'Chasing Butterflies' - Team 7

!

Thankfully my boss is away today after I have just spent all afternoon reading the team thread.

Nicki & Butterfly - you are truly inspirational! Whilst I am in awe of your will-power Nicki, it is comforting to know how brilliantly Butterfly has done inspite of the slip-ups - certainly given me some hope!

If you are looking for another big loser for your team, I may not be the right girl, as am not sure that I am going to be able to sustain 100% SS as I don't think I can grind my social life to a complete halt for 3-4 months or however long it is going to take to shift 2-3 stone. Quite worried about it all really.....

Whilst my CDC is lovely, she didn't go through the different steps and told me I should just SS. Whilst that might work in the NY, I have got half a dozen work dos (dinners etc) before Christmas and have just been invited to Thanksgiving! Not to mention 3 dates that I have said no to this afternoon alone - argh! Wondering whether I should be 810-1000 now and then going cold turkey (excuse the pun) after the silly-season? Any thoughts?

I think that I really could do with the support of you ladies, because if you are happy for me to join your team, I want to make sure that I am on the right step so I don't let you down by falling off the wagon.

Hi all!
Happy, happy to get chance to come back and waffle with you all as been busy last few days and getting minimins withdrawals!
Nicki, not understanding the gain!!! That is just not true, there is no way you can physically gain 2lb doing 810, which i know you are strict on, especially when you're scales are so different. Something similar happened to me the other week where my cdc said i'd lost 4 (when i knew it was loads less, like 1lb!) So i told her they weren't right, cos mine had been so different at home. We moved her scales and put them on a flat tile and sure enough the next reading was different. It bugs me how they can be so flip about such things, if i was a cdc i'd keep my scales on the same place, and even mark it on the floor all the time! As for the chicken leg- i do this almost weekly and it doesn't really make such a difference. Are you just doing ss for the week then? I can understand why, (to reclaim back the gain more quickly) but thought you needed to 810 cos of toilet issues? Hope you feel ok....;). You are going to have a whopper of a loss this week then...!
LOL at your enthusiastic washing- do you thinki could have a new house again, so i could get into doing any housework...just always find so many other things to do.

BIG BIG WELCOME to Wadpol and Hoping2LoseBig!!:welcome2:So glad to see you here.
Now i'll get the boring bit out of the way, as you may have gathered we keep losing people who don't post for reasons unknown- so we did develop some 'rules' to try to stop it happenning so much. I'll post below and you can have a read. Basically, please post often as you can, let me know your weights for the challenge and if you want to drop out, thats fine, just please be courteous and tell us!

Pol, think you'd be wise to consider going up for the higher plans, 810-1200, and see what suits. You have nore flexibility to plan a night out on these, and you won't have all the ketosis and glycogen gains to contend with in the meantime. But i do think this is going to be hard, the reason ss has been so easy for me (and 810 to a certain extent) is that it removes the 'choice'. You just do it and thats it, no counting, planning etc, which is where i have always previously failed. You need to be really disciplined to socialise and diet, and be able to get back on track after your functions. Just need to maybe think about if you can cope with this and prioritise your functions, are all of them needed? is this the right time to start dieting? I'd think the fact that you are here says it probably is, but you need to plan it so it is likely to succeed, not fail at the first hurdle. You don't want to return to the dieters cycle again. Like you said, you can always ss after NY. Don't give a stuff if you lose 1 or 10lb, the fact that you are here and trying is all that counts. We've all been there. Come on here as often as possible, be honest with yourself, as you'll see i screw up all the time, so know what its like to need pulling back on the wagon. (thanks to Nicki!!) We're here for good and bad times.

Hoping2LoseBig, yep, still spaces, love you to join us... If you can put up with my waffle!

Love to hear more about you both and feel free to ask anything!

