Cupcakes

I really want to make some for my Son's 1st birthday which we are celebrating joint with his Grandad (my FIL) and i'd like to do a Golfing theme as I just know that this will one day be their little thing that they do together.

I've googled golf cupcakes and some look far too fancy for me as a beginner, I was thinking more along the lines of green icing with flags, the odd ball here and there but mainly the topping will have happy birthday and their names on.

I'm just wondering before I continue searching for cupcake recipes and how to make green icing in case there are any amazing bakers in here that could provide me with some hints and tips??;)

Do you have any cake making stuff? Get some green food colouring (gels are better if you can get one). The grass nozzles are brilliant if you have one or don't mind spending a little bit of money which will give you a great base, then you could add a few little white balls (just buy some ready to roll icing and prick it with a tooth pick to give it the golf ball effect) and make little flags round toothpicks to stick in?

The other thing that you could do is buy some dessicated coconut and a bit of green liquid colouring, put the coconut in a food bag and add a bit of colouring at a time and shake it till it's all covered. Ice the cupcakes with basic buttercream and then sprinkle the dessicated coconut over to cover, then add the balls and flags as above

Or, if you wanted to be a little different, you could make the golf balls and stick some tees into the cupcakes once iced and put the balls on top of the tees?

Does that help any? x

You could use food colouring in normal white icing, but then it will only be pale green cos it goes sticky with too much colourant. Places like hobbycraft sell coloured sugar paste, you can get it in big supermarkets too sometimes (eg tesco extra). You could make the tees out of icing, but I would be tempted to use real tee's with icing balls. You can get coloured squirty icing from anywhere with thin nozzles on designed for text.
