Born obese , Tomorrow is my New Dawn

I've been under a consultant rheumatologist for nearly eight years. I have to say she's been brilliant and the medication has made a huge difference to how much I suffer from the pain in my joints. I've had operations on both shoulders and will probably have to have one on my hip in the not too distant future. I have steroid injections in my knees and have had in other joints, which sometimes helps a lot, other times not quite as much, its often no rhyme nor reason to how much pain I'm in. Sometimes, in the mornings, I can barely move my hands or wrists! Stress, overwork, totm, lack of sleep all make a difference but I've had times when things are really tough at home, I'm not sleeping well and extremely busy and have little pain, and am able to do quite heavy gardening or housework without suffering for it. Very frustrating, so I sympathise with you. I hope your doctor can help or refer you to someone that can, at least. Long term pain really drags you down. :sigh:

Did you get to Asda or did you end up doing something else today?

Yea my surgeon mentioned injections into my knee, as at the moment he not wanting to do a replacement , but he said that is what it needs,
I'm just hoping the dr can give me some painkillers ,
Have you any suggestions that work that I can ask the dr to prescribe ,?

Yea I did go to asda , only really to get out the house and have a look round , didn't buy as such as would of struggled carrying it home,

I doubt your GP could prescribe the same medication that a rheumatologist could, unfortunately Von. I don't know what the surgeon that did your knee specialised in but I'd go over it all with your doctor and see if you can be referred to a consultant rheumatologist. I was really very fortunate that my doctor knew of a study that was being done several years ago and I am now under one of the leading consultants in this area. There were several reasons why she was particularly interested to study my joints as part of her ongoing research. This led to things being moved on a lot more quickly than would happen in the normal way, just because I had that particular combination of medical problems. I do believe if I'd gone the 'normal' route, I'd be a lot worse off than I am now.

I can't say whether the treatment I've had would be suitable for you, obviously but I'd definitely ask your doctor what treatment might be available, including the steroid injections. They don't work for everyone and I've had them on both knees with varying degrees of relief, so there is no guarantee it will help. I hated being permanently on high strength painkillers because of the long and short term side-effects but at this particular moment, I'm only on a low dose, together with other medication that relieves some of the symptoms.
I've already mentioned use of TENS machine before, which can help some people, but again, that doesn't always work.

I just hope that if you stress that you aren't coping with the levels of pain that you are getting at the moment, your doctor will take further steps to get you any treatment that you need. Sometimes you have to be very persistent!

Evening Von.. Just catching up... Sorry to hear you're in so much pain in your joints. My dad is getting a knee replacement in November. Ouch! Hope you're ok hun xx

Good Morning sis :wavey:,

Sorry we haven't been able to catch up this week as I've been unwell. Can't believe your week off has finished already , time flys doesn't it ? Sorry your back at work so quick, but I've managed to catch up on your diary and am happy that you will be working a 6 hour shift for a few weeks just so you can settle in. Before you know it your next holiday will be here in October :). I hope your docs appointment goes well on Wednesday. Please get him to put `the stool ' thing in writing, that's so important otherwise I think they will chose to ignore it . I'm glad you enjoyed your food this week with Chan. Don't worry bout the gain hun, mine have shot up by half stone, I'm back to 5 stone off, I've lost my 5.5 award :sigh:, I still think I need one more week off, then I will start fresh from Monday 25th, fingers crossed.

Anyway I'm off to update the challenge thread, its Monday morning, lots of good losses coming in :p. Catch up with you later sis. Love ya ! :hug99:

Oh I didn't know they were allowed to refuse a GP's request ? Maybe get him to write it again so that they know how important it is for your health. I can only imagine you must be feeling low, first day back at work after hols is never fun. But I'm sure like always, once your 2/3 days into it, you will find your rhythm again and the up side is its only 6 hours so will go so quick hun :):). Just take it a day at a time and before you know it, it will be Friday again, Chan time :p.

Oh and I hope you have some pain killers with you at work, take them if you start to feel pain :hug99:, I hope you feel better soon sis.

I didn't think they could refuse either, when I looked on Internet it said if requirements can't be fulfilled then you go back on sick leave till they are implemented

...oh yep that sure does make sense, but its a shame they cant accept a simple request. How are you finding it generally since going back, are you enjoying the job ?

Oh no Vonnie :( sorry to hear than hun. But over your career your health must come first. I know when I return to work I will have the same problem. I was even thinking, do I want to go back to branch manager, or just get a staff job to take off the stress. But then the money will not be good. Its a hard decision to make. I think in the long term I will not be able to stick with retail. I see myself doing it for a short while. I have no idea about another career, the only thing that keeps coming in my mind is becoming a SW consultant, but I'm still not sure yet. It's hard for both you and me because retail is all we know and we've done .

What about finding work as a part time manager, like 4 days a week or something ? Do you feel your company will accommodate ?

Kay xx

I don't envy either of you having to make those decisions about work. I'm very fortunate that I don't have to go out to work now but for years I did and just gritted my teeth through it. Once it got that bad, we reconsidered and decided to move house and I'd give up work. We're now a lot nearer where my hubby works, nearer my daughter and the house and garden need a lot less upkeep, so its worked out ok.
As Kay says though, you have to put your long term health first, over any job and if that company won't comply with what you need to continue, their loss.... try and find somewhere that you can still earn decent money but not so hard on your health. I know its not *that* simple but it sounds like you'd be able to get a similar job somewhere the conditions are better.

I made a yummy cheesecake sis, wish I could call you around for a cuppa and some cheesecake :p, I posted pics on my diary, I had 2 helpings, what a greedy bunny I am :D hehe xx

Hi Kay , it's been quite hectic I was in my own this afternoon which wasn't a problem but I had to do a new starter induction , which took 2 hours , due to the fact I had to keep stopping to issue change and refunds etc,
Annoying ,
Got home about an hour ago , just had tea now ready for a bath and bed ,