I know this is getting a bit long......sorry.. told you i had withdrawals! At WI on Wed i lost 3lb :D:D:D Absolutely gobsmacked, wasn't expecting that so over the moon! Has kept me mostly on track overall so seems the scales are still moving this week, and sneaking closer to that 10stone goal. Which i am still thinking of resetting, not sure really....?
Sorry not been about, been girly shopping with mom and stayed over. Went bra shopping, for my poor deflated flaps, and it was enlightening. turns out i was wearing a 36A, but she advised me i need a 34D. Completely bemused...she said that although they are deflated, they are still there, but just need giving the right support and lift. I need padded balcony bras to give me boobs. I found some and it was fantastic to actually try lovely underwear on. Bought a few lovely bras and some fancy pants! (just need a child free night!;)) Its funny because i have never measured a D???
Still enjoying my 810meals, but need to hit the water a bit more.
Getting bit freaked by thought of moving up again to 1000, which i probably should consider. Ooohh, the thought of planning food does become a bit of an alien concept!
At work now and tonight again, so not be around in day....snoozing hopefully. Back tomorrow night. xx

Team Rules
A team of up to 6 members, who are following and aiming to lose weight via cd all report their weekly weight loss to their team leader, either on their team thread or via pm.
Every week IreneH posts the challenge thread, normally as a sticky. It is normally on by thursday and runs until sunday, when the results will be collected and the winner announced.
The team leader collects the details of all the team members losses and has to do the following calculation to discover what percentage of weight everyone has lost.
amount of weight lost this week x 100 = ..............%
previous weeks weight
You post on the challenge thread your teams %lost and your 'biggest loser'% of the week. Teams 'compete' to see who can lose the most.
The team needs to have a minimum of 3 members losses reported to be included in the weekly challenge.
Lastly, all team members are encouraged to post as often as they can to be able to give each other support.
I act as team leader currently for the team, so just pm me or post results for the week on here so i can put us in the challenge. I do work every other weekend, so need our results by saturday so i can put the results on by sunday.

The one thing i have had to change is being a bit more firm about participation in the challenge. I think that considering that the whole point of the teams, is to join in this, i will ask that everyone does post their results every week so that we can participate. Doesn't matter if you've gained or sts even, but at least we are all trying and staying in the spirit of things. Taking the advice of another team leader, i think its fair to suggest that if a member does not post for a week after the sunday challenge ends, (and they haven't previously accounted for their absence) they will be reminded via pm and if no response their place on the team will be re-advertised.

Butterfly

Thank you for your kind welcome & the words of wisdom/advice. I have actually just managed to pop in and see my CDC and she wants me to crack on with my social life/dating! She's recommending that I low/no carb on those evenings and SS the rest of the time. Whilst I appreciate that it's going to be a slower process, at least it's a step in the right direction. So although Day 3 today, I will end up eating tonight - decided I couldn't avoid chap after he's spent 3 months at war! I think that my biggest problem is going to be the Christmas period when I will be spending time with my parents as I know that my Mum will try to sabotage the diet (she's one of those who comments on your weight (even when I was a size 10-12) and then hands you a piece of cake!) - oh well, a month to go, so hopefully I can lose a bit before then.

Don't get me started on bra sizes! I wouldn't be at all surprised if your 34D was incorrect. If I go to M&S, they insist that I am 36F when I am actually a 30H - beat that for being able to wear it as a hat!!!

Anyway, now that you know about my boobs, I suppose I should say a little about myself. Am 34, currently single (after 6 1/2 years) and work in the armed forces. Unfortunately have piled on the weight after back problems have left me unable to do much aerobic activity - but basically have been lazy and not curbed my eating - oops! So here I am, 13 stone and unable to get into my size 14 jeans. Miserable about having a wardrobe full of beautiful clothes that I can no longer get into, but I suppose that I am fortunate that I don't have as much to lose as you fantastic ladies have/have done, so I shouldn't whinge. Problem is that I'll also be gutted if I lose too much and the size 12-14 wardrobe ends up too big, unless I find a good seamstress!! There's just no pleasing some people! So, I guess that my main goal is to get back into my wardrobe (down 1 dress size on bottom, 2 on top).

Anyway, need to go now (I woffle too!) as I have a 2+ hour drive home to face.

Having read the whole thread I appreciate the problems you've had with unreliable team members, so will do my utmost to obey the rules. My first WI is on Wed, so will make sure that I post the results on here soon after.

