My OH & I are looking at going to Kenya to help teach/build schools for a couple of weeks nect summer. Has anyone done anything similar & have any suggestions on companies we could go with?

Kingleds,
Two years ago my friends spent a whole month in Zambia helping with everything, building schools, helping in medical centres (weighing new born babies!!), teaching health classes. She had the most amazing time & found it really grounding. She sorted it all with African Impact. She paid quite a bit for the project as a whole & flights & they provided accomodation & food. She said it really was the best thing she's ever done.

How exciting, I'd love to do something like that.

My sister used to work for Barclays & they paid for people to go on a 'working' holiday, they used Earthwatch Institute.

I subscribe to Wanderlust mag & get emails re jobs etc, & one of the jobs was voluntary work in India teaching english, I really, really wish I could do something like that. Maybe one day I'll persuade OH:D

I'm glad this thread was resurected again, I was reading about the book bus just the other week & I'd really love to go. The minimum stay is 2 wks & costs about £800 + flights. You go to India, South America, Africa & teach reading in the morning with afternoons & weekends free.

I'm hoping OH will go for this next year, we've got our holidays planned this year, but I think I can get him to go for it next year.
