting for my time slot text from DPD now. Itll give me about a month's worth, with the 5 days I have left here and then I will see how I go. I may switch to S&S if I get bored of just sweet things all the time. But for now I plan to add in a low carb meal at dinner so the lack of savoury shouldnt be an issue.

Cat, my previous plan, although it was working - or seemed to be - and it was based on actual food, it was very bare bones and relied heavily on cottage cheese which i had gone off of by the end. lol. Its never been my fave thing and it just got to where I was like NO. lol. I also am just completely crap when it comes to diets with food because little extras sneak in and its too easy for me to deviate. Which is what started happening at the end. I started having more toast than I should "but its ok because its wholemeal and from a small loaf". So with this, I can treat it more like medication. Ridiculous, I know. But it works better for my crazy mind.

So Im expecting keto-flu within the next few days. But nothing like what I was having before because Im hoping that was just keto-flu being exacerbated tremendously by my issues with caffeine/coffee. I guess we shall see! if I can get through this first week, I should be totally fine. Fingers crossed! I started yesterday and this morning was down 2lbs - glycogen of course, but that's fine.

Anyway...its bright blue and beautiful outside - but perishingly cold. Absolutely wintery. BRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Good luck with the VLCD beelishy, I totally agree with you on the Exante savoury stuff, it's gross. I also love the pancakes, especially the maple syrup ones. I don't like the chocolate bars as I find they have a horrible greasy feel in the mouth but the choc cookies, especially the mint ones, are lovely. Like you I am crap on diets with food, as I too add in little extras and get totally frustrated with a half pound or pound a week loss. I'm currently doing a VLCD purely as a means to an end as I've got to get as much weight as possible off before an operation, I just see it as fuel rather than food, as a way to get me to where I need to be rather than as a way of life. Not sure yet how I'll manage the maintenance of the weight loss once I've got to where I want to be as I've never managed it in the past, but it'll be a nice problem to eventually have figuring that one out! And yes, it is bitterly cold today and one of the things I hate most about a VLCD is being completely intolerant to cold!

Hi Ticketty! :)

I dont like the "gooey" bars...or at least I didnt when i tried them yonks ago. I tried the red berry one, the double choc and the hot cross bun and the flavour was fine but the texture completely set my teeth on edge. Claggy and just...yeah..almost like theyre greasy. I got the pb one which I think is the same, but Im hoping to put in the freezer and maybe that will be better (if they flavour is ok! otherwise, i wont bother lol) Not sure as i didnt try that with any of the others. Also ordered the strawberry jam bar which sounds nice. I didnt order any cookies. I was worried about those being not really filling. I did fancy trying the mint one thoough. May do next time.

Good luck getting your weight off ASAP and a successful op.

I got to goal but didnt realize it was my goal. LOL. I got to 15st 4lbs and was really happy there but had this niggling voice in my head telling me that I was still fat and it wasnt good enough and to push on to my official goal of 13st. I got disillusioned and life got hectic and just went off vlcd without fully working out what to do next so just gained 3 stone and have been losing the same 5-10lbs since early 2015. Im fed up now and have realized I dont HAVE to be any given size or another. and to aim for where ever I feel good and comfortable. So that's the plan :) xx

DPD is bringing my packs between 2:34 (lol, I love their precise times, down to the minute!) and 3:34 today so food will be pancake for breakfast (the maple are also my fave and I mostly live on them when im doing vlcd....although i do like the berry one from time to time), pancake for lunch and then I will see how I get on. If I need another pack before I have my dinner (scrambled egg whites, 100g cauli rice, 50g broccoli, 1 rasher bacon, 40g mushrooms) then i will have another pancake pack most like...if not, then I will have something new tonight after dinner. ive made my 1st pack and got 4 pancakes out of it. Ive eaten 3 and saved 1 for in case I get picky/peckish. I find if I have pancake(s) all ready I will just have one of those rather than reaching for a boiled egg or a slice of cheese etc.

I have prepped my cauli rice and broccoli and put it in little baggies all portioned out so I can just grab out what i need and get cooking. I also brought the bins in and took out the rubbish, did the breakfast dishes and started some laundry. Keeping busy is good. lol. Ive also started on water. So far, so good.

It sounds like you're really organised and your head's also in the right place which I find is really important for this type of diet. I've been everywhere from a size 12 to a 28 over the last forty years but the majority of it's probably been spent within a stone of where I am now, constantly yo-yoing the same stone on and off, usually before and after some event (holiday, wedding etc.) The only time I got to goal was in 2009 when I lost 5 stone on a VLCD but a month later my husband was killed in a motorbike accident. So needless to say weight maintenance didn't happen when dinner was often a bottle of red wine and a packet of hobnobs.