TTFN!

Pol

Can you add another member?

Hi Butterfly,

Do you still have room for another member? I originally lost almost five stone on LL from July to December 2008. Kept it off for a couple of months, then stopped exercising and it slowly crept back on. I put back on about 2 stone. Tried LLL, but wasn't feeling the love and getting to the meetings was a hassle and no one as staying, etc. I decided to swap to CD... jump started myself by ssing, and have pretty tried to stick to that or once in a while having a South Beach diet (ketosis) friendly low-cal meal with the family. Anyway, I have about 20 pounds to lose and then I need to work on learning how to maintain it.

MinnieMel

Absolutely MinnieMel, welcome aboard, glad to have you join us. See above about the team rules thing if you get chance. Ooohh, very interested in the south beach diet thing... I am on 810, like the idea that i could consider a more varied diet and still be in ketosis if i wanted. Is there a site you use for info?

Pol, i cannot believe you have read the whole thread! That must have taken forever, and been a bit boring! Although i have to say, i can spend ages reading the maintenance diaries. I s'pose it just helps to understand how things have gone for others, so you get a bit more of an idea what to expect. Although we're all different. Sounds like agood plan to ss and low carb, good timing too as MinnieMel can help with this I'm sure. Sypathies with the back problems, can be so debilitating can't they, and limit you so much. Is it any better now? Does your Mum comment that you are big then, even if you're not? I had to be quite clear with my folks/OH as to what i could have, and talk them through why the diet is 'safe' as they naturally worried about something seen as so controversial. They've mostly been fine ever since. Mom now getting a bit 'you should stop now' with me, but i know she just cares and she's right, i don't need to lose any more.

Actually feeling a bit unsure about where to go from here, think i will go up to 1000 on Wed, as i am likely to have hit my 10stone goal. Its just moving outside of the comfort zone of ss'ing and feels a bit wierd. Scared that i can't do it, or that my life will just return to being so 'food focused' when i don't feel like i have the time. Realistically, i know the hard work starts here, and yes, i will need to really focus on my food to keep my weight stable, but theres a little kid inside of me screaming 'but i don't want to!' and would love for it to be as easy as ss has been. Just need to bite the bullet, plan as much as possible and try 100% i guess. As for what goal to stop at, i am not sure either. I can see my bones now and am just moving towards size 10 bottoms, size12 tops. May just continue moving up plans, if i sneak down a bit and size 10 becomes the norm in most shops i would be happy, but not too bothered. need to focus on the exercise and toning now.
Did wake up by 5 today and decided to go out for a bike ride, which i previously used to hate, but trying to develop a passion for. Only did about 25mins, round the loal area. Mostly flat, but with small inclines which do push me a bit, (in my current state of unfitness) felt good and really enjoyed it. Will do pilates tonight at work if can.

Hope work going ok for you Nicki? No response from Laurie, so thats another one gone, but MinnieMel here, so back up to a full team. When is Claire back??? Hello hun, you out there?? Hope you had good holiday, come and tell us juicy details!

Back soon xx

Thanks for allowing me to join your team. I will try hard to do my part to make this a successful one. I already read the rules, but i will reread them and make notes on them.

Congrats on reaching goal, Butterfly. I tried to speed up my weight loss by doing loads of exercise last year when I did LL. And, when I was not able to keep up the pace... I started gaining it back. Hence, the CD diet to get back to goal. And, this time I want to set myself up with a maintainable exercise programme.

You can Google South Beach Diet recipes and there are loads on-line. It is a diet developed by a caridologist. He designed it to help his cardiac patients -- and it ended up being a very good plan for losing weight. It is low gylcemic index diet. So, it is not no carbs... it is "good carbs". You eat whole wheat pasta, and foods that are slower to digest, and thus better for not feeling hungry or gaining weight. Tescos sells a good GI Guide. It is worth a look-see.

Ooooh... another low GI one then. I'm slowly working my way through most low GI books out there, but was hoping to find one that combined cals intake and low GI in as simple way as possible. I've been keeping an eye out for the Tesco one but none of the stores near me stock it- will look online.

