Got to give up

Dawn I'm sorry the choice has been taken away from you, but it's not all doom and gloom - we all eventually have to find a plan to follow when we've gone through maintenance and with just 12lbs to go you're not far away from target

As D_Q says you can do either SW or WW online and they both work really well.

Just a thought, would your GP allow you to do one of the other CD programmes - say 790 or 1000 etc ??

That's what I thought. I would have thought he would have suggested you came off it gradually:confused:

BTW, you asked about the GI diet and limits. As the GI diet controls the blood sugar, it keeps you going for longer. Personally, I didn't trust myself. Hunger was only a little bit of the problem.

Incorporating GL into other diets works well though.

As Linda says, perhaps you could do a higher CD plan?

I attended the International CD conference last week and had much pleasure in meeting our new Medical Consultant.

He is a Consultant Endocrinologist and works from Kings College Hospital in London.

He specialises in all things diet related, Weight control, Diabetes, Thyroid, Pituitary, HRT, Male Hormone, Menopause, Calcium, etc etc.

We had a discussion re the way the med profession view VLCDs.

GP's have very little training in nutrition just a smidgen thats all and do not necessarily understand the concept of VLCD's.

He has endorsed that VLCD's play a massive role in the control of obesity in the UK.

The Government's preferred diet is the GI but realise this alone cannot combat the rise in obesity in this country. VLCD's have a major role in bringing that into control.

The strong thing with a VLCD is that its complete nutrition, totally balanced and is both safe and successful. It is important to stabilise after a VLCD and then move to long term maintenance.

Exercise plays a major role in this as well and shortly we do have a booklet and DVD aimed at all levels of fitness, weight, diet programme etc to bring together healthy eating and safe exercise.

I was majorly impressed at the conference last week with the future developments that are coming shortly.

Whoops that was like a lecture sorry peeps:eek: :p

You may have guessed I so strongly believe in CD, well would I still be counselling 19 years down the line if I didn't:rolleyes:

Thought you might come up with something Linda;)

I have to admit, that I wondered how knowledgable this doctor is about VLCD's.

I guess you have to follow your doctors recommendation though :( (might be tempted to get a 2nd opinion if it was me though;))

Not trying to put you off doing what the doctor says....just finding a doctor that agrees with you :D

Hi i thought thjat i would just add that i did weight watchers and lost just over 7 stone. I did it slowly in six month segments so that i knew that i could manage my weight at each substantial weight loss, but thats just me. You could do WW and use the GI food when on it. This is what i plan to do when i finish by CD maintanance so you get the portion control with slow release control.

Why not try the 1200 or 1500 diet in your CD book. There's plenty of choice and you would still be losing weight. The plus is you would not have to go out to meetings. With 12lb to go it is the ideal solution. If you have only 12lb left to lose you should not really be on SS.

Whatever you decide, good luck

Hi Dawn - sorry you have to stop doing CD :(

Loads of great suggestions here for other options that may be more suitable for you....

and don't forget - Minimins isn't just for VLCDers...it's for everyone on their weightloss journey - regardless of the plan they have chosen to do - so you can still come on here for advice and support :)

Hope things work out for you...and you feel better soon.

((hugs))

Hi Redpam,

No problem I do that all the time.

Hi Debz32,
Yes you are correct in saying this is not just a VLCD forum it isn't.

I think the point I am trying to get across is that CD isn't just a VLCD it is used in many ways.

I hope all sorts itself out for you Dawn, if you need to chat you have my number.

Linda

Have you considered a straightforward cal counting plan? By limiting your cals you ensure you know exactly what you are doing. You can factor in occasional treats and yet remain in control. Might be worth a go!

Thanks all you have cheered me up no end. As i said earlier i thinkit has something to do with little ones not being around.

I am going to chat to my phamacist about situation as he does lipotrim and might be able to help, if not he is a homeopath and could mix me up a potion or two.

I think if i have to stop ss i will go down other diet route rather than 1000/1200 and cd as i am out of ketosis already.

Thanks linda i can see where you are coming from about gp's and agree wholeheartedly as it took me 10 months to convince him to send me for tests for pcos.

When you consider the amount GP's do have to learn nutrition is a very small part of the training, so its not a criticism of them just a fact.

Good luck with the pharmacist, remember though Lipotrim is another VLCD so you could encounter the same difficulties.

Let us know how you get on.

Linda

Was just going to ask his advice about cd and symptoms, he is very approachable.

Meant to say i feel much better now and i am now a 'positive polly' instead of the 'negative nelly'

Can i ask what WLR is i have heard it on site but don't know what it is, is it a diet ?

It stands for weight loss resources I think. A website that helps with the calorie counting and nutritional counting as far as I know.

I'm so glad that Linda posts on here because she is a mine of useful information. Having read through all the CD stuff the higher calories programmes are based on GI principles as is the LL management programme.

I was following GI before LL and was losing weight sucessfully. I will return to GI eating when I need to feed myself as I know what you eat affects what you want to eat because low GI foods smooth out the peaks and troughs in your blood sugars which makes you crave food.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I have no doubts that will will continue to be successful because your head is in the right place to make a go of anything ;) :D

Just to let you know i have decided to do sw or ww and read all about GI diet with a view to doing it in a couple of weeks.

I need to work out what i can have/not have and shop for it.

Good luck. I lost about 2 1/2 stone in total this year using GI healthy eating principles. Its amazing how what you eat affects what you crave or don't crave :D

I hope you have the same successes I did and it is a great way to eat because it isn't a diet, it is just what all of us should be doing on a daily basis anyway.

Once you crack the GI way you'll be flying ;)

Read my GI book last night and find it a bit confusing

i tried reading a gi book once and i found it confusing too, its a shame as it sounds in princicple a good way to eat, but its so complicated ,
