diary of angie-bum, first time mum

Awwwwwww!! Glad it went so well!! Jocelyn was on the 98th for weight and height at birth, big babies are great! And lol, even though I'm a midwife for goodness sake I was still shocked when my waters went at just how much is up there!! :D

...all i can think about is that big babies must be harder to get out! Ouch!

That aside, I also saw the main delivery areas last night and saw several of the staff, they were lovely & I'd have no quarms ending up there if needed. I really felt listened to, it was spotless and they were really understanding. Am almost looking forward to the birth now.... almost!

lol at the almost looking forward to the birth! lol ;) Glad the delivery unit is nice though and the staff - fingers x'd you recognise a few when the time comes.
Don't worry too much about waters going - they don't always - though a mattress protector or incontenance pad (like the doggy ones) will be handy I'm sure.

Really relieved all is fine for you! And baby woweee I hadn't thought our babies could be anywhere near 5lb already.. I wonder what mine is now! lol I'm not sure what the average is at our gestation - my eldest was 7lb 3oz born late. So we'll see what I 'come up with' and we can compare notes in December! lol

As for hospital bag.. well you are right - I'd be the same - so need to get some bits for mine tomorrow. :p

Have just read back at the others notes about their waters.. maybe I'm naive! lol I had to have mine broken, but I do remember the 'gush' and warmth, so guess I was lucky not to 'see' them go! lol

Right! really am getting my arse in gear!

ooooh getting excited now.

Got the big local paper yesterday and found the mother and baby section.

Never bought anything from a paper before.... but will be picking up in an hour a cosatto gliding crib with 'I love my bear' drapes and sheets (will need to pick up a new mattress). When I spoke to the lady she said she'd throw in the mobile she has too =)

Then, can't pick up stuff tomorrow 'cos I am going to a wedding, but on Sunday am picking up a Fisher price rain forest bouncy musical chair & then hot footing it around to another ladies to get a Tiny love activity arch/gym...

It's really good because I was thinking of getting the last 2 full price anyway and then I saw them in the paper

Hubby has also said he is taking a couple of days off in the week to paint the rest of the baby's room.

Eeeek! it's all happening now =)

Great news :) I got a few things from the nearly new section of netmums, saved a few quid ;) Hope you're still taking it easy though!

thanks Shel! I will look up netmums too.

I am trying to take it easy, but it's hard when you have so much stuff to do. I find recently I am getting really breathless after just walking a few feet or standing for too long. Am off to a wedding tomorrow, am making sure we have a folding chair for me to perch on if needed!

Are you okay?

Aww that's great news about your bargains! there are amazing savings to be made - ebay for local pick up is a good source too. ;)

Hope you enjoy the wedding tomorrow too.. and yes it is getting very real!
I feel like we've all gone on such a journey on this thread - when we first came along it was pretty quiet eh! lol now look at us!! :) and winter is fast approaching.

a journey indeed, I can't believe how much I didn't know, I remember saying it felt like a job I hadn't any training for, but now I have most of the gear I needed and have read lots, here, on baby'n'bump and in books....well I am actually feel vaguely confident =)

Hubby has also said he's gonna take a couple of days off next week to paint baby's room and take stuff up into the loft, I can actually see we will have a baby room and not just a cramped corner of an already filled spare room. Things are looking up & I am more and more confident that this will go well and I will have a baby by Christmas

Need to go to sleep now, the wedding isn't til 3pm, but still have to make sure hubby's suit is ready and we've wrapped the pressies nicely. However, I will also try and have a bit of a lay in this morning (i can say that as it's already tomorrow 00:06 by my clock) because I am fed up with being grateful for only 5 hours kip...I need more sleep. So nightie night, will try and take some good wedding/bump pickies and post them here. Happy halloween guys =)

yep know that feeling! then I have a load of BH contractions and it feels like my diaphram can't work at all.

I forget that my breathing is compromised when at rest, I think 'oh yes I can go for that walk, I can climb that hill!' then I stand up and waddle a few feet and go 'doh! forgot....let me sit down again!' pant pant =)

Hope it goes well this afternoon - a nice time for a wedding and evening do to follow. :)

Also glad your OH is getting to grips with the spare room to turn it into a nursery. I'm sure it'll be lovely! Erin's room had a bunk system in there for a sofa and single bed for visitors but still managed to make it nice. our babies room now is still 'the spare room' and will be till she moves in there later on, but will still house a bunkbed! lol

as for breathlessness and BH I am SOOOO there with you. Am starting to get sympathetic looks out and about as I'm gripping my tummy or resting. Today we nipped to Tesco's for a few last minute bits, and I had to go and sit down as the man in front had bought some boots for his daughter with no price. poor man came over and apologised on his way out for keeping me waiting! lol I explained about my low BP being the cause, was sweet of him though.

Angie, you're on course to getting everything ready! That's great that you got some bargain stuff! And Shell, thanks for the tip I will definately have a peak onto Netmums!

How did the wedding go? I'm a bit jealous actually! I love a good wedding...come to think of it, it's been a good while since I've been to a wedding! Maybe it's a good thing that I don't go to one anytime soon...with my over-emotional self I'd be blubbering all the way through the nuptials!

Awww, the nursery will look totally adorable once it's finished I'm sure :).