Thinking about getting an online diet tracker- loads of the maintenance ladies use them and it looks really good.

Hi Butterfly,

This is the best on-line (free, too) tracker I've seen. It is a grear website.

Morning All,

Not a night worker, as a couple of you are... so, my morning started just after 7 (it's the weekend, I slept in :rotflmao:).

It was nice to get up and find a few posts from members of my new team. :wavey:

Last week's weight 153 lbs. Current weight 151 lbs.

I can't "weight" to get into the 140s, then under 10 stone, then to 9.5 (my personal maximum).

However, I am going to try to bring it a bit below that -- somewhere around 9 st 3. (My wiiFitPlus tells me I should weight that, and who am I to argue with Nintendo?) :worthy:

Are we "registered" as a group? I do not have any group memberships on my profile.

I hope all of you have a fit and fun Saturday. :character00116:

MM

Oooohh, how do they work that out then, on the wii? I am 5'4.5" so i s'pose i'd need to be about the same. Seems so little. (compared to my previous 15+stone!!) Haven't registered as a group. Never looked into it to be honest..?? Thanks MM, will look into that one too- how much is it?
Waiting for OH and DD to get up, so i can crawl into bed for a snooze for an hour or so. Why does she never ever lie in this late with me???!!! xx

Hi Butterfly,

I bought the WiiFitPlus software to go with my WiiFit and it does calculate all that (beware... it made my Mii "blow up" a bit, since I have put back on over a stone). It is great software because it tracks calories burned, etc. -- and better yet it has a multiplayer function. The WiiActive was also recommend on this forum, and so I have a bought that for Christmas.

I have a DH (who is still in bed) and DD who is up. Hence, the "sleeping in" joke. Julianne (age 10) thinks if she's awake, I should be as well. Plus, her little dog wants a wee and breakfast (I'm pretty much the same first thing in the morning. lol). I also have a DS (age 18) who is at Uni in U.S. -- he'll be back on the 22nd of December for about 2 weeks.

I looked at the groups and they are "social groups". None of them seems very active. I think as we are team we're probably okay as we are, but maybe I'll research how to start a social group. Someone was looking to start an on-line book club and that has been my "forte" (Book Clubs) for years. Do you like to read?

Have a good sleep -- and a great weekend. BTW what do you do working at night?

Hello all!

H2LB - Well done with your WI!

MinnieMel - Well done you so far! I may need to pick your brains for food ideas, especially since I've been told that I must not SS whilst popping diclofenac sodium. Big problem that I have is that Mon-Fri lunch I only have access to a microwave as a means of cooking - so prob lots of cold chicken & salad for me (which I love thankfully!).

Butterfly - You're right, it did take me ages, but it was good to read everyone's ups and downs. I do wonder what my Mum's problem is - she's one of those who bangs on about her weight constantly, despite being size 10. Obviously I am a huge disappointment to her at size 14-16!! Back has bad and better days, although still can't run, do aerobics, bend over etc - it's rubbish - could hardly walk yesterday. Anyway, intensive physio starts on Wednesday to try to realign my spine & pelvis. Woohoo - physio followed by WI - can't wait!!!

I think that you must try not to worry about moving up the steps. Did you read the article in You magazine a few weeks ago about Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen and her 5 stone loss on LL? I like her attitude, where she tries to be low/no carb during the week and then eats what she likes between Saturday lunch & Sunday eve - sounds reasonably sensible to not be too obsessive and not feel like you're depriving yourself. Obviously, that won't be until maintenance for us all, but remember how far you've come and how much you've lost.

Another tracker is FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal - also free.

Going to try a 100% SS day today after tandoori chicken & some cauli & spinach last night - since it's the w/e and am not at work, going to avoid the anti-inflammatories today. Thinking that if I take 2 x 75mg a day instead of 3 x 50mg then I only need to eat 2 'meals' and not 3 - hhhmmmm......

Anyway, ladies, hope you are all having a good w/e.

Onwards and downwards......

Pol
