Half marathon training

I have hit bit of a problem with my trainers. I got soaked through last w/e and just threw my wet trainers in the cupboard to dry. Now they are soooo uncomfortable. I tried washing them and then wearing them while they were drying to try and reshape them, but now they are too soft and have lost some support!!!!
Am I too late to try new trainers before race day on 11th March?
Also what are you meant to do if u get really wet on a run, is there a special process for drying trainers? Help!!!!!

Training ok. I powerwalk rather than run though (knees aren't what they used to be!)

I have done a few 1/2s and full marathons but all powerwalking. The most I ever ran in an event is 8k - knee was like a ballon by the time I finished :-(

power walking.... i never give that one a thought, good idea though. considering a half and if im not up to a full half running then a power walk is better than just walking.... thanks for that idea pink! :D

Oh no!!! Well when I get wet feet I put my trainers upside down on the radiator. If they are very wet I stuff them with some newspaper too. You're not too late for new trainers if you get them sooner than later. Do your shorter week runs in them before you attempt a long run at the weekend. Just have a word with the running shop to clarify this beforehand just in case I'm completely wrong!!!

Its not ideal at all to get new trainers 2 weeks before race day.
When my trainers get wet I do nothing in particular to them, I just unlace them and leave them in the hallway. Never put them in the washing machine, never put them on the radiator best way is to leave them to dry naturally just how you've taken them off your feet.

Like nomad said, go to a running shop and speak to them, they're proffessionals and should be able to help :) x

Thanks for your comments guys :)

Well I am going to attempt a run in the morning, fingers crossed they will be ok. If not going to go to a running shop. I don't like the idea of buying new shoes so close to a race though. What crappy timing eh!
I did notice the tread is very thin on one side, so I know I won't be running much further in them anyway.

signing up for my first half marathon! half of my head is saying "go for it, you can do it" the other half is saying "loonatic. what are you doing?!"

im telling the crazy half to shut it lol

Yeah crazy half, shut it!!! Good on you :)

Brilliant Gina!!!! :)

i know its early to train, the runs in october but i want to start the half training now. just thinking ill be a bit more prepared for it when it comes round and will make my 5k and 10k runs a bit easier

Yup it's early to train but you could focus on building up to nice steady 6mile runs then 12-16weeks before start upping the mileage :)

ive got two 10k's and a couple of 5k's to do before it, aswell as a moonlight 13 mile walk so ill learn the route for the walk and just keep that up when it comes to the training

im not fussed about the timing of the half marathon, i just want to finish it really. realisticly i know i wont be one of the fastest ones, ill take my time and go my own pace :)

I went out yesterday to test them, but lasted a few mins then noticed my knees were starting to ache, so stopped straight away.
I went to the running shop and bought a new pair of trainers today. Apparently I need high support shoes?? The last shoes they sold me were neutral support?? I did the same gait analysis so not sure why that has changed?
I know it's so close to the run, but didn't have much choice but to buy new trainers!

I was planning to run 11 miles 2moro, but not sure if I should risk it in new trainers? Should I maybe do 6 miles 2moro and then 11 miles next weekend? However that means an 11 mile run the week before the race??? Confused?? I would feel much more confident if I could do 11 miles before the big day.

The only chance I get to run outside is a weekend, as I have a 3 yr old daughter. So it's either 2moro or next weekend.
What is the problem with new trainers, is it blisters or injury?
I could aim to do 6 miles, then if the run goes ok keep going??

Ah, I see. The problem with new trainers is breaking them in like any new pair of shoes otherwise they could rub and cause blisters and in turn lead to injury if you change your gait to compensate. I got new trainers a couple of weeks ago and I'm still not 100% comfortable with them, but that's unusual!!

Defo don't do an 11miler week before the race. If you can't do a long run in them then wear them around as much as u can :)

Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it.

I managed to do my 11 miles. No problem with trainers, so feeling very lucky!!! Will make sure I wear them lots between now and the run.
I feel so tired and ache so much. Please remind me why we are doing this, lol
I managed it in 1hr 55 mins, so quite pleased with that :)

How is everyone else doing?

Yey fab stuff shaz, great time too! And good news re the trainers xx
