Wow! Well done on the running!!!
I was going to the gym for 6 months up to Dec last year on a scheme run here if your BMI is over 45 - you get a personal trainer for 2 sessions a week and open access to local authority classes/health centres. Unfortunately after that 6 months they drop you like a brick and dont want to know which is rather short sighted in my opinion - especially as my BMI was still just over 45 at the end of the 6months! They do follow up measurement sessions but at my last one I found out that i am the only one that bothered to show up - kind of proves my point that 6 months then dropping all support does not work!
Anyway, sorry, didnt mean to rant on your diary! What I was going to say was that I was starting to run on the treadmill - kind of doing C25K my own way and was running for 8 x 1 min (doesnt sound a lot I know!) but that stopped when the support stopped. I did join a private gym but after Christmas I didnt go, not sure why! Been paying the £31 a month and not using it - STUPID!!!!!! Anyway, have now started going back but just swimming at the moment - maybe this weekend I will venture back into the gym!!!!
I realised that having that trainer with me in the gym was more than just training support, it was a mask to hide behind, something to focus on to take my fears and worries and insecurities and set them aside - so that I didnt notice anyone else in the gym apart from the trainer. Without her there I found it very hard to trust myself and have the confidence to be in there without worrying about being watched or feeling embarassed. I know that most people are just concentrating on their own session and not interested in little fat me, but it is hard to rely on that when you feel so lacking in confidence in the first place.
Would love to be able to say that I could run for 20 minutes and then do even more time on the bike after that without collapsing!!!!! Going to use that to push me to (maybe) get into that gym this weekend and see if I can still manage even 10 minutes on that bike!!!!!!
You should be really proud!