I think your approach is very sensible, to aim for where you feel comfortable and right for you. Losing a lot of weight is something I no longer have a choice about-I had to get my BMI under 35 to have the op, (full knee replacement) and after I've had it I have to lose as much as I can to get the best outcome and reduce strain on the new joint. The reason I need a new knee at 60 is largely down to years of carrying too much weight, whereas I'm really guilty of usually being motivated to lose weight in the past to look better

The cookies are actually really filling. They take ages to eat as they're pretty dense! I also have the apple and cinnamon porridge for breakfast which is nice. The raspberry one is awful, it's got the consistency of frogspawn. The strawberrry jam bar is really good too. I struggle with drinking enough water though. I work from home so have a litre bottle on my desk to remind me to keep glugging. I also drink the Beanies flavoured coffees which are nice black, the caramel and Irish Cream ones especially. I see Exante are giving a jar of those free this week with orders over £60 :)

Have a good day.

Oh, so sorry about your loss. How absolutely devastating, I couldnt imagine. My hubby and I have been married 12 years this october and as much as he gets on MY BLOODY NERVES and is a complete child and I wonder sometimes what the hell I was thinking.....he is my rock and I would never choose to be without him. The ol goat. We've had some scares and lots of ups and downs over the years (very nearly lost him in 2005 after we'd been married only a year....he was diagnosed with Polymyositis) but I wouldnt want to imagine life without him. *huge hugs*

Im not great on the water front either tbh. I have to make a geinue effort to get it down. Bleh. I got a 3 pack of Avex water bottles at Costco and theyre fab. Ive filled them all and have been drinking them. 1 down and 2 to go.

ive had beanies before and theyre lovely although recently Ive discovered that I cant have coffee. It makes me feel awful and really just doesnt agree with me. So ive taken to not having coffee anymore aside from 1 cup of decaff per day. Ive switched to tea (asda's own brand chai is lovely and twinings green tea with apple and elderflower (i know, no fruit tea. bah! lol) and focusing on the water.

The apple and cinnamon porridge is what I used to make my pancakes out of before they brought the pancakes out. I love it. Its absolutely beautiful. But I did burn myself out. The raspberry porridge LOL! Its vile, isnt it?

I will have to get the cookies next time to try. Sound lovely!

Oi. A knee op. Ive got problems with my pelvis/hip which Im sure is down to being SO overweight my whole life practically and also being overweight while pregnant (which resulted in terrible SPD with both of my girls). Im just in the process of being referred to physio now to see what exactly is going on and if we can help it or sort it and how. So you really have my sympathies there. We take our mobility for granted until it becomes a painful struggle. Like you, this is a huge factor for me wanting to get the bulk of the weight off. I feel dreadful more often than I should. Im only 37!

Thank you, yes it was devastating, we were on holiday at the time, we had so much fun as bikers including doing a 3 week trip in the US on a Harley, so I suppose the comforting thing was we were together when it happened and he died doing something he loved. And yes he drove me nuts at times and like you we'd come through some tough times (I had breast cancer in 2006, amongst other things) But although it sounds a clique I learned a lot about how resilient I was and how to not sweat the small stuff, and how to really see each day as a gift. I met somebody else through friends and although didn't expect it fell in love again, and though I suffered some issues with some friends and family members who didn't accept me moving on I really felt I had to grab this happiness with both hands, and so we got married. Everyone's ok with it now. This guy is the most laid back, in the moment person I have ever known and we both know everything can just be taken from you in a heartbeat so we just really do seize the day and have fun.

Yes, sadly from experience after years of being in denial about my weight the chickens have come home to roost and I now need both knees replaced at a relatively young age. Hopefully physio will help you, but think of me a negative role model! It really will help you so much in the future to get the weight off. My kids are grown up but I have three little grandkids, aged 4,3 and six weeks, with another due next month. At the moment I'm boring nanna bcause I can't run round the park and get down on the floor to play with them, I so want to do all these things once I'm fixed. That's a big motivation for me.

Beanies do decaf ones if it's caffeine that's the issue? I drink fruit tea too despite the citric acid/VLCD no no thing and have never found it affects the ketosis. I love the Twinings lemon and ginger one.

Aww, Im really pleased you found love and happiness again <3 Im not entirely sure if its the coffee itself or the high amount of caffeine. i think its the caffeine because the decaff seems to be fine. i may try theirs!

Im just now having the exante chocolate caramel crunch bar. OH SWEET JEEZUZ. Im seriously going to order some more of these (LOADS) but not until ive tried some of the other stuff. DELICIOUS. SO SO NICE. *oink* hahaha.

Just had a shower and managed not to re-injure my back. WAHEYYYY!!!! :wee:

I forgot that - for some reason - for the first couple of weeks on vlcd I seem to struggle to have a full night's sleep. I either wake up early and/or wake up through the night. Sometimes multiple times.

