Dinkie Dawnies Dubious Diary of Downsizing, Deflation, and Debauchery

Morning chica - hope you're okay and haven't gone too mad because of a missed class.
Let us know how you are

Good afternoon ladies x

Sorry for my absence. I've had quite a lot going on recently and then to top it all, I've now had a really cr#p weekend. But surprisingly I've managed to stay on plan through most of it which is great.

I had my colonoscopy which was quite frankly one of the most painful experiences I've ever had! But thankfully the results were good and my pain isn't due to cancer. They think its IBS which is very common and something I will just have to live with. I've been looking at various ways of cutting my insoluble fibre down as apparently that's a possible trigger factor but until I've seen my GP I'm basically still following SW but with a few tweaks for IBS.

Vicki and Mathew are buying a lovely new house about 20 minutes away. It should be finished around Christmas and they should move in in January. I don't think it's really sunk in yet that she's really going! Whilst I'm happy for her, I'm also worried that she's only 22 and it seems such a young age to be burdened with a mortgage and bills! She should be out enjoying herself! And ... I'm going to miss her so MUCH!

So, other news is that I found out a couple of days ago that I didn't get the Waitrose job. I'm absolutely gutted as I was pinning all my hopes on it. I really need to get out of my current job ASAP. I'm so stressed there that I can't take much more of it. They say they will keep me on file for three months.

Then on Saturday I had a massive row with a very close friend and I think the relationship will be irreparable. To be honest I haven't really felt much like eating since then so that may account for me being on plan lol.

And then, as if things weren't bad enough, I got up early to take mum to hospital for her virtual colonoscopy and my damn car wouldn't engage gear! It was a similar thing to what happened in Newcastle but today I couldn't budge the gear stick at all! It was totally jammed. So I had to take Gwyn's car and luckily we got there in time. We won't know the results for a while which is a bit of a pain but mums bearing up well.

I was going to stay at mums tonight but she says she's absolutely fine so I think Ill go home soon and get some tea, despite not really wanting anything!

I hope you guys are all having better luck than me!!! Xx

Today's food

Porridge (B1)
Milk (1/2A)

2 wm toast (B2)

Hello!!

Oh gosh you sure have not had luck on your side recently. Sorry to hear about the Waitrose job. Can you get feedback from them so you know how to improve for next interview?

How exciting for Vicki. Sure she will be fine and doesn't sound like you're far away. Always going to be hard to let go of your baby though.

Sorry to hear you had a big argument with best friend. I had similar experience earlier this year so I do know how it is. Not nice. Rather than go off food, I stuffed my face with everything and anything. I didn't help!

Hope your mums results are good and your luck changes soon

X

Chica - you really haven't had a good time have you?
Glad that your tests were negative and fingers crossed for your mum.

Don't worry about Vicky too much. I was married at 20 and also had a mortgage at 22.
Okay not big by today's standards but in 1978 it was massive.
We still found ways of enjoying ourselves even on a very tight budget.
We also managed to increase the term just once by 4 years when we moved house, which meant we were debt free by the time I was 51!
So every cloud has a silver lining.

Thank you Penny and Bev x

Well I wasn't hungry this morning so I skipped breakfast and spent the morning composing an email to Waitrose. It took me ages to try and get across the fact that I still really want to work there but didn't want to appear desperate! This is what I came up with...

image-3655980426.jpg

Fingers crossed that someone drops out!!

As for the immediate future, I'm thinking I have no other choice other than to ask if I can go back out on the road. I just don't think I can stay in my current job without going mad!

I haven't had the car looked at yet. I've got an awful feeling that it's the gearbox and that's not going to be cheap.

The rest of my day was taken up with washing, hoovering, walking the dogs and then cooking. We have a taster on Thursday and the theme is The Great British Bake off / Halloween so I had a go at a banana cake this afternoon. And I have to say its absolutely delicious! I cut it into 8 slices (they're pretty big!) and it works out at 2 syns per slice which isn't bad. And it actually TASTES like cake lol!!!

Hi Dawn,

So, sorry that you didn't get the job, but very pleased that your colonoscopy was ok, also, fingers crossed that Mum's is too xxx

Your email is fab!

Thanks Lynne x I thought the email was worth a try. My friend Sue said it was a good idea to keep me on their radar iykwim.

I think my task of the day is to see if I can get my car sorted. I'll wait until everyone's gone to work and the ring the AA and see if they have any ideas. I'm useless with cars and haven't got a clue where to start!

I might also make another cake in preparation for taster on Thursday. I saw a recipe for an orange cake on here so I might give that a go.

I'd really like to catch up on some diaries too as it's been about three weeks since I was last here and things have a habit of moving really quickly here!!!

Hello lovely

Sorry you've been having such a bad time of it... Also very sorry to hear you didn't get the Waitrose job. I think the email is great and definitely worth a try - it shows how much you want the job and you never know, it could be that you missed out because they needed full time staff etc. so you may get a second chance at it. I will keep everything crossed.

Jane xx

Hi Dawn
Sorry you didn't get the job but definitely send your follow up email it can't hurt, something might come up I'll keep fingers crossed for you x

Would you mind sharing your banana cake recipe I make one but it ends up being 6-7 syns a slice which I think is a bit high
Cheers Hun glad you are well xx

Morning Dawn

Can't believe you didn't get the job... I used to do recruitment for a different supermarket and you sound absolutely the ideal candidate!! As for the working hours, in my experience, supermarkets will be looking to fill part time contracts with people who are very flexible. Where I worked, no-one got a full time contract on first job. Good idea to keep your name in there tho, it won't be long until they are looking at Christmas temp contracts, so even that could give you a foot in the door. Fingers crossed.

