Hi, I'm new to both atkins and MiniMins :sign0144:

My questions is about veg and how to work out how many carbs are in cooked veg. I have the book and it talks about measuring the veg after its been cooked but I'm trying to figure out how many carbs I'm getting from cooked veg in a recipe so I only have the raw weight.

In the book it says 52 g of cooked onion is 4.3g net carbs, is there any way to figure out the raw weight of 52g of cooked onion? Sorry if this is a stupidly simple question or has been asked/covered before :)

Thanks in advance

Hiya-

First of all, don't count net carbs. Net carbs are an American thing because their nutrition labels are different and add the fiber to the carb count.

Net carbs do not exist in England. If the food has a label just go by the carb count on the label.

Re: veg - measure it raw. Its really hard to get the values of cooked vegetables. Just measure how much you're having before you cook it. Putting 100g spinach in a recipe you're going to eat half of - then allow yourself 50g raw weight. It won't change in carb value because you've cooked it.

Sites/apps like fit day and my fitness pal are what most people on here use - when you search for veg make sure you put in a supermarket name with it: eg tesco spinach. That will ensure you get the British values.

(Although to work out backwards from the carb count you'd look up the carbs in raw onions and decrease the amount of onion until you got to 4.3g)
