Lady A's Banquet

Nope, I KNEW I forgot to grab something in Asda today, just got too distracted by the cheap stuff in the whoopsie counter! LOL. :)

Morning everyone!

Just had breakfast and I'm waiting for my chickens to arrive so I can wash them and cook slow roasted jerk chicken to take to my Nan's as we've decided to visit her both days this weekend because she's just so lovely!

Breakfast - Banana, wm toast (HexB 1) topped with quark mixed with strawberry jam (2 syns) and a Jaccs caramel coffee made with part HexA 1

Lunch - Omlette made with onions, mixed peppers, herbs, spices & a sprinkle of mozzarella (HexA 2). Served on a bed of shredded lettuce. 1 cadbury's chocolate eclair (2 sys)

Snack at Nani's - Latte with HexA 1 & caramel snack a jacks (5 syns)

Dinner at Nani's - Jerk chicken, lamb & cauliflower curry made SW style by my favourite aunt served with salad.

Dessert - Forgot my pitta that I was gonna have with my dinner at home so had wm toast (HexB 2) with quark & jam (2 syns) when I got home. Wish I hadn't as I feel sick now :(

Syns - 11

I'm a very lucky lady as my Nan lives just five minutes away & I've seen her every weekend since I was born. My weekends wouldn't be the same without seeing her and my favourite aunt, cousins & nephew & niece.

Hey Honey!

Welcome to my banquet! It's funny because I think my diary is boring so it's really exciting when someone pops in to say hi.

Wow! What part of India did you live in? I'd love to visit India as it's just so colourful there. My mum's from Kenya and my dad's from Pakistan so I have to cook to please them so that's why I cook so many curries otherwise if I cooked my food separately then I'd be in the kitchen cooking all night lol!

Thank you for the compliments sweetie it's weird because when I was a size 24 I used to dream of being a size 14 and when I got to a size 14 I wanted to be smaller. So I've got to a size 10 now and I'm a stone heavier than my healthy weight for my height so I'll carry on losing if my body allows it if not then I'll maintain.

Thanks for popping in. I'll have a nosey in yours when my boss goes for his meeting ;) Xx

Mmmmm French toast! *dribble*

I Need to start doing more currys cause I read yours and am all jealous! LOL. Though I only have minced beef today, so it'll end up being a chilli con carne

I know what you mean, when I was on SW in uni and still living with my parents I WAS in the kitchen for ages lol. I was a frustrated cook. Now that it's just my hubby and I, it's a lot easier because he eats whatever I cook and likes healthy food anyway. It is a lot easier just cooking one dish for everyone.

I lived in New Delhi (Vasant Kunj), I loved it in India and you're right it is very colourful especially the night markets where they sell all the saris and bangles and bhindis! I'm Nigerian and my mum took millions of saris back home to make our traditional outfits from and everyone loved them!

Gosh I can't believe you went from a size 24 to 10 and still going strong!!! OMG  well done!!

Hey Shrimpy!

I love cooking my curries SW style as there's no oil to dilute the flavours so everything tastes as it should if you know what I mean. I made aubergine & lamb curry today & it was yum. Mmmm chilli....I haven't had chilli n chips for ages so I'll try n plan that on an extra easy day. Xx

Hey Honey!

I decided when I started SW in January that I wasn't gonna wake up at 5am to go to work, come home at 6pm & spend 3 hrs cooking mine & my families meals (kmt!!) so I kinda inflicted SW style dinners on my family and said like it or lump it lol! Lucky for me the curries were easy to adapt plus I don't cook curries like the SW recipes as they give me heartburn ;p I just use my own recipes but use fry light instead of oil or I'll use a little olive oil if I really need to. Mum cooks my brother's meals sometimes cos he's a skinny boy who loves fat food but even he likes most of what I cook too.

I'd love to live abroad. We had a family holiday in Dubai in 2009 & absolutely loved it so may be in the future. I need to take my mum to Kenya as I've never been & she hasn't seen it for 36 years so it will be really special for both of us. I was thinking of going to Delhi as we speak Punjabi at home and wear salwar kameeze which originates from there so that would be a awesome shopping trip!

Yeah, I sometimes can't believe I used to weigh 17st 4lb at the age of 16! I had an undiagnosed under active thyroid which is why my weight was so high. A combination of medication & diet brought it down but I find I put on easily now so that's why I'm food optimising as I'm dieting without feeling deprived. I remember crying when the clothes at Evans became too big for me lol! My first non-plus size outfit came from top shop which is a shop that I used to dream of shopping in when I was at school but probably couldn't even get my ankle into a pair of their jeans at my heaviest lol!

You've got me thinking of the mother land now....I neeeeeeeed to go buy new sari's, bangles and eat hot jalebi's from the traditional sweet shops in India...mmmm! Xx

I second crafty lucyloo's comment... My curry was nice, but it really wasn't authentic! You have to share some of your awesome recipes... I dribble at your currys but fail miserably when making my own!

Hi Aisha. What would be your number 1 ingredient in making a great curry. Or what 3 ingredients do you never fail to use? Is it possible to make a great authentic curry SW style?
xx

Hi Hazel!

It's difficult to say a number one ingredient as every curry recipe has it's own combination of ingredients and wouldn't taste the same if you missed something out however saying that I don't think my curries would taste the same without my mum's special garam masala powder that she makes at home so mine would be that I suppose.

I cook my curry in stages and each stage releases different flavours into the curry which combine and give it that authentic taste. The curries in the restaurants are not the same as what we cook at home as even before slimming world we never used ghee or cream in our curries so they were always healthier than the restaurants. I find that my curries taste better now that the spices aren't diluted in oil.

Sorry to waffle lol! The answer to your question is yes you can cook an authentic curry SW style just not like they do in the SW magazines...you'll never catch an Indian chef adding an oxo cube to their curry....it should NOT be legal!!! ;)
