Body Analysis Scale... Do they work???

As the title says. I really like the look of the body analysis scales that tell you your, fat, muscle, water.

I think when your also exercising to lose weight something like this could be vital as you eventually build muscle, but might feel your not losing weight. Although you feel/look better.

I just want to know how do they really work? Do they work? Are they worth spending the money on?

Thanks guys :)

They're probably not that bad to give you a general idea but are on the whole pretty inaccurate; they measure your fat % by shooting an electric pulse and seeing how quickly it goes through the body (I think!). This can be easily affected by how hydrated you are and probably numerous other factors.

The cheapest way to get reasonably accurate results is to buy some calipers off amazon (only a couple of quid) and follow the instructions carefully to make sure that you take the measurements in the right places.

I have some and I prefer them to regular scales. My body fat percentage has gone down in proportion to the weight I have lost which is encouraging and shows that I am losing fat rather than muscle. I don't think it's 100% accurate but it does give me a good idea which is helpful. It gives me a body muscle percentage but I don't think it is actually possible to work out how much of your body is made up of muscle so I don't think it would be good for working out if you're building muscle or not. Mine also tell me my BMI, my BMR, and bone density which is really useful and converts pounds into kg, and pounds into stones. They're not accurate enough for an athlete or a body builder but I'd say that they're a good estimate for regular people and the information provided can be really useful, I would recommend them. :)
