Horizon tonight!

Bye bye bellies!!!
Hi JUDDers,

Watch Horizon tonight 9pm it has a doctor trying out a Judd type diet. He loved it and lost a stone in 4 weeks and he wasnt overweight. He also discusses how it helps you live longer.

Yep I watched it too, at the moment I'm doing slim and save but looking for something a bit more long term, this programme was a real eye opener!!
His body fat was 27.? And he got it down to 19.1, brilliant!!
After his 4 day fast he was doing 5/2 ( 5 days normal and 2 days 600cal)
Very impressed, hence me now looking round this board ;)

I saw it too and thought is nip over and see.what you guys are doing! The health benefits ate amazing. So can you eat your calories on anything?

Obviously you should eat a balanced diet, we all should, but I use my calories on anything to be honest, weekends as I have 2 UP days then consist of takeaways and Gu puds, my UP days in the week are Toast and cereal, wholemeal roll crisps lunch, lasagne garlic bread or curry and rice or gammon and new pots etc etc, snacks would be yogs, fruit, and always a choccie treat in the evening.

Ooo your UP diet is pretty similar to the approach i've planned and you've had good consistent results so i'm hoping for the same! went shopping last night and am starting on Thursday so hopefully this'll will be my final 'diet'!!

I saw it too, very interesting, think I'll be giving it a go. Although he did 2/5 (2 days fast 5 not) he did try other "fasting" methods including alternate days. I'm going to try 2/5 for a week and then may switch to JUDD but need to read up on it more, how many cals do you have on Down days, and how many on up?

Hi if you are going to give it a go I would suggest altenate days to begin with and have the weekend off i.e m,w,f as DD (down days) then the rest UP (UP days, normal days) to get the real benefit of alternate day fasting i'e fat loss not muscle or water you need to train your body not to panic on a DD as there will be food very soon, namely tomorrow. If you go to the main Juddd board you should find a post called thinking of starting juddd, there are some links and info on there. The 2 day fasting will have calorie deficit benefits but am unconvinced your body will recognise the feast/famine regime, it needs to recognise the feast/famine in order for it to use the fat stores and not store more because it thinks a famine is on its way.
There is more to Juddd than just weight los, apart from the health benefits there is the juddd magic which basically means that in a lot of cases your body shapes changes far quicker than any weight loss, my weight loss has been slow these last few weeks but I have been Juddding now for about 12 weeks, the change in my body size far outweighs any weight I have lost, the clothes that I was wearing last summer when I was 11 7 (after vlcd) are now too big or at the least very loose and yet I weigh 12 4 , how is that possible, not sure but its fact and after reading up on other forums that is not unusual.
If you google Dr Johnsons Up day Down Day diet, you can go to the website and it will give you exact figure but the general rule is 500/2000, keep your DD s 500 or under and eat normally on your UP day, don't worry too much about the 2000 cal UP day just make sure you eat at least 1800 as UP days are important when you alternate.
This is just my opinion of course you can follow whatever plan you feel comfortable with, I am happy to answer any questons you might have, good luck x

there is a website, if you google juddd diet where you can calculate your calories based on your height and weight but generally the norm seems to be 500 Down, 2000 Up for weight loss then you increase the Down day cals when you want to maintain, at least i think thats the general rule. some people restrict their calories further on a down day, other completely fast then have all their Up day calories the next day, whatever works best for you!

on down days, no more than 500 is a good rule of thumb. On up days I don't count, I just note everything I eat. If I want something I have it but I try to steer away from binges.

The whole idea of up days is freedom, you don't want to be thinking that you are on a diet on an up day =)
