JUDDD 2.0 The Return

Have you decided what you are going to do yet? I find I don't really lose unless I moderate my UDs - which is why I'm now trying a kind of JUDD / SW hybrid. Which suits me OK as I love to cook & so don't mind that with SW everything has to be from scratch. Hoping if / when I reach maintenance I can relax it a bit as am finding a bit restrictive, which is leading to a few binges :(

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hiya Emmster, I do enjoy SW and to be honest I was largely tempted to get back on it this week, just due to the fact that it's really my kind of food and I don't generally feel like I am missing out, the downside is that I basically have to save the vast majority of my syns to fund my weekend lifestyle, well so I thought until I realised I had been counting double syns for my vodkas than what I needed to do, so I ended up feeling deprived and the week I had the sts I was really hacked off as I had logged everything even cooked all the meals over the weekend, no takeaways or anything and had loads of SS food and no more than 7 syns per day. Of course now after a week of JUDDD and a gain I felt a bit cheated overall, so I looked back at my stats and could clearly see 5-5 worked best for me. It did take a bit of getting used to and I found the pattern took a while to get into but the losses were pretty good on it and I didn't have the scale bounces I was getting on JUDDD

Hmm weird weekend, Mr Lanark has really hurt his back, he somehow managed to pull something out of place and now he can barely walk, this led to beer drinking after 5pm last night so I didn't cut off until around 8pm instead of 5pm, not a disaster so carrying on today as normal and will just have a later dinner than planned so I can keep to my normal rotation for the week, I dunno there's something different about 5-5 mentality for me, that seems more do able, I knew I was cutting off last night and didn't feel the need to go nuts or eat crap just because cut off was coming and I can often do that on a DD, had a good healthy dinner of chicken and salad with some rice and that was me, I'd only had a banana and a sandwich all day before that too, it must be the whole, I can eat every day thing instead of having to stuff myself because a DD is coming.

Not sure what to do with Mr, he's not a great patient and it's very difficult to get him to take even 2 painkillers never mind go to the doctor, I can see the next few days are going to be trying!

Oh dear I know how hard this is. OH broke his scaphoid 3 years ago and has never done anything about it. It was x rayed weeks too late and he has no grip in his hand at all, is in constant pain and has it strapped up all the time but he refuses to press for something done. He can't drive anymore and struggles with the diy. He's happy to smoke and drink but wont take tablets! I hope he's feeling better soon.

I think it's the not having to fast the next night that makes it easier for me. I can cope with the first night cos I've eaten within 7 hours of going to bed. ( and I'm very late to bed due to ds) However if I fast to the day after the next night is very difficult. I feel deprived by the time I get up after 36 hours fasting and want to eat everything in the fridge. Or I'm not hungry at all so don't eat enough and then am starving on the next DD. This way seems more balanced.

OMG LB what is it with men? I am convinced at times he'd rather moan about it than feel better!

Funny what you say about the 36 hours as I too feel that way, it's like the race is on to get to sleep on the night of a DD or I will feel so hungry I will just be unable to sleep altogether and I'm not the best sleeper anyway, my days are usually quite long, up around 6am and rarely asleep before midnight, so the evenings can be tough, where as like you say I've had dinner so theres no issue, I really was reminded last week after a DD how much I can put away on the morning of an UD if the appetite gets flicked on

LOl it's moaning that keeps them happy. I always say I married Johnny Depp and he turned into Victor Meldrew which says more about me than him :) Yes that next night is horrible. I've been seen face down in the fridge after midnight on many an occasion cos I felt so sick with hunger I couldn't sleep. Getting up so early makes it harder too cos you are automatically burning off more. I'm hungry now but not so bad that I am fridge browsing.

Well, I gained 2.2 last week after my UD/DD's and this week after just one go at 5-5, I have lost 2.4lbs, I am hopeful for a bit of a better loss after the sts and the gain in weeks 4 and 5.

Oddly enough when I look back at my stats the scale bounces were minimal on 5-5 and even if I did bounce at the weekend it was usually fairly minor and off much quicker than UD/DD. By the end of the week I hope to have at least proven to myself that 5-5 suits me better in all ways and not just in the weight loss, I feel brighter as well today, DD's were always such a struggle mentally and emotionally I suppose, I bet I was a right cow on some DD's :D

Sorry to be a pain could you explain your 5-5 .. I think it's you eat at 5pm every day? And fast from 5pm day before? Of course I might have the wrong end of the stick..

Hi Mis-behave, yes rather than fasting for a full day and having 500 cals ( so it's more like 500 cals over 36hours), you either start eating or stop eating at 5pm ( or whatever time suits you) on alternate days, my schedule is like this:

DayBreakfstLunch6pm
ThuFastFastEat
FriEatEatEat
SatEatEatFast
SunFastFastEat
MonEatEatFast
TueFastFastEat
WedEatEatFast

It's really based on Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat basics and I find it much easier than full fasts, I also don't need to faff around with 500 cals for the day as I have either eaten dinner or breakfast/lunch every day, so no messing.

If you look up the page a bit you can see I had much better losses on 5-5 (or 24hr fasting as I have named it) than I did on JUDDD .

Thanks - yes I've been reading for a while and could see u had good or better results this way :)

I know I was a right cow cos OH has wasted no time mentioning it :) I have also lost a surprising amount considering I have only done two so far - currently started 3rd at 2 pm after huge carvery roast dinner cos I met some friends. Even with that my cals came in at 1600 over the UD. It's strange how less fasting seems to work better tho. I'm just glad it does!

No Canadian, but guestimate I prob have about 1000 before 5pm cut off and if it's up after 5 then prob about the same, maybe a bit more

Interesting! As it is I only have to count every second day but I love the idea of not having to count at all! I'm going to stick with JUDDDing on alternate days for now but I'm sure there will come a point when I'll need to shake things up to get the scale moving again. I might have to give 5-5 a try then! :)
