BMI and Atkins

do you know if it`s true that Atkins is not recommended for people with BMI lower than 25.
I read somewhere that if BMI is low, people could even put weight while eating high protein and fatty foods instead of loosing.
by the way it`s my day 4 and i am not into ketosis yet.
i am bemused and really disappointed

Hi PD, i've not read that one before and dont see from the science of low carb why it would be true. It is true that the lower your weight the slower you will lose on any weightloss programme (percentages may be similar tho). My DH is now at about 22 bmi and i keep having to feed him extra carbs to STOP him losing any more weight (lol)!

Why dont you start a diary in diary section and post your daily menus - then we can help to check that you haven't got any well known stallers or problems in there.

Good luck!

I agree, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. However, your body may have its own idea about how much fat you should have, and strongly resist any attempt to lower your fat levels beyond that limit, however you try to do it. Your stats say your BMI is edging towards underweight- your body is unlikely to want to take it any further down at this point, for good reason!

In my experience, Atkins works regardless of BMI but it definitely seems to work a lot more slowly if you have very little to lose. Then again, it's probably true of any eating plan. I decided a month ago I wanted to lose another 4lbs and after a month of strict induction I've only lost 2lbs but, still, I have lost those 2lbs so it's working, albeit slowly.

Ha ha ajj, i'm the same, like a snail now losing it but at least i got 2lbs off last week at last.

Gosh i wonder where that theory came from. Strange. Even with a BMI of 25, some people would usually need to lose 7lb to take them to the 22-23BMI which is the actual recommended.
