Feeling guilty...

Ive been on the diet for nearly two weeks and having 1 shake, 1 bar and 1 meal per day with no cheating. Today I finally allowed myself 200g of mushrooms and spinach with my spag bol but I'm worrying that I've come out of ketosis! I know the diet advises veg when having the 3 meals per day option but I can't help feeling guilty. It would be nice to hear from others who have veg and what effect it has on their weight loss.

This site is brilliant and just reading about everyone's journeys has kept me inspired and motivated to carry on.

I dont think they would advise it if it brought you out of ketosis
but everyone is different of course
i have 4 meals per day plus the veg ad manage to stay in ketosis , dont worry

No guilt required Becky. It's part of the diet and only equates to something around 50 calories anyway. The veggies on the list are selected due to their low carb content so you won't have come out of ketosis. What makes you think you have?

Both raw spinach and raw mushrooms have about 25 calories and just over 3g of carbs each per 100g according to the lists I've looked at so an extra 6-7g carbs will not kick you out of ketosis. It's less than having 4 packs.

For me it makes the diet easier to cope with and I'm sitting here having had my peppers, shallots and mushrooms cooked in chilli completely guilt free :). And the chilli has made me drink a litre of water so all good.

How are you doing by the way?

Thanks for your help ladies, you've put my mind at rest. I'm not sure why I think it'd bring me out of ketosis, probably because I've done CD in the past and I'm not used to being able to have the luxury of the meal packs never mind veg!

I'm think I'm doing ok thanks, ive lost 11lb in nearly two weeks and I haven't been craving anything or even wanted to cheat. I keep thinking of all the different things I'll be able to wear when I get to my goal and it keeps me on track. A lot of people are telling me I'm stupid for doing this diet too so they're giving me more ammunition to succeed. How are you both getting on?

X

11lbs is great Becky. I'm doing OK. I've lost almost 4 stone and have a couple of stone to go. I'm a slow loser though so will be cruising rather than sprinting to the finish line :) but I'm not actually bothered as long as I get there in the end. Oh, and I have the veggies quite often (not always 200g) but it still hasn't stopped me losing 4 stone and it makes the diet bearable.

Wow! That's an amazing weight loss! I bet you feel amazing!

One thing I am worried about is excess skin. I want to lose 4 stone but I'm worried that I'll have lots of it by the time I get there.

I've lost 4 stone already and have no excess skin. I'm not expecting to have any when I reach 6 stone either to be honest fingers crossed :). 4 stone isn't an enormous amount so I wouldn't worry too much unless you're thinking of taking up nude modelling ;)

nude modelling , hmm it might just pay off my credit card bill , any way I digress lol

I worry about loose skin but thats becasue Ive had 2 babies and 2 c sections , and have a little baby overhang , not sure how else to describe it

but if you havnt had children? and like Bordersgirl said you should be ok with a 4 stone loss , they say excercise helps

Ha, I think I'd have to pay them to see me do the nude modelling! ?

I started at 17 st a couple of years ago on CD and managed to get down to 13 with no excess skin but I always thought that may be because I've still got a fair bit to get rid of.

Feeling a bit tonight. Hubby having his usual Saturday night treats while im sipping on water ? it'll be worth it in the end.

It will def be worth it!! I think when my OH has his treats I will come on here, have a chat to people and look through the threads of before and afters, and I think to myself now, I could be posting my before and afters and be someone elses inspiration within a few months of doing this diet!

I will be adding veg into my diet at about 2-3 weeks in I reckon, I love mushrooms and could just eat a handful of them!

Are you allowed to fry them in fry light?

It does say not fried on the list so I doubt it to be honest. I shove them in the microwave with water and cook them or 'roast' them in the oven without oil (add water and wrap in foil). When mixed into spag bol they're ok like that and actually I like mushrooms in any shape or form so I can eat them cooked however :)

My OH is sitting eating chocolate biscuits (having had nuts already) and drinking beer. Doesn't bother me though. Before this diet I'd have been joining him.

I'm starting to slightly go off the spag bol so I might start having some veg roasted and then have a shake afterwards, kind of like a desert. Haven't tried the cottage pie yet but it doesn't look it's a popular one. What do you think of it?

Cottage pie = :yuk: as far as I'm concerned but some people like it. I have a few to use but have been putting it off :). If I have it then it will be mixed in with a lot of broccoli to disguise the flavour. The chilli is nice though, but quite spicy. You can make the shake into a sort of mousse if you want a real dessert. Look in the frequently asked questions sticky.

I had the cottage pie tonight, I found it a bit bland but nice and chewy. I put some pepper and dried herbs in and it was lovely!

This may sound stupid but how much is 200g of rocket? I mean, a handful, a plateful, 2 leaves..... I don't have any in and I can't visualise it!

I've started having 100g of quorn about once a week and I've found it's really helped me stay on track as well as helping keep my bowels moving. I know it's not on our list but it's one of the low carb things and I don't like fish and raw chicken really creeps me out. So far I think it's actually been helping my weight loss.

Quorn sounds like a good protein substitute Cherry. I bought some too but unfortunately I hated it. How you getting on? Not heard from you in a couple of days?

Getting on ok at the moment. Busy busy as always. I've had a couple of STS days but since yesterday it's started coming off again so fingers crossed I'll have a good loss Wednesday.

Yah best of luck..been thinking about how I make this diet work for the future and how what I eat now is what I eat forever.....no/limited wheat.more meat, more veg/ salad and less wine..l.
