C25K and treadmills?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has completed their C25K on the treadmill and gone on to road run?

I walk at 7km/h and run at 9km/h with a 0.5 incline which I've read can help mimic outside conditions,

any advise or comments welcome

It's maybe even safer doing it on a treadmill because there isn't the outside terrain to combat (risk of being injured) and you can record the speed you are doing easily, and set inclines!

I'm going to give it a go soon at my gym, when my knees have settled down a bit (i get flare ups of arthritis) and i'm probably going to start it at 4/6, then repeat the same week on 5/7 with no incline

(thats a fast paced walk at 7, i'm pretty tall and i'm just about breaking into a jog at 7 )

my gym instructor said that 0 is almost a slight decline, and 0.5 is just about flat

I've just looked at your stats, jeezo, your from Ballymena too! I live in Glasgow most of the time but coming home on Monday to see my wee granny! Feels like the minute I plan to come home for once everything reminds me of B'mena! x

I could probably do 7kmph if I didn't have a doddery hip, but yeah its bloomin fast! I prefer to do a slower jog than a really really insane speed walk, 6.5 is my walking limit!

Good luck with it all. Getting my a rheumatic heat pads for my knees to help speed up the recovery, hopefully should be starting in a week or so time!

Gonna double each "week" and do an easier speed week 1, then a harder speed week 2. So it'll take me twice the time to complete the "course" but that's fine. Don't think its gonna be possible for me to jump up levels that quickly with my arthritis!!

My trainer said to me that i've made an unbelievable change, and i'm so much better than I was this time last year, but a lot of my changes have been strength rather than cardiovascular fitness or stamina. So gotta work on it now!

it's better to run outside as it is nicer and the treadmill moves you along as you go. your muscles develop better and quicker outside, the weather is the biggest thing, wind, rain, heat etc you can actually get injured more easily on a treadmill. i got runners knee a few weeks ago and had to stop running as i was doing too many runs on the treadmill and not enough outside, had practically stopped since the snow in november. you can also damage your ankles easier.

my last 5k RFL was in total rain. it was so bad i was soaked to the bone and couldn't see out of my glasses.

Hi Fatal - I've just done W2D2 so around the same point as you. Be careful with your 7kph walk on the treadmill - I've just slowed down from 6.5 to 6 as I feel I might do myself an injury....! I do 2 treadmill and one outdoor session per week - today's was the outdoor one. Because I set a reasonable (for me!) pace of between 9 and 9.5 on the treadmill I found Week One's outdoor session stupidly easy but I pushed it (including the walk breaks) a lot more this week and really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work!

i tried it today at an incline of 10, with a speed of 10.5.... that might be a bit high but managed it for 10 minutes
