I am struggling to stop eating sweet things

I have always had a sweet tooth, but in the last 8 months I have eaten so much more chocolate, biscuits etc than I use too. I literally can't stop myself. For example, yesterday my daughter and I made some chocolate crispy buns for her to take to nursery. Only they haven't got to nursery! I ate 4 yesterday and when I came down stairs at 6.30am I ate one! I ate another 3 when I got home from work. I feel bad once I have done it but I can't stop it and I don't know what I am going to do about it. I know all the health implications for eating badly. I am struggling to fit in my clothes and I go on holiday in about 6 weeks. Plus we want to try for another baby, but I don't want to do it weighing as much as I do. I just don't know how to get myself out of this cycle.

Any tips? Please xxx

Sugar is an addiction, and one you will struggle to break, but it can be done.

I know it will be hard, but have faith in yourself and you will do it.

Once you start replacing the refined sugar for natural sugars , like fruit for example, it will get easier. You need to have a good talk with yourself, and every time you go to take something naughty, really think about it. Be mindful of what you eat and ask yourself " do I really want this?" then walk away.

There are lots of low syn treatsnyoudould ave if you really must have your choccy fix, like opt for fun size bars.

But really the only way to beat this is to be firm with your self xx

Maybe try a meringue nest (2.5 Syns) crumbled over some fruit, if you want something really sweet. I'm just about to do a strawberry filled meringue nest, with 50g Carte D'or Light Vanilla ice cream (3.5 Syns) for our dessert. Haven't had any other Syns today so that's fine. There are ways round still being able to get your sweet fix. Good luck.

It is said that if you can NOT do something thirteen times, you can break the habit. OK, thirteen is an arbitrary number, but the principle is sound - the more often you can resist something the easier it gets.

You need to remove the temptation as much as possible. If you have it near you, you will eat it. You don't need chocolate or biscuits or any other sweet things in the house. They are just as bad for your family as they are for you, and they will also benefit from not having them around.

Thank you for your reply. I definitely think I am addicted to sugar and I need to break the cycle. So far today I've not eaten anything sweet. I like the idea of just keeping snack size chocolate bars, but obviously I need to stop at 1! Might be better to just stop altogether until I am not addicted on my fix!!

You're welcome, Jo Jo and, if you come up with any ideas of your own, please share with us, as it's sometimes nice to have a little (within Syns) treat.