Hi Guys,

The Wedding went well, the wedding had a gothic theme, bride in black velvet with top hat and black lace veil, everyone else in black, black and scarlet/purple. I was in black scarlet and purple, hubby in black and purple. Took many photos but only got one taken of hubby and I which I will post once have got it off the memory stick. So glad hubby got me a new camera, hopefully will be able to take nice ones of babs when she comes out.

Picked up the crib and I love my bear quilt, cot drapes and mobile (very cute) am picking other stuff up today, not completely sure of the arrangement as one of the ladies left a message saying that she had to change the time of pick up. Need to get back to her, but am also heading over to see Hubby's uncle and their family so it all has to fit in. They have invited us around for lunch. Good! I do not feel like doing the shopping or cooking to be honest.

As for the 'nursery' it was going to be the small office which we call the yellow room. Hubby took it over a couple of years ago as an office/walk in wardrobe/dumping ground. He has not cleared it out, so I have been stacking baby stuff in 'the pink room' our other spare room, which has also lot of stuff piled in there. Hubby has said he will finish painting the pink walls white and take stuff up into the loft. Baby will be in our room in a cot for the first few months (at a squeeze), but yes in time there will be a dedicated room, just not sure if it will be the pink or yellow room! In the mean time I will try and get the pink room to look as nice as I can (need to try and get hubby to move the infrare sauna out of the corner of the room!) anyway, it's all go now.

Otherwise I completely understand PH, was in town the other day only walked 100 yards up a mild incline, got into the entrance way of local super drug, had an old dear rush up to me asking if I needed a chair. It's only been in the last 10 days I'd say, but I get suddenly exhausted and need to sit down and breath, just breath....usually accompanied by breaking out into a sweat and feeling woosey. I can feel fine one second then in the next think 'oh blimey, I don't feel too good'...I wonder if it is just baby is growing so much in the last few weeks, thats gonna take some energy/internal chemistry work!

I really am wondering if I am going to make it to 37 weeks, bump really seems to be growing exponentially, my tummy looks like an enourmous proving loaf! I am wondering whether baby being big/ waters being great and baby's head being low in pelvis are all signs she might come out early. Some of it may be wishful thinking of her coming at 37 weeks, but I really can't see how I will be able to move, walk or breath if this carries on until Christmas!

Anyway, need breakfast now and to get back to this woman about picking stuff up, so better head off. Have a great day guys =)

Ooh can't wait to see the pics! My friends had an alternative wedding a few years ago (LO was coming up for 2) and we had a lovely day! Everyone looked fab. :) Went to one years ago too and that was lovely as well. I wish I'd had an alternative wedding I must admit - it would have been much more 'me'. lol We had a tiny wedding though just my MIL and my sister as witnesses with DD (who was 18 months old).
Glad the wedding went well and you collected your crib fine and mobile :) that's a saving of £25 or so right there on the mobile! lol

((hugs)) of sympathy on the feelings of late pregnancy when walking etc. I'm sure baby will likely hold on, but it can seem the opposite sometimes I must admit.

I'd really love my bump to be here by xmas but I am really doubtful as have had various dates and went 5 days over with DD. So expecting bump between xmas and new year in honesty. lol She may surprise me though you never know.

Sounds like great plans about your spare room. DH has been having a re-think on our cot, and has measured the space we want it in in the babies room - it JUST fits, so he's thinking of moving his recording stuff / computer / stereo etc back into our room and then moving cot into babies room to make it a proper nursery where we could do baby changing etc in there too. Also then it'd be a usable bedroom if we need it. I'd better start planning the decor I think! lol I'm thinking of adding to the lilac curtains and light fitting I have in there already but then have winnie the pooh stuff too... decisions decisions.. lol

I had a thought at midnight last night... we are due our babies NEXT month!! Amazing but true!! :D

oh.my.god! eeeeeeeeeeeeek!

lol
You sound like Janice from friends!! :D

Right, got over the shock of thinking it's gonna be next month...progress report, got a rainforest vibrating baby seat for £20 (usual retail £45) and a tiny love noah's ark for £10 (retail usually £45-50) then that lovely lady also sold me a mothercare bath, thermometre and top/tail bowl for £8 total. So feeling a bit happy at my bargains, have looked them up again on amazon and they have really good reviews, though I really don't think they are worth £45 a piece. However the Mum's who have written the reviews have said they are good just to be able to have a few minutes to do other stuff while junior sleeps or entertains themselves! Baby is kicking well tonight, getting ready to come out and entertain mummy and daddy no doubt!

Great stuff! :) Well done on your bargains. :)
Have a google of 'jumperoo' I'm looking at one for my LO just after xmas - suitable once they can hold up their heads. ;) Might be that your bits make it so you don't need one though - so far I only have a play mat and vibrating baby chair. the Jumperoo is £90 retail but I've heard great reviews too so am hoping I can get one in an after xmas sale! lol My sister is going to chip in toward it too as it's all I really 'need'.

I's my birthday !! =)

Hubby has made me breakfast, we are heading off to the beach to walk doggie, then likely to go to our favourite place for icecream (Roskilly's) then likely to head over to our friends to put their wedding photos onto their laptops (was going to give a disk, but with 130+ photos and many videos, it is taking too long!) then maybe off to a old Cornish village called Zennor, followed by a trip to the cinema to see 'up!' and then dinner with friends tonight at a local eatery called 'Gwel an Mor'....well that's the plan, will need to get off this thing though, if we are going anywhere