Been awake since about 3:30 - shall try to get back to sleep now! o_O

Euw 3:30 O_O I hope you got back to sleep Bee!
Good luck with Exante, first two weeks are always going to be the hardest until it falls into more of a routine. I know you can do it! I looked up those Exante Pancakes on their website, they do look good! I'm slightly tempted to buy some just to try even though I have no intention of doing a full on VLCD :p
I think the most important thing is to stick to something - even if it's just dieting through various means for periods of time to make sure you don't get bored of any one thing. So switching between diets isn't actually a bad thing, at the end of the day, calories in, calories out, and throughout you are reducing your overall calorie intake, so no matter what plan you are doing 'at the moment', it will work in the long term. :)
x

Morning :)

I DID get back to sleep. PRAISE BE! hahaha. There are plenty of times when I havent managed to get back to sleep and was dead on my feet by about 2pm! Or have had to have a long nap with Z in the afternoon. lol

I weighed this morning - 248lbs So another 2lbs off. I will leave it now until my actual weigh in on Thursday and just do weekly weigh ins. Its working (of course it is!) and thats fab.

Meant to be going for a coffee with my girls and my friend, weather dependent. It was supposed to be snowing this morning until about 8 or 9 but it didnt. Then it was forecast to start raining. HAhA. So i had pretty much assumed, last night, that we would put it off for another, better day. But, its currently partly cloudy, partly blue sky, breezy and freezing cold. So who knows. If we do go, I will have a cup of tea :)

Oh. Big black cloud rolling in.

My Zoe will be 4 on Wednesday. I can hardly believe it. She is a bit hit and miss with cakes...sometimes she devours a bit and sometimes she couldnt care less and turns her nose up. But her absolute fave thing is cadbury mini rolls. lol. So im going to do the number 4 out of minirolls and decorate them with colourful icing and I got some Hey Duggee stand up cake toppers. We will have her cake on Wednesday and presents and I will decorate a bit for her. Then hopefully next weekend we will do something fun. We had planned to go to a park and little funfair but we'll see what the weather is doing.

Food today:

Breakfast: Exante breakfast cereal
Lunch: Exante chai latte shake and half a cup of scrambled egg white
Low carb dinner: Quorn chicken pieces (75g), courgette and broccoli ( 50g each), mushrooms (40g) on a bed of shredded lettuce. I will cook it sorta fajita style. and top with a tablespoon of fat free fage
Evening snack: Exante strawberry jam bar

Off to figure out what the plan is for today - are we going...are we not?! who knows! lol

Have a nice friday all!

Ok. We are going at 10. So I just had my exante cereal. Its really nice!!! I love cereal but it always gives a stomach ache (the lactose I think, cuz I get the same from ice cream and its quite a common side effect post-surgery) so this was a lovely treat. As long as it doesnt hurt my stomach (which it shouldnt?!) I would definitely order that again. I have another one in the cupboard as well as I had high hopes for it. lol. Woohoo!

Nearly through my first bottle of water - then only 2 to go to complete my 2L. Plus my 3 or 4 teas - that's plenty of liquid intake.

Feeling great and determined like I did before when I was successful - so YAY. Must. Hold. On. To. This. lol

Your doing so well. My Exante pancakes have just arrived so I'm going to try my first ones in a couple of hours. I'm assuming you have milk with the cereal? I'm using you as a guinea pig for all the Exante stuff before I place another order, I want to make use of that big discount!

Well done on another 2lb off, you're doing great. Glad you got back to sleep too. the other thing I hate about the VLCD way of doing this journey besides the being permanently freezing thing is the need to pee about 4 am. So I feel your pain.

Hope you enjoy your outing. It's hail stoning like mad here again with snow on the hills, brr!

Was it the crispy vanilla cereal you had? I like that one too, in fact I think most of their breakfasts are Exante's best meals. I make it with warm water, although it's a bit soggy rather than crispy I think the vanilla flavour comes through more.

Enjoy your day x

I just got back from coffee (ok. i had peppermint tea!) with my friend. Was perfectly fine and not tempted by anything at all.

Gonna have my chai latte shake in a little bit.

Porsche, I hope you like them! And the cereal looks a bit odd because its corn flake looking bits and then loads of white powder. You actually mix it with water, not milk and as Im first pouring the water in - I was thinking "Bleurgh. this is gonna be foul". BUT once youve really stirred it in and dissolved all the powder (which i presume is like protein powder and is very much like sweet, vanilla flavoured milk) it was LOVELY. Not terrribly far off a bowl of frosties (but more vanilla-y) tbh. And it KEPT ME FULL! Holy moly! love it.

So far:

Chocolate caramel crispy bar -YES!!!!!
Vanilla cereal - YES!!

:D

I put Tabby in Rainbows and she's been going for 3 weeks so we decided to order her the uniform now as she seems keen to continue. Now. She is 6 years old and just over 4ft 1in. She's a big girl for her age (of course she is. I'm 5'9" and her dad is 6'5" lol) and is usually in 8/9 and sometimes 9/10 tops and in 8/9 bottoms. So i ordered accordingly. Erring on the side of caution that it may run small. It came today. Tried it on. SHES SWIMMING in it. hahaha. Bless her cotton socks. So Ive said we have to see if we can take them down to the girlguiding shop tomorrow. As its volunteer-run, its got limited opening hours and Im not sure if the hours on the website are current but it says tomorrow 10-12 so hopefully. She'd love to have her uniform for this wednesday.
