Em's diary

Understand on the bikini cost, check out debenhams sale, you can search by size and collect instore for free.

You'll have a fabulous time.

It is Cuba you're going to isn't it. or did I dream that?

Ooof I'm glad someone asked! I'd forgotten!!

<does this diet kill off memory cells?!>

Had a look on debenhams jaqys but they only had flimsy looking halternecks in my size, but i really need proper straps - there's too much gravity in play for anything less, & they're simply too heavy for me to carry round my neck all day!!! will keep an eye out on ebay for a back up though.

B: half cinnamon galette
L quarter chicken quiche
S: rest of galette, quarter yoghurt cake
D: 1/3 roast chicken with 1/4 garlic roast butternut squash & mum's bbq sauce, sweetened greek yoghurt with half muller on top

You lucky girl to have kept your attributes intact!
PS - I'm popping it in the post as I leave today :)

Thanks for that Jo, i'll keep an eye out.

re the boobs - i'm pleased that they're still there, but unholstered i'm finding them quite distressing at the moment. i'm in danger of lowering the tone here, but really - if i lie down flat they actually completely disappear under my arms! am planning to visit the doctor to see if i can be referred for a lift. i know it's not for everyone but i'm positive it's what i want - i'll pay for it myself if i have to in the end.

That has happened to mine for a while now, ever since I reached 40. Unfortunately, there's no way I could justify the cost of a lift, but it would be lovely to have one. They're quite...ahem...perky when I'm not lying down. (I wonder if I could sleep standing up? :D )

Good luck if you do go ahead, Em.

thanks jaq, and dd - it'll be a way off either way, but anyway

Quick update for yesterday:

Chocolate making course that had been booked in for a while, though nothing was nibbled, and no fingers were licked! It was a bit disappointing, and i didn't really learn anything new, though i did come away with a good website for ordering supplies.

People for dinner yesterday too, so we had a non dukan thai green chicken curry, though it was just the coconut milk that was bad. Tried to limit the sauce and stuck to chicken and veg with no rice so whilst not very strict could have been much worse. Had made a key lime pie for everyone for desert which i didn't have, and whipped out the truffles made in the workshop for everyone with coffee - again i didn't partake. stuck to diet coke for the evening too, and am feeling pretty virtuous about it all today :D

So for yesterday:
B: cinnamon galette, sweetened greek yoghurt
L: 200g chilli mackerel
D: chicken & veg (thai green)
S: more yoghurt

And today:
B: missed
L: bowl butternut squash & leek soup, 100g smoked mackerel
S: cinnamon galette
D: 2 chicken breasts dry fried with half a roast butternut squash & possibly some of mum's bbq sauce

I followed your example on Saturday and got bra measured. Wearing a couple of sizes smaller than I was - although I'm sure that at one point the size I was wearing was really too small!! I have felt funny all day today - I suppose being supported properly could do that to you and I will get used to wearing the right size!

It was something I have never done before and thought I would be embarrassed but I wasn't, so all good.

that's great mouse - well done! it's true you do get used to what size you're wearing, so when you move to something that supports you properly it feels quite odd but you'll get used to that too. whereabouts did you go? did you treat yourself to more than one new one?

I'm so glad that a previous post of yours inspired me to shop for new bras, Em. I think it feels so much better to be properly supported - even though there's not a lot left to support.

My poor husband is probably sick of me exclaiming about how wonderful it is to have a properly-fitting bra.

Very brave of you to go on a chocolate-making course. I'm not sure that I'd dare, even now on Conso (my willpower crumbles when faced with the stuff).

Sounds as though you'll be making some of your own at home. Will those be for gifts or are you going to treat yourself when you reach Conso?

And just to torture myself even more, I'd love to know what kinds of chocs you learnt to make. I'd imagine they're the filled version, rather than just straight-forward ganache truffles? Also, any interesting flavours?

Well you've been such an inspiration to me dd, it's nice to know i've returned the favour in a small way!

The chocolate making course was really in advance of my brother's wedding in august. I've been asked to make the favours, and we were thinking hand made chocolates. In the course we just did plain truffles rolled in cocoa or almonds. There was also a tempering part, though that's something i'm familiar with already. Resisting wasn't that hard really - i'm stunned at how committed to this diet i still am, and know that a bite of chocolate really isn't worth it in the long run. Fortunately i'll have plenty of taste testers on hand when i do my trial runs!!!

For the wedding i'm looking at doing something more complex - either a set ganache centre hand dipped and decorated or some moulded chocolates which would also be filled with a ganache. I was waiting till after the course before experimenting, but wish i hadn't waited now. It will have to be after the holiday, but i'll try a few recipes, see what they like and then plan for large scale! What we're thinking is doing 4 or 5 varieties and then everyone gets 2, with maybe a little picture card on each table detailing what they are which should also get people talking.

Am looking forward to experimenting though, i'm thinking cinnamon hazelnut, salted caramel and something with pistachio - maybe somthing with almond. Have bought a book from amazon which has amazing reviews and am hoping will give me more recipe ideas too.

Sorry for the torture!

I bow to your superior willpower!:D There's no way I could have experienced all of that and not snaffled at least a few samples.

I think that's a wonderful idea. If I was a wedding guest, I'd be blown away by chocolates handmade by the groom's sister.

Salted caramels are amongst my own particular favourites. I suppose, with it being a wedding and therefore having to suit a variety of people, you'll be a bit limited as to how experimental you can be and will probably have to choose flavours which are likely to be popular with most palates.

Which book have you ordered? I have the fabulous Adventures with Chocolate by Paul A Young, which contains some incredible chocolate ganache flavourings. Mind you, I think that many of those would probably be a little too unusual to appeal to the majority of people.

The flavours you mentioned should be both delicious and popular with practically everyone, I'd imagine.

I also find a fresh garden mint infusion to be lovely if you wanted to try something else non-nutty. Raspberry pulp in a dark chocolate ganache also tastes incredible.

I can't wait to hear what you come up with!

Those are lovely ideas dd, i'll add to my list! I've ordered Chocolates & Confections: Formula, Theory & Technique for the Artisan Chocolatier by Peter P Greweling, though there are several more on my amazon wishlist including the one you'd mentioned. I've borrowed Making Fine Chocolates, Truffles and Confections by Andrew Garrison Shotts from the library which has some good ideas but the recipes all make about 30 so i'll have to cut them down for my trials.

Part of the reason to do a few varieties is so that people can choose to swap them with their neighbours if they want. The theme is vintage so all the tables will be decorated differently anyway - why not the chocolates too!

i'll bet topaz - it's definitely possible to overdo it isn't it!