Lovely news for Vicki and Matthew too. I know she is only young, but I do think it's sensible now to buy property as young as you can and hopefully build some equity. It's great that they can start their real life together too, and not too far away from your home comforts!!

That banana cake sounds nice, was it a SW recipe??

Hope work isn't getting to you too much this week xxx

Thanks for your support Jane. I'm going to try and forget all about it now and just hope something comes of it x

Thanks Ronnie. I've just found your new diary so will be along shortly. Here's the recipe for the banana cake. I really liked it and so did the kids! I made one change and that was I separated ALL the eggs in order to whisk the whites and then fold them in so more air was trapped but obviously you can do it as you wish. I also found it just a bit too sweet so will cut the sweetener down by a couple of tablespoons. And definitely add 2 tsp of cinnamon as it needs it! Oh and I used wm self raising flour just because I had some and I thought it would give a better texture. Let me know how you get on.

Aww thanks for that useful information about the supermarkets Mav x I'm not giving up hope. I'm starting to come round to the idea of Vicki moving out, well a bit lol. I suppose its a natural progression and would happen at some point but it seems such a big step! For the first time in her life she's not training and has a full time job and I can't help feeling she should be out enjoying life instead of worrying about bills lol. Vicki and Matthews little house is the semi on the right image-2848680075.jpg Work is absolutely brilliant this week...because I'M NOT THERE lol!!! ;-) xx

Evening ladies x

Sorry the previous post is all jumbled up! I tried to edit it but it's not playing ball lol!

I had a productive day today so I'm feeling a lot more positive. The friend issue hasn't been sorted and isn't likely to be but... I have ANOTHER very good friend ( yes I DO have more than one!) who I haven't seen for some time and who got in touch today, just when I need her! So that's fab, and I'm hoping I can help her too :)

And I managed to get my car booked into a specialist BMW garage today so hopefully I'll know what the problem is soon, and how much it will cost to fix! They were really friendly and down to earth and are going to run some diagnostic tests as it seems all cars are computerised these days! It could be something very minor or it's possible it could be a big job like the gear box. But just getting it to someone who knows what they're talking about has eased my mind a little.

I made some more cakes today and was quite impressed with them. Chocolate brownies (1 syn each) and lemon cake (1 syn per slice). The choc brownies needed tweaking as the mixture was very dry so I added two more eggs and then it was ok. And I put the minimum amount of sweetener in but next time I'll add a bit more. Anyway everyone seemed to enjoy both cakes so I'll probably make some for taster tomorrow.

Well that's about all my news for today. I'll post my food and then do a quick sweep of the diaries.

Lots of love x

Evening Chica - I was going to say get the computer checked out.
Our Opel (Vauxhall) will occasionally refuse to do anything and it is all to do with the chip in the ignition key not talking to the computer in the car. It usually takes the garage 5 minutes to sort out by re-programming the key but very frustrating when it happens. We've only been charged once and that was the first time it happened and they've never mentioned it again.

Was it a private purchase or was it via a garage? If so it may well still be under warranty as you haven't had it that long have you?

Vicky's little semi looks just the part! I'm sure she'll love it there and you'll soon get used to her not being at home.
Just think of all that extra wardrobe space for more clothes and shoes! :)

I bought the car privately Bev. You're right I haven't had it long...I suppose it's just one of those things. In in the hands of the garage now. They seemed very genuine so I'm hopeful that if it's not too serious they'll fix it quickly. Even if it's a big job I'll still have to get it done as the cars worthless if it's not running.

Yes I suppose the silver lining in Vicki's abandonment of me is the fact I can claim her room as my dressing room lol! You know my fetish for shoes and dresses!! Mind you, Andrews crew mate Wes has got his eye on the room as he currently has to kip on the camp bed in Andrews room when they're on shift!

Helloooooo peeps x

Had a really good day today :) Gwyn and I went shopping this morning and then I made some more cakes for taster. We bought one of those 3 tier cake stands from Asda to put the cakes on and I must say they looked really good! Everyone at wi enjoyed them and I didn't bring any back with me lol!

And I lost 2 1/2lbs woo woo! Well chuffed with that!

After wi my friend Suzanne and I went for dinner at one of our local pubs. The last time we went we were able to order steak, jp and salad but the menu has changed and there's NOTHING healthy on it at all! So Suzanne had Hunters chicken and I had steak, chips and salad. It was ok but nothing special really and I don't think we'll be in a rush to go back.

I hadn't been home long when I had a call from gorgeous Gail and as usual we were nattering for a couple of hours. In fact her mobile died so I had to ring her back on her landline lol. She's really well and sends her love to everyone. I'm going to stay with her in a couple of weeks and I really can't wait. We always have a lovely time!

I haven't heard anything about my car yet but they did say they might not get the chance to look at it till next week. It's going to mean me bumming lifts off Gwyn or the kids to get to and from work etc but hopefully it won't be for too long.

Well that's about it for today. I don't think I'll post my food as I've no idea of the syns I had tonight! I'm not worried about it though as I'm feeling very in control at the moment. It's funny as tonight Gail suggested I should get back into minis a bit more as it really helped me when I was going through tough times before. Things are nowhere near as bad as that now, but they're not great, so I certainly will try to be here more regularly. I find the support here is amazing, and it's not just food related. So thanks in advance guys and I promise I shall try to perk myself up!!!

Lots of love

X

P.S. I know its a bit late now but I've GOT to put this pic on...made me howl lol!
